There is a larger issue here that is causing problems for me concerning lost item horaries. Why should traditional house significations give way to the catchall of the 2nd house as ?moveable possessions?? The 2nd house is used as first choice for any item that isn?t land or physically attached to the land (4th). Telephones belong to the 3rd house*, but a lost cell [mobile] phone is called a moveable possession and given to the 2nd house. A book (9th)* becomes a moveable possession once it?s lost. Fur coats and ruby rings fit in with 5th house ?Clothes, fineries and rich, luxurious things? [http://www.skyscript.co.uk/temples/h5.html], but are placed in the more humble category of ?moveable possessions? when they are lost. And, more appropriate to the thread, a lost 3rd house fax* containing needed information gets shuffled over to the 2nd just because I say it?s a possession. It doesn?t make sense to me! Worse, it contradicts the traditional house significations that we are often told to respect and not tamper with.

I know that using the 2nd house is a common procedure for lost item horaries: "All moveable possessions, from calculators to cars, are signified by the 2nd house and its ruler" [http://www.skyscript.co.uk/wit.html], but could that be part of the reason for the numerous comments I?ve seen that such horaries are among the most difficult to get right? ... that's what seemed indicated and why I mentioned "she'd left it behind her."

Also knowing you were her parent as well as the other party to this question, the 5th (child) from 7th (other) = 11th, also suggested the gift of her favourites may be found in that direction, somewhere under her mother's roof (10th), amidst mother's possessions (11th) so to speak.

Sounds like the Moon (memory) was working just fine!!!

Don't know. Maybe it has something to do with an 'inflated sense' of what we possess or feel we would like to own/possess - Jupiter (the 'inflator') is co-significator for 2nd afterall.
"What's mine is yours, what's yours is mine" does sometimes get repossessed by "what's mine is mine, what's yours is mine also" ... leaving the other areas (houses) out in the cold. Personally I try not to use 2nd as a catchall, I think there's plenty of rooms to share. But sometimes it is an easy ... or maybe I should say beneficial (Jupiter) option.

As you all know, I'm not an expert but the way I think is that the 3rd house will show the state of their communication but I'm not convinced that it can point out where the lost piece of paper is located.
