Volguine was a strong proponent of relocation... but I didn?t find any quote or reference in his book to precession, and according to his examples, I am inclined to believe he didn?t ever did it. Mea culpa; you're right. I confused precession with relocation. There has been rather a lot of emphasis... Forum: Traditional (& Ancient) Techniques Topic: Solar Return - Precessed or not? I think Volguine recommended precession. Forum: Traditional (& Ancient) Techniques Topic: Solar Return - Precessed or not? Replies: 63 Views: 34726 Wed Jun 17, 2009 3:13 pm Jump to post
Great discussion. I have been increasingly convinced that ancient (pre-Ptolemaic) astrology was much more integrally bound to concepts of time than we currently make allowance for. The tropical zodiac was designed to represent the year; the zodiac signs were designed to represent the months of the y... Re: James Randi I've been lately doing a study which I should have done a long time ago, and studied groups that have the Asc ruler in certain house. In the name of intellectual honesty I must say that the tropical zodiac gave quite clearly more coherent results than sidereal. Tropical Alcabitius seems so far to b... You can dip a little toe in the water with one of this month's updates: Great transcription and annotations. This article appeared (unattributed) as an appendix in Simmonite's Arcana of Astrology (1890). Now I know who wrote it. Thank you! Please excuse my overlooking your agreement (fine!) and your link to Steven Birchfield's very interesting article! AstroAmerica is usually accurate with its reprints. But on closer examination it looks like you're correct; it is indeed a misprint and the term should in fact be monographick, not men... 'Monographick' with its Greek meaning ( monos - alone, single ) would make sense in our context of focussing on only one orb (radius) of two applying or separating planets at a time. You're right! It seems to make perfect sense. A misprint in the AstroAmerica edition. See also: http://www.astrologi... Just going to ask you about the meaning of 'month' in our topic I read in The Astrological Judgment and Practice of Physick , London 1677, scanned original, pages 3 and 4 your quotation - but beginning: "The Monographick Aspect is, when two Planets behold each other, . . . " Still a later... Forum: Traditional (& Ancient) Techniques Topic: Traditional orb factors Replies: 43 Views: 18778 Fri Mar 13, 2009 7:44 pm Jump to post
is menographic possibly a misprint? Menographic is unknown to my dictionaries. Not a misprint. It occurs in the Astrology Classics Medical Series reprint edition published by AstroAmerica as well as the original facsimile edition published by Kessinger. Meno , month; graphic , written. Incidentally, one of the footnotes in Ben Dykes work (and I have seen this comment made by several other authors too) claims this is a different approach to that taken by William Lilly, suggesting that Lilly used 9? as the total orb of Saturn, rather than its radius. I know that Ben will correct th... Forum: Traditional (& Ancient) Techniques Topic: Traditional orb factors Replies: 43 Views: 18778 Thu Mar 12, 2009 4:36 pm Jump to post
I'd tell you to follow a path with heart, to discern whatever it is you feel called to follow, and to follow it regardless of what a horoscope might seem to say, but that's probably not the kind of feedback you're looking for. As one of my astro-teachers was fond of saying, "life is meant to be... I've posted this link before but I'll do so again since it contains some material that might be of help: http://www.academyofastrology.org/articles/burningquestion.pdf The first footnote to the article states: Some authors, particularly the Arabs, present slightly different definitions of these conc...
