Orbital plane of Venus is a bit obliqued to the orbital plane of Earth ... and Venus is part of orbit above the Earth/Ecliptic plane (plus latitude; max cca +8°51'); and part of orbit below the Earth plane (minus latitude; min cca -8°49')

"Ecliptic intersection" = happens when Venus crosses the ecliptic plane (2x times during one orbit) and those are so called Venus Nodes = ecliptic latitude is exactly 0°00' at that moment.

When observing transits of Venus across the Sun - you need all 3 Sun-Venus-Earth to be aligned 1) horizontaly (inferrior conjunction); 2) but also verticaly (ideal is when Venus latitude is close to the 0°)

If the latitude is too high or too low, Venus will "miss" the Sun circle.

So ideal condition for observing Venus transit is, when inferior conjunction happens together with Venus nodes

I recently added more options of annual profections divisions:

Monthly: Year/12; and Year/13 (so those 28 days are already implemented )
Daily: 1day; 2 1/3days; 2 1/2 days

One user asked me, if I could reverse the motion ... and I implemented this 2nd option

- 1) Counter-Clockwise: From ASC to Profected house
- 2) Clockwise (Reversed): From Profected house to ASC

The most common literature we read about the Profections is presented as a Whole sign concept which is 30 degrees for each year of life.

Giuseppe Bezza says that 'It is convenient to operate with the tables of Right Ascension (RA) and Oblique Ascension (OA). This assertion implies that, for the places of the nativity which do not culminate and which do not rise, it will be necessary to operate with both, that is to say with the Mixed Ascension (MA)."
Let's try to explain this with his example of a nativity .

In the 1st year of life, the sign of the year is at the beginning the very degree which rises, in our example, 2°24’ Taurus. When the native is 1 year old and enters his 2nd year of life, the mobile primum will have moved and the rising degree will have risen towards its culmination by an amount equal to its two temporal hours (2 H). The measure of this quantity is given by the amplitude of a house, because each house consists of 2 H."
And 2 Hours of time does not equate to 30 degrees on the Ecliptic when measured from the Equator with the RA.

Martin Gansten has a simple way to look at it in the Placidus system when discussing Primary Directions.
And maybe Martin can comment on this.
"The technique is based on the rotation of the earth around its axis (the primary motion), bringing planets and other chart points to new positions in the sky."

1. Note the degree on the ascendant at a given time.
2. Animate the chart to find at what time the same degree reaches the MC.
3. Divide that time by 3 and add it to the original time, then animate the chart to the resulting time, and you will find the degree in question on the 12th Placidus cusp.
4. Add the same amount of time again, animate the chart, and you will find the same degree on the 11th cusp.

Same calculations would apply to the planets. This seems a more accurate way to use the Profections, the idea being to know the positions of the natal and profected planets and Angles at the beginning of each year.

Well, since you ask: Placidus houses are based on the same principles as Ptolemaic (primary) directions, but Ptolemy himself didn't apply those principles to houses, nor to profections. Even Placidus didn't use these 'Placidean' profections, but rather scrapped profections altogether and replaced them with what he called secondary directions and progressions. If memory serves, though, ibn Ezra did use (or at least mention) profections based on primary motion.

As an aside, I don't find Bezza's analysis of that chart and the event very convincing (though perhaps this is the wrong forum to discuss it in detail). From my sidereal perspective, Mercury (ruler of the 6th in the 8th, peregrine in a sign of Mars and applying next to the body of Saturn) rules the year while Venus is the divisor of the ascendant. In the revolution, Venus is in its fall in the sign of the year, with the moon translating the light of Mars to it by square. On the day of the assault, Mercury and Mars were partilely conjunct in that same sign, with Venus having just re-entered it.

Bezza cites Ptolemy here...

"In the first place, we must give the rulership of the times in each prorogation to the star that is actually upon the prorogatory degree or in
aspect to it, or, if this condition does not exist, to the one that most nearly
precedes, until we come to another which is in aspect with the next
following degree in the order of the signs; then to this as far as the next
following, and so on; and the planets which govern the terms are to be
given a part of the rulership. And again we must assign years to the
degrees of the intervals: in the prorogation from the horoscope a number
equal to the times of ascension in the latitude concerned; in the
prorogation from mid- heaven, as many as the times of the culminations ;

Do we understand here prorogations as Profections?

And he goes on to say...
"Commenting on the last chapter of the last Book of Ptolemy, Jerome Cardan points out that, in seeking to elucidate future times, it is necessary to take as a basis an orderly and uniform unfolding; he also says that Ptolemy names three.

Valens in Chapter 4 says...
"The same transmissions are indicated every 12 years. They will, however, not have the same causative influence, but different." He is talking about the Profections here and he describes at length the 'distribution' of planets reaching places occupied by planets.
Problem arises when he is talking about the time of the year when the profections will be active, for he gives not one but several timing methods.
Bezza gives an orb of +/- 1 month which represents a 3 month period.

Danièle Jay in an article 'Ascendant et MC profectés' uses the chart of Louis XIV (5 septembre 1638, St-Germain-en-Laye 78, 11h 09mn (11h 1mn de U.T.) with Scorpio rising 14d 43
She describes the crowning of Louis XIV when the Profected ASC March 10th, 1661 near Fortuna was partile sextile to his natal Moon at 5°37’ Leo and the Profected MC at 6 Can 52 was in trine to the SR Saturn (7°55’Scorpio) while being directed to Mercury ruler of MC and conjunct Regulus.

A question remains for me here. When you have a planet in the middle of a sign and when the Profected year begins, do you start to count
1) from 0 degree of the sign
2) from 15 degree where the planet is
3) from the beginning of the House it is in which may be + or - 0 degree of that sign.
