Which houses for a grant application? 1 by Leo-Poet Hello folks: I was just reviewing the Skyscript section on "electing for financial gain." The guidelines are geared towards borrowing money. Do the same rules apply if you want the money as a gift? I need to write some grant applications for my employer. Would I still look at the 1st, 2nd, 7th and 8th houses? Or would the 10th house be more appropriate for the grantor, since it is a state agency that we would be applying to for the money? Also, I figure that I would still need to fortify the second house, but what about the 3rd house? The grant application is a written document, and it will be judged in part on how appealing and professional the written presentation of our request is. If I have to choose between which house to give the bigger boost to (which I probably will), should I go for the 2nd or the 3rd? I am particularly concerned because the time frame that I have been given to write this grant is roughly the next two weeks. I don't have a whole lot of great choices for dates/times to submit it, so I really want to make sure that I am focusing on the correct houses. Thanks for any suggestions. 2 by Tom Would I still look at the 1st, 2nd, 7th and 8th houses? Or would the 10th house be more appropriate for the grantor, I would think the 11th, gifts from the "king," or employer in your case. You would like to see lord 11 coming to you. The 10th would imply the employer himself is coming to you. That might be a pleasant way to spend an afternoon, but it's his money you want. 3 by Leo-Poet Thanks for your reply. I think maybe my message was not clear. My employer is the applicant for the grant, not me personally. I am writing the grant, on my employer's behalf, requesting funding from a state agency. My employer is a nonprofit corporation who is seeking funds from the state for one their educational programs. I employed to perform various functions, which include writing grant applications. In the electional chart, I am taking the first house to be the grant applicant, my employer-the-nonprofit-corporation. Would I still be looking for favorable aspects to the 10th/11th house, signifying the "King" (state agency) and "King's money" (state grant aid)? Quote Fri Aug 04, 2006 7:31 pm
by Tom I'm sorry. I read this too quickly. As I understand this, you are the agent for your employer in that you are filling out the papers etc, but it is your employer who will receive the grant so we want the significator of the State's resources t to come to the significator of the employer, the 10th house. The corporation is the applicant. The grantor is the State, the government, but the 10th is already taken. My inclination is that the 10th is the turned 1st (the applicant), and therefore the 10th of the 10th, or the 7th is the State, and the 8th is the State's resources. We would want to see ther ruler of the radical 8th coming to the ruler of the radical 10th. At least this is the way I see it. Pehaps someone else might see it differently. 5 by Leo-Poet Yes, you are correct: my employer is the applicant. I am filling out the papers and writing the proposal. I had thought about casting the chart the way you describe it--using the 10th as the turned first. My question about doing that is: I am representing my employer's interest by writing the grant--I for stand for my employer. Consequently, do I need to turn the chart? Can't I just use the first for the employer and for me, since we are operating "as one" in this instance? Thanks again for your input! Quote Fri Aug 04, 2006 10:28 pm
by Tom My question about doing that is: I am representing my employer's interest by writing the grant--I for stand for my employer. I've been looking at this like a horary. If the employer came to you and asked you to elect the time, then we'd consider the first house, not because you are working for him, but because he is the "querent" so to speak. As I understand this situation, you are trying to elect the best time to apply for the grant. You are both the employee and the astrologer. You're doing this on your own for the employer and therefore I still think you need to turn the chart. If there is someone better versed in elections than I am (it won't take much), please come forward and let us know how you would handle it. Tom Quote Sat Aug 05, 2006 2:02 am
by Sue I'm no more versed in electional than Tom. However, I would take the standard approach of the procurement of money, regardless of whether it is a grant or a loan. I would choose to give the first house to the corporation, the seventh to the government agency and then second house to the finances of the corporation and then eighth as finances of the government agency. I would not individualise the employer/employee situation as it is the organisation hoping for the money. I would also fortify the second house rather than the third although it may be wise to make sure there is no significant detriment to the third. So I would be looking for such things as favourable aspects and reception between the first and seventh houses, perhaps the ruler of the first receiving the eighth and a stronger second house than eighth house. The Moon is very important in electional astrology so I would make sure that this is one of my focuses. Make sure that it is not a void of course Moon or that the Moon is besieged, for example. Make sure the Moon is moving towards favourable aspects. It would be very rare to find a perfect chart so you have to prioritise. My priorities would be the Moon and making sure the second house ruler is strong. Quote Sat Aug 05, 2006 9:03 am
by Tom I think Sue's suggestions, and the reasoning behind them are excellent and they simplify things perfectly. Thank you, Sue. Tom Quote Sat Aug 05, 2006 11:41 am
by Leo-Poet Thanks to both Sue and Tom. I think I have a pretty good idea of how to proceed now. Quote Sat Aug 05, 2006 3:19 pm
by Leo-Poet Greetings? Here?s the election I came up with, which is cast for the time when I will put the grant application in the mail. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me whether nor I am on the right track. The delineation ended up being rather long, so if you don?t feel like wading through it I understand. Traditional Astrology 4+ Leo rises. 28+ Leo is on the 2nd house cusp. Thus, the Sun rules both the 1st and 2nd houses representing the corporation and its income. The Sun is domiciled in Leo and high in essential dignity. The Sun also tenants the first house, where it is accidentally exalted. Venus conjuncts the AC?very nice, I would assume, for financial gain. 4+ Aquarius is on descendent. 28+ Aqu is on the 8th house cusp. Thus, Saturn rules both the 7th and 8th houses representing the state agency and the grant money. Saturn is in Leo in the first house, which shows the grant coming to the corporation. Sun-ruler-of-the-1st/2nd receives Saturn- ruler-of-the-7th/8th. Saturn is at 16+ Leo and the Sun is at 24+ Leo, so their conjunction is separating. However, the Moon is at 10+ Gemini. She will sextile Saturn first and then sextile the Sun, thus carrying light from the 7th/8th house ruler to the 1st/2nd house ruler. Mercury ruling the 3rd has dignity by term. The Part of Fortune is in Libra ruling the third, with its dispositor conjunct the AC. I would think these placements are very good for a written grant request. Modern Astrology Uranus rules both the 7th and the 8th, and is in mutual reception with Neptune tenanting the 7th. The Sun-ruler-of-1st/2nd makes no aspect to Uranus and is separating from an opposition to Neptune. However, the Moon will first trine Neptune-in-MR-with-Uranus and then sextile Saturn, thus carrying the light of Uranus ruling 7th/8th to the Sun. Some Concerns Is it a bad idea to have Saturn as one of the significators? This grant, while important, is not a lot of money?so having Saturn signify the money may be appropriate to represent the small amount that the state agency will award us. I don?t have a lot of choice, because during the time frame when I can apply for this grant, the Sun and a lot of other planets are in Leo. If I want to pick a strong planet to represent the 1st/2nd, I need to choose a Leo planet, which sticks me with Saturn ruling the 7th/8th. Should I worry that the Moon is peregrine in this chart? Aspectually, it is pretty good. Also, the Moon is in Gemini in the 11th house. This grant is for a public lecture series?in terms of sign and house placement, I feel like I couldn?t get a better, more representative moon. Is the Sun considered to be beseiged in this chart? It is separating from a conjunction with Saturn. Mars is in Virgo, which means the Sun is between Saturn and Mars, although they are not all three in the same sign. Lastly, what about all those planets in Leo? They are not combust but they are under the Sun?s rays. Worrisome? I hope that the link below will lead you to the an image of the chart. I have never tried to post a live link before. http://www.astro.com/cgi/showgif.cgi?la ... es=100&va= Thanks to all. Quote Tue Aug 08, 2006 11:16 pm
