by james_m stefan, here is the data from aj's sjs prog.. i believe the program can have different settings and aj says this as well.. quote from aj - "Also note that different setting within a program will change the numbers depending on the user a little bit and that each program calculates things a little differently as some of the calc of shadbala are pretty involved and even a bit obscure." what is interesting to me and this goes into planetary strength - not just directional strength - my understanding as simple as it sounds is that planets close to angles have greater strength on many levels.. the data seems to support this too, but maybe it doesn't always.. B K S Iyengar 26 by map Planet's main exaltation degree, Exaltation sign, Favorite sign, own sign, bosom friend sign, friend sign, neutral sign. imo, this is the order that is more than sufficient. Jupiter stands out among all in Iyengar's chart. Next comes Mars. Quote Mon Jan 04, 2021 5:23 am
by james_m map, thanks for commenting.. i want to challenge you here... what do you think is more significant? planets in angles or planets in exaltation, but not in angles?? obviously it all matters but if you had to put emphasis on one over the other, which would it be? thanks - james Quote Tue Jan 05, 2021 1:14 am
B K S Iyengar 28 by map Hi james, imo, planets in angles or planets in exaltation, but not in angles must be considered from the perspective of these planets occupying or owning dusthanas / houses other than dusthanas. Good planets in exaltation but in dusthanas are not welcome and similarly evil planets in angles. Quote Tue Jan 05, 2021 9:57 am
by james_m hi map, thanks.... so in tropical mars and jupiter are exalted, but with mars on an angle and jupiter in the 9th...so you would read mars stronger based on this if i am reading you correctly? what is interesting is that in indian astrology the 9th house is considered differently and as especially positive, unlike the general ideas gotten via hellenistic where it gets lumped in with the dusthanas... i still see the moon as powerful for the simple reason it is on an angle... perhaps the only way we truly understand a persons chart is by studying up on the person, or reading autobios or bios on them and examining their life more closely.. without that there is a lot of hypothesizing on charts, but it isn't always grounded in real knowledge of the person... cheers james Quote Tue Jan 05, 2021 6:57 pm
by Martin Gansten Just as a side note, the 9th house/place is generally considered quite positive in both Greek- and Arabic-language astrological sources as well. It is cadent (apoklima in Greek; Indian tradition took over both the word and the concept) like the 3rd, 6th and 12th, but is typically seen as the most fortunate of the cadent houses. https://astrology.martingansten.com/ Quote Tue Jan 05, 2021 7:58 pm
