Venus and Mars in own dignities

1
Hello everyone!

I'm new to the forum, and this is my first question!

I've tried to judge a chart where Venus in Libra is applying to Mars in Aries in an opposition. Since the question concernes if a reunion between two former lovers is taking place, I was thinking that the chart suggest a yes, although the planets isn't in mutual reception, but in their own debilities... I was thinking in terms of a passionate but perhaps not longlasting reunion since it's Mars and Venus involved in an oppossiotion. Maybe I neglect the receptions to much in this interpretation? Does anyone have expiriences with a similar chart?

Hi welcome to the forum:

I think you mean the planets Venus and Mars are in each other's debilities; the positions you cite indicate they are in their domiciles or signs that they rule.

Oppositions usually mean that the thing inquired about will occur, but that the querent might wish it hadn't. Lilly writes on page 125 of Christian Astrology:

"Sometimes it happens that a matter is brought to pass when the significators have applied by opposition, but it has been, when there has been mutual reception by House (i.e. sign - tc) and out of friendly houses, and the Moon separating from the significator of the thing demanded, and applying presently to the Lord of the Ascendant; I have rarely seen anything brought to perfection by this way of opposition; but the Querent had been better the thing had been undone, for if the Question was concerning Marriage, the parties seldom agreed, but were ever wrangling and jangling, each party repining at his evil choice, laying the blame upon their covetous parents as having no mind in it themselves; ..."
On page 106 he states:
" ... the Opposition is an aspect of perfect hatred; which is to be understood thus; A Question is propounded, Whether two persons at variance may be reconciled? ... if I find the main significators in opposition, it's then in nature impossible to expect a peace between them ..."
Hope this helps.

Hello Tom!

Thanks a lot for your help!

This is exactly what I meant, I misphrased myself (perhaps cause I'm swedish ). The first thing that comes to mind is of course that the planets shoud hate each other, since they are in eachothers debilities and applying in an opposition.

But the thing I'm wondering about is wheter this could be some sort of love/hate-relationship, some sort of passion or if the persons involved just simply hate and loathe eachother, which is what Lilly suggests...

(I know for certain that at least the querent is very passionate about her former lover and really wants him back)

Hi Scarlet,

I do that all the time and I'm an American. Don't worry about it.
But the thing I'm wondering about is whether this could be some sort of love/hate-relationship, some sort of passion or if the persons involved just simply hate and loathe eachother, which is what Lilly suggests...
If I had to bet, I'd say yes, this is a problematic relationship. There are some men and women who possess the "Victim's Instinct" and routinely fall madly, passionately in love with someone who is plainly no good for them. Trying to persuade them this is so is a near impossible task.

However your concern brings something to mind. Do not think you have to tease every little nuance out of the chart. Ask! Ask her if she's had relationships where there are difficulty after difficulty arises and she still goes back for more. If this sort of thing seems out of character, and keeping in mind there is always a first time, then look further into the chart than just the main significators. Look at the Moon, and even the part of marriage. Sometimes the 4th house (end of the matter) is useful.

If she says, "Oh yes this sort of thing happens all the time," well that is revealing, too.

Best of luck,

Tom

Thank you very much, Tom! I will take all your recommendations into consideration. It actually didn't cross my mind before that I could use the part of Marriage in horaries... so now I pick up my calculator!

I've been pondering this chart for many months, actually. The querent's question was "Will X come back to me?" And since there was an applying aspect my first judgement was "Yes, he will, but not without severe problems" (another interesting thing in the chart is that when the aspect is perfected, Mars becomes stationary and turn retrograde, while Venus enter Scorpio, this suggests that SHE will change her mind, wihle he maybe gets more interested, since Venus enters Mars' sign)

Perhaps the persons involved, being in their own signs and houses (The querent as Mars in Aries Ascendant, and Mr X as Venus in the 7:th house Libra) makes me think that the event may take place, but they are mostly interested in themselves and may rejoin for ego-boosting reasons rather than "true love"...

I've roughly calculated that the event the horary describes should take place sometime in august this year, it will be interesting to see the outcome, and I will of course post it here.

Anyway, thanks a lot again, Tom, your comments have been very helpful!
