Hand is a big fan of using almutens of houses. So along with being the triplicity ruler (as mentioned) it is the exaltation ruler of Libra. Therefore in day charts Hand tends to use Saturn alongside Venus when delineating Libra. For the record, he does the same with Aries and the Sun by day and the ... Want to add my own thanks Eric, for the research you are doing. Your documented work is very commendable. I realise it is constantly undergoing evolution but do you appreciate links to that (as well as your blog), or is it something you prefer to keep under the radar for now? Thank you! Links are v... You may or may not be aware of my work on the medieval transmission of Perso-Arabic astrology, including the lots, to India. (The Sanskrit word for them is sahama , from the Arabic sahm .) In case it interests you, there is a bit on the lots on pp. 96-99 in this paper (where I had a good deal of he... Thank you, Eric, that's very helpful -- just the sort of information I was looking for! As you take a special interest in the lots, have you perhaps written anything on them yourself? Quite a lot, in fact! Sorry, I couldn't resist. I wrote a very lengthy compilation of every natal/general lot avail... I hope this reply isn't too late! The lots have become a pet topic of mine, and the main source I know of describing lots in houses was written by M??sh??'all??h. A Latin MS edition attributed to Ptolemy can be found here, pp 99r-103v: https://digi.vatlib.it/view/MSS_Pal.lat.1892# . Also, Benjamin D... I've never heard of it, but I agree that "mundane" suggests it's somehow based on ascensional degrees or something related. The longitiude of your birth chart or some examples from a publicly available chart would be necessary to test this hypothesis out. By the way, which software is givi... My focus is on Western astrology (traditional and modern), but from what I've seen and heard nothing definitive on Nadi astrology is available in English. I've seen a few books available, but none of them look thorough or even reliable. To the best of my knowledge, and if somebody who knows more abo... Honestly, for Natal I tend to use the Fourth for the parents in general and use the lots and natural rulers to pick up on the specifics for each parent. The Tenth House/mother connection didn't really come about until the later Arabic era (not a word about it in Abu Ali or Masha'allah). Also, Ibn Ez... Ibn Ezra's method also gives points to the lord of the day and the hour and gives each planet points based on its house location. That seems to be what the program is using. Just to add a little more confusion to this mix, Dorotheus (alone, as far as I can tell) reverses the Saturn-Venus marriage lots by night, a practice which Ben Dykes advocates in his audio lecture on lots. I've actually been working on a table of lots from all sources up to Bonatti so that the mess ... Forum: Traditional (& Ancient) Techniques Topic: Lot of Marriage-Paulus or Valens? Far from a dumb question, it's quite a matter of debate. As far as I know the general medieval practice is to use the birthplace; one dissenter I know was Jean-Baptiste Morin, whose astrological practices were based on his metaphysical and natural philosophy. If I might make a suggestion, a good pla... Forum: Traditional (& Ancient) Techniques Topic: transits, solar return... Replies: 16 Views: 10057 Mon Jan 25, 2016 11:27 pm Jump to post
