James, what you are doing (or rather what Solar Fire is doing) is a modern concoction Solar Fire is calling "Directed Profection." This isn't the classical or traditional way of doing projections because the degrees of the planets and signs are changed from natal degrees and signs. That particular option isn't in my older version of Solar Fire which indicates how new this calculation is. It's something Solar Fire programmers added to the recent version of the software.

As Abu Ma'shar uses profections and as covered in Dr. Lee Lehman's Classical Astrology for Modern Living (1996), she clearly states: "Please note that I do not recompute a chart for this new ascendant, but read the radix cusps exactly the same way I might use derived houses in horary." (p. 263)

So (as with solar arc progressions) you are bringing in modern calculation concepts. Nothing wrong with that as long as they aren't confused with the older traditional methods, which are more simple in application and what this thread was meant to address. Although Solar Fire includes sidereal and western classical options, it's basically a modern Tropical program.

So to understand each other, we are talking about entirely different "profection" concepts. That is where the confusion lies. The original meaning of profection was advancement, advancing the ascendant through the natal houses for each year of life, keeping natal planets intact.

I used straight Dasa-Bhukti. I have to wait and see if my conclusion is right
Map, it's very easy for me to have a scrambled memory, but without doing a Skyscript search, are you using Dasas measured in the tropical zodiac? If so, what Dasa and Bhukti covers this period in Catherine's life? Thanks!

The Krishanmurti sidereal ayanamsa gives us Vimshottari Mars-Jupiter for this period.

Thank you, Map.

Stefan, do you or anyone else want to try for this period in Catherine's life before I post anything else? I'm seeing this as a test of techniques rather than skills of astrologers since I don't see working with blind charts as a skill. Unless we're psychic we have to rely on the techniques we use, and it comes down as to what we judge as significant planets for an event or time period. And among those there are many choices.

We're seeing the inevitable mixing of tropical and sidereal which is happening even in India now. Map is using the tropical zodiac with Indian dasas, and James is using tropical techniques in the sidereal zodiac. AJ is purely Indian as far as I know. Stefan hasn't posted on this question yet.

I do think that it's only in the astrologer/client setting that (in general) real intuition operates because we're working with another person's consciousness that we can attune to. Blind charts are truly "cold" in that we only have our own minds and perception to judge what is happening.

I have not time to post now. Buisy working, and son living abroad coming home visiting tomorrow.
But very curious about result. Subperiod of jupiter which is very strong in several subcharts. No time to study further.

Stefan, if you could possibly find time to add a few words, I'd be interested in hearing more about Jupiter and the sub charts you mentioned. I'll wait a few more days, maybe until next Tuesday before posting more about Catherine's chart.

Family visits, yes. They leave little or no time or energy for anything else

Note: Your posts on the lunar mansions have been very interesting, and have prompted me to review some material in the books I have. I wish I could remember everything I've studied and applied to readings, but I can't. Natal Moon dead in the water. I'm a good scholar, good at analysis (Mercury) but with poor memory and predictive ability.

well therese, i am talking about the same as you and more.. it is the more part that makes it different... to characterize it as entirely different is not an accurate description, but an unfriendly one as i see it.. i am going to write a post to try to describe some of the different approaches and how it parallels my life in music.. stay tuned.. cheers james

Hi Map: Clearly you are using the tropical zodiac but which dasha system? I am most familiar with seeing moola dasha used with the D-60.
Just curious, cheers.

I am a bit confused about the way of treat this chart with no context at all as to lifepattern and how chart have responded to former astrological techniques et.c.

Seeing the Dasha periods.

Mars major period.
Troublesome in general. Mars in rahu ketu axis in 12th house as ascendant lord.
in exchange yoga (parivartana yoga) 6th/12th axis. This seems that mars period in general can have some challenges implied. Uncertainty, enemies, sickness et.c as AJ did suggest ? Could also give some spiritual growth as asc lord with ketu in whole sign 12th.

The immediate subperiod of Jupiter which runs the present time is Jupiter however. A very strong Jupiter exalted in the whole sign 9th house. Vargottama, also exalted in the navamsha. Looking further into the vargas we find jupiter in exaltation or in own sign in several important subcharts.
Jupiter is clearly the most powerful planet in the chart imo. The results should be positive in some way. There should be some growth, even in adverse conditions. Growth in consciousness, inner growth, material growth et.c.
Jupiter is 5th lord placed in 9th which is good.
Gaja cesari yoga with moon is good.

But Jupiter is ruler of 2nd house and is a maraka, which could give adverse health results if the time is in for that in terms of the constitutional strength of the chart ? This could be the case ? Sun (vitality) is close conjunction by saturn which is not good for constitutional strength, But ascendant is vargottama which is the contrary.

If the chart is radically true tertiary progressed jupiter is conjunct the MC.
Tertiary rahu on sun 10th lord.
Varshaphala asc in 7th.
yearlord venus placed in raja yoga in 10th house in varshaphala.
11th house Muntha with sun, don't seems that bad.

So what to say.
Relationship ? ( the radix chart is showing major relationship problems in general)
Jupiter as 5th lord bhukti could give romance and infatuation.

So basically my mind have runned in many directions.
jupiter in 9th -gurus or teachers, travels,
Grandchildren ?
Career improvement, maybe with some foreign slant ?

Secondary progressed sun opposite neptune - confusing. Weakening,

I find it hard to pick a specific event from all this so I will not do it.
There could be many developing themes for her in this year.
