To be or not to be an astrologer 1 by Ouranos In 2014, Charles Ridoux from France published an article, an hommage to Alfred Witte and Friedrich Sieggrun. https://nanopdf.com/download/hommage-al ... ieggrn_pdf Google and free translation ------------------------------------------ Before we start... 'Since we consider the Trans-neptunians not as 'planets', but as 'energetic or active centers', we can call them 'factors' entering in full right into the constitution of planetary pairs of the school of Hamburg, as well as the planets themselves. For convenience, we can use the term "planets" to designate both the "classical" planets and the Trans-neptunian factors.' In short, we do not have a scientific evidence but we know that these moving points in the sky are linked to human behavior. Just like the debate on Pluto (planet or not?). Anybody experiencing a transit of Pluto in his life can testify that it does exist! A dwarf planet they say. Imagine Snow White carrying 7 Plutos in her bucket. That's enough to fall asleep. ------------------------------------------ INDIVIDUAL In his article, Charles Ridoux relied on an exciting and very well documented study of Denis Koutaliov, Russian astrologer practicing and teaching the methods of the school of Hamburg, who presents on his site in Russian (astrologic.ru) an article dated April 19, 2003 (to Serguei Possad) and entitled 'Charts of astrologers from the positions of the school of Hamburg'. The article by Charles Ridoux focuses mainly on an analysis of the charts of Witte and Sieggrun (natal and composite) but it contains some very interesting information on what it is like to be or not to be an astrologer. 'Denis Koutaliov first addresses the theoretical aspect with the following question: what are, in a chart, planets showing up an interest in astrology. And he brings an answer that takes support on the approach specific to Uranian astrology, which consists on concentrating the analysis on the planetary combination (or factorial) energies resulting from symmetrical figures (axes or midpoints). First of all, astrology is considered to be linked primarily with Uranus. We still need to have additional elements to be able to predict a probable orientation towards astrology. What are the factors that must be taken into account in a combination with Uranus?' Denis Koutaliov first defines astrology as a mean to provide others with self-knowledge likely to broaden their horizons and allow greater freedom of action. He concludes by considering that all the characteristics that will define the skills for astrology are united in the combination between Uranus and Apollon. We can therefore consider the Uranus/Apollon (UR/AP) axis as "the axis of astrology". So, if we want to define a personal commitment in the field of astrology, the mid-point Uranus/Apollon is strongly aspected. Most often, in charts of astrologers, the axis Uranus/Apollon is connected to a personal point or to an axis between two personal points. For example, a link with the Sun/Mars axis will indicate a personal activity, a vocation; the link seems frequent, among astrologers with Jupiter (success index) or with Kronos (indicator of high achievements). Denis Koutaliov presents a brief picture of the combination of various factors with the Uranus/Apollo axis and their meaning: UR/AP=MC: to be an astrologer UR/AP=SU: person giving proof that he is an astrologer UR/AP=ME: astrological thought UR/AP=MA: astrological activity UR/AP=JU: happy excitement due to success in astrology UR/AP=SA: predictive astrology UR/AP=HA: detestation of astrology UR/AP=VU: the greatest successes in astrology These midpoints can be combined differently. For example: SA/AP=UR: astrological method or system UR/HA=AP: fairground astrology, boulevard astrology, pseudo-science HA/AP=UR: research in the field of astrology UR/NE=AP: astrology as an occult science UR/CU=AP: astrological organization or society UR/KR=AP: government regulations relating to astrology However, these indicators anchored on the Uranus/Apollo axis evoke the astrology from an external view. They may, in fact, relate to other spheres of non-ordinary knowledge or to a innovative science. For Denis Koutaliov, what characterizes astrology is its ability to project onto the future, according to the metaphysical principle of a correspondence between "what is above" and "what is below". Also, in Uranian astrology, the following two signifiers must be taken into account: Kronos (what is above) and Admetos (what is below); in addition, the concepts of 'metaphysics' and 'future' are associated, in the Hamburg school, with Neptune. In this way, the specificity of astrology appears in the combination between Neptune, Kronos and Admetos. We can then translate, in terms of Uranian astrology, the idea that astrology consists in the study of cosmic planetary cycles. The formula Neptune/Kronos=Admetos (NE/KR=AD) evokes therefore both the cosmos, the planets as "solid bodies" in the sky, the movement circular, the specialization in the knowledge of celestial movements. In conclusion, the astrological qualification in a chart can be read from two planetary combinations: on one hand, from an internal, fundamental point of view, the "cosmic formula" (NE/KR=AD); on the other hand, from an external point of view, the axis of astrology (UR/AP); the mid-points on the astrology axis indicate the native's interests and achievements in astrology, while the mid-points in relation to the formula of astrology will testify to the nature of the aspirations of the being towards the knowledge of the cosmos and the planetary cycles. Such, then, are the two figures which should be analyzed in order to define the relations of an individual to astrology. Denis Koutaliov, after laying these theoretical foundations, studies a series of cases, starting with the charts of some outstanding figures in the astrological world of the 20th century (Dane Rudhyar, Elisabeth Ebertin, Pavel Globa) and going back to older personalities (Johannes Kepler, Jerome Cardan, Al-Biruni, Proclus). --------------------------------- HISTORICAL But our study should not stop with the analysis of the two key formulas of astrology in the charts of the founders of the Hamburg school. Denis Koutaliov, taking an interest to a brief history of various astrological associations, provides us with a new starting point for a broader reflection, by pointing out that the last conjunction of Cupido with the midpoint Neptune/Kronos=Admetos took place in the years 1891-1893. Note: Cupido represents family, groups, organizations. It is curious to observe that the midpoint figure occurs at the very moment of the last Neptune-Pluto conjunction of 1891-1892. Period which was that of a first and powerful current of popularity of astrology towards the end of the XIXth century: expansion in Europe and America of astrological notions through English theosophists; publication of the first astrology journal of our time (Modern Astrology by Alan Leo); appearance in Germany, Austria, France, the first high-level professional astrologers. It is during these three years 1891-1893 that were born future active members of the school of Hamburg (Ludwig Rudolph, Wilhelm Bekmann, Hans Niggemann, Thomas Ring and others). And two years later, in 1895, the duo Neptune/Kronos=Cupid/Admetos was joined by the other formula constituent of astrology, Uranus/Apollon; it was precisely that year that Dane Rudhyar was born, the founder of humanistic astrology, Walter Koch, the originator of a new system of Houses and the pioneer of psychological astrology, Olga von Ungern-Sternberg. Subsequently, a new significant phase of the cycle is Cupido's square with Neptune/Kronos=Admetos, which occurred during the years 1989-1990, when a powerful rise of the interest towards astrology throughout the whole world. In Russia and territories of the former Soviet Union, where its practice, under the communist regime, had been prohibited and where the few astrologers were subject to persecution. Many astrologers today began their career at this time. And the project Hindsight by Robert Hand setting up a whole new vision of astrology. If one turns to the earlier phases, the semi-square of Cupido occurred in the years 1844-1847, when an interest in astrology was beginning to grow in England and when almanachs spreaded. And it is in the years 1915-1916 that one can locate the square, a period which corresponded to a high interest in mysticism and occultism. It was at the moment when this aspect was exact that the famous journal by A. Trojanovski Isida, devoted to astrological and esoteric themes. During the years 1930-1931, it was the meeting of the Neptune/Kronos=Admetos axis with the midpoint "of authority in astrology" (Kronos/Apollon=Uranus), concomitant meeting with the birth of Neil Michelsen, author of popular American Ephemeris, and Joan Negus, director of the NGCR (center for research on cosmic cycles). Then the waning semi-square took place during the years 1938-1941, corresponding to a new phase of rise of the interest towards the themes of astrology and occultism at the beginning of the Second World War (particularly in Germany). It was in 1938 that the American Federation of Astrologers was created, the oldest association of astrologers still existing today in the United States. We see from these examples that the formulas of Uranian astrology relating to astrology work well within the framework of the various analysis techniques (synastry and composite chart, directions and transits), as well as in all areas, both in genethliac astrology and in mundane astrology. 2 by Ouranos Here is an example chart - Robert Hand JU = UR/AP - Success as an astrologer what's more Cupido is in the picture JU= UR/CU - His success will be shared with the community, organizations. And the trio SU/ME/VE is squaring AP/CU. A very powerful combination! Blessings! Quote Fri Jul 28, 2023 2:56 pm
3 by Ouranos Here is the chart of Dane Rudhyar SU/ARI = UR/AP = A leader in astrology, forging a new vision The Sun in Aries at the Aries Point sesquiquadrate both Apollon and Uranus Also SU=MC/AD = Someone going to the root cause of things. 4 by Ouranos Here is the chart of Lois Rodden, founder of the Astrodatabank. She was a pioneer in raising awareness of the sourcing of data being foundational in the credibility of astrology. Not surprising to find her Mercury/Saturn opposition, typical of researchers, in the midpoint Uranus/Apollon. With also ME=JU/AS, a guarantee of success. And Zeus (authority) at 6 Leo in the picture indicating leadership, creativity, a far reaching goal oriented person. She was also part of MENSA, the largest and oldest high-IQ in the world. 5 by Ouranos I was quite surprised when I looked up the chart of Jim Lewis, the pioneer of the technique of Astrocartography. Locational astrology is an old concept but it fits well with MO/MC= UR/AP MO/MC shows constant changes in one's career as an astrologer (UR/AP) as he travelled extensively. And what better combination than showing up through his program what happens when you move to a different location (Moon) in the world. But Hades conjunct Admetos in Aries (oppressed frame of mind) opposite his Moon cannot be ignored. A tormented soul. He must have gone through periods in his life when he hated astrology or what he was doing. In a short bio from Robert Currey, he says Jim Lewis felt that his illness (brain tumor) was brought on by the pressures of the A*C*G business. Love and hate under the same roof. Not an easy road but someone who will be remembered and cherished for generations. Blessings! Quote Mon Jul 31, 2023 10:42 am
6 by Ouranos Johannes Kepler has Sun-Venus in the midpoint UR/AP in a stellium in Capricorn. With Venus, does it explain his Harmonices Mundi ? Or his writings on music? The conjunction Mercury/Uranus semi-square MC is another indicator of astrology. Kepler was somewhat disdainful of astrology in his own day, as he was "continually attacking and throwing sarcasm at astrology. Nonetheless, Kepler spent a huge amount of time trying to restore astrology on a firmer philosophical footing, composing numerous astrological calendars, more than 800 nativities, and a number of treaties dealing with the subject of astrology proper. We find this signature with Uranus/Hades midpoint at MC (to suddenly experience loathsomeness and disgust). Blessings! Quote Mon Jul 31, 2023 9:40 pm
7 by Ouranos Nicholas Campion, a British astrologer and historian of astrology and cultural astronomy. He is the author of a number of books and currently pursues an academic career. In the midpoint UR/AP = JU/AS = JU = ME That's says a lot about his wide interests as a professor, former president of the Astrological Lodge of London, director of the Sophia Centre and of the University's Harmony Institute. Wide as Jupiter! Blessings! Quote Tue Aug 01, 2023 12:52 am
8 by Ouranos Chris Brennan Stellium around UR/AP = SUN (To be an astrologer) = Sun/Cupido (Need to be part of a group, community, association of astrologers) = Sun/Admetos opposition (To be very selective in one's circle) = Sun/Saturn (The teacher, serious person) A full package. I see the allegory 'The Cave' where Plato describes a group of people who have lived chained to the wall of a cave all their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall from objects passing in front of a fire behind them and give names to these shadows. Blessings! Quote Tue Aug 01, 2023 2:27 am
9 by Ouranos Our host Deborah Houlding has connections to Uranus/Apollo similar to Robert Hand. Jupiter at MC = Uranus/Apollon (Success in astrology) And Cupido/NN = The founding of a forum, her address book is full of contacts. In Gemini all squaring the MC and UR/AP Venus/Kronos = Main formula for the great helping hand Sun/Vulcan = Power, authority, reference. Uranus/Aries Point = Initiating something new in astrology AS/Hades = At times, questioning if the whole thing is worthed. Which might be have to do with dealing with disagreeable people in her environment or forum. In Sag, MC= Saturn/Cupido = People come and go. Blessings! Quote Tue Aug 01, 2023 10:57 pm

MC/Zeus = A leader, goal oriented, to assert himself successfully. AS/Kronos = Need to work in an environment with officials, regulations and standards. Saturn/Pluto = Need to isolate himself in order to regenerate. Uranus/Cupido = To be part of groups or associations of astrology. Note that he is from a generation with Apollon/Cupido conjunction square Uranus, so the sense of belonging to a larger community challenging the institutions which was highlighted at the end of WW2. Re: To be or not to be an astrologer 11 by james_m hi ouranos its an interesting question and astro thought exercise.... it seems to me this is a post for the general astrology section as opposed to ''mundane astrology''.. regardless, i often make parallels with astrology and music... what would be the astrology of a musician? i know that musicians come in every different shape and size, so i would not want to limit it to anything in particular... sure, venus might stand out more, just like uranus might stand out more in an astrologer, but after that - i think it breaks down.... well, those are some of my quick thoughts on that! thanks for responding on the other thread about being from quebec.. Re: To be or not to be an astrologer 12 by Ouranos James wrote... what would be the astrology of a musician? Musician formula is SU + AP -VE For example, the Rulebook says SU+AP = VE To become known as a musician. Successes in art. Any personal midpoint connecting to this point with MC (as a profession) or AS (to be surrounded by artists). Also AP+AP = VE The science of music. ---------------------------- About astrology Faith McInerney on her blog says about Uranus/Apollon and astrology https://midpointobservatory.blogspot.co ... ollon.html Sun-Uranus/Apollon Sec'y of American Federation of Astrologers Sun=Uranus/Apollon 39' orb DOB April 20, 1906 St. Louis, Mo N.
