I have just joined this forum yesterday - I have been dipping in and out for weeks - and decided this is the place I need to be to learn more about Horary. I am very impressed as you can tell and its nice to be able to read that there are novices like me out there as well. I have just
cast a chart enquiring when my books will arrive - but being such a novice I don't really know where to start - which house should I choose to represent books. Please can you help this baby astrologer.

These sorts of questions can always get complicated if you start wondering whether a book is a book (maybe 3rd house as a source of information; maybe 9th as a source of wisdom); a personal possession (since you?ve paid for it), or someone else?s possession until it arrives in your hands (9/10ths of the law and all that).

Basically what you are asking is whether the goods you have ordered will arrive safely. I?d put the emphasis on the 2nd house and would see the goods as mainly signified by the Moon, because the Moon is usually the object or the commodity in a matter of trade. I?d be looking at the aspects that the Moon is moving from and to, and whether there is an application between your significator and/or the Moon to the 2nd house, as the house of your gain and possessions, or its ruler. The other person involved in the trade is the 7th house, although you might also cast an eye to the 9th house as one that generally represents publishers. But basically if the movement of the Moon is to positive aspects with harmonious (or at least no hostile) indications around the 2nd house, I think you can expect the books to arrive, and you can get some general sense of timing from the perfection of aspects including those made to house cusps. If the ruler of the 2nd or 7th is retrograde they may have gone astray in the post.

Even whilst you are new to this, don?t get hung up about needing to stick to ?rules? ? there might be something else entirely in that chart that catches your eye and makes you think it might be relevant. Any planet on an angle is likely to be important for example. If there is something that strikes your interest, ponder on it, and make a few lists of what it might or might not mean. This sounds like a practical nuisance but not something you?ll break your heart over if you get the judgement wrong, so have a bit of fun with it and be creative. If you get it all wrong, I?m still sure you?ll learn a lot from it if you really apply yourself to it and don?t give up quickly because you feel it is beyond you.

I would also take a good look at Fortuna... see the ruler(s), in which house are fortuna and her ruler, in which essence, what are the aspects they are suffering.
For example, even if the second house ruler seens ok, I wouldn?t be happy if the ruler of fortuna were a saturn in leo in detriment and combust.

Thank you so much for your replies. I thought afterwards that I did not give you the chart particulars so here goes date 11-8.06 time 10.12. Place 52 N 001W00 - The Ascendant is 4 degrees Libra if this helps. I have not received the books today. The 2nd house ruler is in Cancer in the 10th house - there are no planets on angles as I can see. THe 2nd and 1st rulers are the same and the 9th as well. Help.

Hi Everyone

I am still workking on this chart and have decided that perhaps Mars which is in Mercury's house (mercury representing writing) Mars representing 7th house is in 12th house locked away(concealed, hidden) and it is also in exaltation of Mercury but in the tripilicity, term and face of Venus. I am wondering if these books are somewhere en route held up because of the bomb/terroists threat at the airports. The moon and venus also wil come to a trine in 13 degrees (13 days) the Moon is in the 6th and Venus is in 10th. 6th people who do for you and 10th the king, governments the boss. Am I on the right track? If not please advise - thank you so much. By the way Path of Fortune in 8th in Taurus ruled by Venus - somebody mentioned the Path of Fortune in an earlier post.

The story so far - I ordered two astrology books over the internet to be delivered within 14 days of the order. Trying to come to grips and learn Horary Astrology I thought it would be a good idea to set up a chart to see when in that 14 days they would arrive. I also posted it on this site to see if anyone could give me pointers as to where to start. Deb was very helpful in this. One book did arrive and I was quite pleased that I seemed to have worked out the correct time of arrival but could you help me to find where in the chart would it show the second book being held up. I am really worried now that it won't turn up at all. I just have no idea. Any help no matter how small would be gratefully appreciated.

Dolly in the forum guidelines we ask members not to make their requests for input in that manner because it pulls on the emotions of people who will be glad to help anyway, if you?re asking about an astrological point we can comment on. This is only a missing book after all.

I think I misunderstood. I assumed you were worried about the books not being delivered from the start, otherwise I would have suggested that it?s not a good idea to create horary charts simply for the purposes of having something to practice on. All charts are clearer if they are in reference to a matter of real concern, for which all practical solutions have been exhausted. I think a better time to have considered using horary for this was when the expected time of delivery had elapsed, or after you?d queried it with the publisher. Then you?d have had a clearer moment of recognition for the problem. That said, there?s enough affliction of the 7th house ruler (the person you are trading with) to suggest they haven?t got their act together, so from this chart it looks like the fault lies with them.

But also remember that the Sun is conjunct Saturn in this chart, and the Moon is caught up in some difficult aspects before it eventually makes the trine to Venus, so I would expect some problems and delays. Right now Mercury is combust and Mars is conjunct the SN, so I'd perhaps wait another week to let some of that negativity pass before raising a complaint on it.
