For example, occupations related to Saturn includes farmers or slaves, but if the native lives in cities, it is unlikely that he or she are farmers and obviously there are no slaves now in most civilized countries.

Whether I use traditional astrology or jyotish, I like to refer to Bill Levacy's book, Beneath a Vedic Sun. It covers the seven traditional planets and adds the moon's nodes, since they're used in jyotish. Adjustments fot tropical astrology should not be difficult to make. I have not seen other books that goes as deep as this one yet. If you decide to get it, pay attention to its price, since it may be out of print.
