I met someone wonderful on valentines day who was just passing through. we get along wonderfully when we are together but he lives in another town. I recently was in his town and we hung out and even though I felt strongly attracted, I kept things platonic as did he. however, when I realized I had to leave early, I let him know that I would miss him and then he kissed me. I feel strong emotions for this person but don't know what to make of it. he is planning on being here in a month for business. I want to know if whatever connection we have might lead to a relationship or just friendship. it is important to me that we remain friends no matter what because he is a kindred spirit but I do have a romantic streak and he makes me feel alive.

I cast a chart for april 2nd 2006 at 11:42 pm pacific, portland oregon, usa. I had 29 degrees scorpio rising.

Hi,

I presume you are using Pacific Daylight Time, which started on the day of your question. Unfortunately, as you point out, this gives a very late ascendant degree. I would not proceed to read a chart with such a late ascendant degree as this. One of the possible interpretations is that this was just a moment in time but that it is too late to do anything about it. The separating significators seem to confirm this.

I get a trine between the rulers of the 1st and 7th houses, Mars & Venus. But, even though this shows contact between the two people involved, the fact that the aspect is separating shows that the contact is in the past rather than in the future.

I?m not exactly Mr. Horary, but the Moon seems to scream for some descriptive attention. The Moon is in intercepted Gemini, in the other person?s house (7th). The Moon has also recently separated from its dispositor ? less than 1 degree. That dispositor, Mercury ? acting as a secondary significator of the other person (am I right here?)? is conjunct an angle and seems to also be screaming for some attention (There?s a lot of screaming going on here). In horary does a conjunction to an angle bring a focus to that planet ? an urgency? I can see the point about the late Ascendant and the separating significators, but the Moon makes the chart more interesting than a quick glance may indicate. The Moon may offer descriptive information of what my fellow Portlander is going through.

How about going ?mod? and looking at the Moon?s applying trine to Neptune? Then it applies to the other person?s significator. Then an opposition to Pluto (drum roll). The Moon seems to be very engaged in the matter.

You know, this horary thing might be kind of fun. I?ll have to check it out.

This is what those of us who are just starting to learn horary would like to know. The Moon is always important. This is what we are told. In this chart the Moon is very involved, in the thick of things - It?s not off to the side as could easily happen.

There are people out there who could help us learn. Asking to be taught is brilliant. :'

I agree that all those things are very significant ? so then it?s just a matter of questioning what kind of influence or signification is being described when the Moon is trine Neptune and about to conjoin Mars. The Moon says a lot about the emotional reaction. The position of Moon and Mars (querent?s significator) in the 7th shows the querent investing herself and her emotional energies in the other person, and it helps to describe the experience she?ll encounter as a result of that. Feel free to pick up the description ? one learns best by doing.

But the first thing I would want to establish is why the ascendant is so late in this chart? Charts with such a late ascendant need to be questioned. Everything changes when the ascendant moves signs so maybe it?s not wise to go too far with a chart when it?s giving signals that the moment of real significance has already passed or that there is more to this than the astrologer can get to the bottom of.

As I stated in my first post, I do see the point of the late Ascendant and the separating significators. What I failed at clearly saying was that the Moon seemed to be a major indicator of what was going on with the querent. When I wrote ?descriptive? regarding the Moon I was referring to the querent, but probably not clearly enough for a reader to understand. To me the Moon seemed to be shifting the focus from the possibility of the two getting together to the true issue: the querent. My impression was that the late Ascendant was also rejecting the question and bringing the focus to the querent?s wishes. I wasn?t sure how much the Moon indicated the general situation or the querent.

I think the point might be that because there is such a late ascendant, it is difficult to have confidence in anything else that may be suggested by the rest of the chart. Generally, if I see such a late ascendant I do not go any further. But in most situations the Moon would be seen as the second significator of the querent so in that sense the Moon would be focussing on the querent rather than the general situation. However, it is not always that easy to separate the two. And even though the Moon is close to conjuncting Mars, the significator of Geminiguy, they are in different houses. The chart I have puts Mars in the 8th and the Moon in the 7th. So, in that case, the Moon has to change houses to be conjunct Mars.

I'm not sure what you mean by the late ascendant rejecting the question and bringing the focus to the querent's wishes. From what I can gather, the wish of Geminiguy is that they would get together. This seems unlikely given the chart but Geminiguy might have some clue as to why this question has given such a late ascendant.

I wasn?t aware of this idea. Is this a common horary rule? I thought my battle was with those ?silly? sign boundaries.

Along the lines of the Asc. saying "Inappropriate question. There?s a larger issue here. Go beyond this person and consider what you are looking for, and why". I?m not sure Ascendants can say that, or whether they speak at all, but to my mind it makes sense.

Just so you understand Kirk, I wasn?t trying to close your argument down, I was trying to open it up. I?m all for looking beyond the considerations, seeing them as part of the clues we are offered to form a judgement, and establishing what they are really about. But I?m also with Sue in that the late ascendant is the one consideration I am always wary of. The considerations remind us that we have a choice between proceeding or not, and that if we do, we need to bear this element in mind. If this was a client chart I would probably work harder at trying to understand why it?s there, but since it?s not my chart I?m going to leave that to the astrologer involved.

Although I get very few charts with late ascendants, when I have had them, that consideration has always been very telling. Beyond this ?missing the moment? aspect, the charts I have had with late ascendants are where the querent asked whether they should do something they have already done (or in some way they are asking about something that is too late to be rectified ? without telling me this); where they are consulting with two astrologers simultaneously, where they know a lot more than they are revealing, so that I?m presented with a false scenario of events; where there is the sense that this matter has already been dealt with and closed, and then there is that traditional warning of trickery ? and there is a least one question I know of where I declined to judge on this basis and then discovered that the querent was a reporter just trying to prove the effectiveness (or not) of astrology.

Not everyone rates the considerations, and I don?t rate them all. But this one is part of my symbolic ritual and has proved its merit to me. Whether it should deserve the same significance for someone who doesn?t hold it in the same regard is up for question. So it may mean nothing at all here, but if it was a question that I was asked I know that it would, and I can only work to my own conventions, not those of others.

Anyway, good luck to you Geminiguy ? I think I should just be a lurker in this thread :)

PS ? yes Mars is on the 8th house cusp, the Moon will move to conjoin Mars there. Crossing houses wouldn?t prevent the manifestation of the aspect though so you don?t have to worry about that Kirk.
