Over roughly the last ten days, fellow SkyScript user AJ and I have been thoroughly examining the birth charts of transgender individuals undergoing male-to-female and female-to-male transitions. We've compiled a list of chart examples, which can be accessed on AstroDatabank through the following links:

Our in-depth analysis is based on these charts, allowing us to explore various astrological factors related to transgender experiences.

In this study, which lacks statistical validity, we employed six charts for analysis. These charts represent Chaz Bono, Reed Erickson, Caitlyn Jenner, Dylan Mulvaney, and two personal examples with a direct connection to myself.

Our approach involved utilizing the sidereal zodiac with Krishnamurti ayanamsa and whole sign houses, while focusing on astrological concepts that resonated with our experience. We grappled with the role of the outer planets, specifically Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, but acknowledged their influence in some of these charts, including their connections to the nodal axis.

We assigned significance to Mercury as a gender-neutral planet, particularly when it exhibited greater strength in an individual's chart. Mercury’s role in collaboration with traditional male planets (Sun and Mars) and female planets (Moon and Venus) was used to assess relative dominance in shaping an individual's gender-related societal roles. The debate surrounding the gender classification of the outer planets, and even Saturn, remains an ongoing discussion between us.

AJ compiled a list of considerations that we deemed important for our study. While we struggled to establish a definitive order of priority for these factors, the order of importance as represented in this small sample of charts emerged below. A more confident ordering could result if we were to expand our analysis to include all the charts referenced in the Astrodatbank links shared above.

For now, this list provides us and perhaps others with insights for exploring this contemporary topic from an astrological perspective. We appreciate your interest in our work.

Regarding the specific considerations listed:
1. Close affliction of Rahu (NN) or the 8th or 12th house lord to the Ascendant or its ruler, or their affliction to the Moon or Venus. The influence of the 12th house lord on the 5th house or its ruler also merits consideration.
2. The combination of a weakened or poorly placed Venus and Mars, with at least one of them being significantly afflicted, may indicate a propensity for transgender or non-binary identities.
3. The presence of a weak or afflicted Jupiter was a common trait in all four charts.
4. The relative strength and positioning of Mercury in comparison to Venus and Mars played a crucial role.
5. The activation of the 11th house was notable in all the charts, particularly in relation to the 5th/11th axis.
6. The influence of major and sub-periods of planets causing afflictions during the teenage years also factored into our analysis.

This sounds like very interesting research, and as time allows I'll be looking at some of the charts. I kind of wish you had thought to ask if I wanted to participate in this study as I have some academic training in how to do research. Also I have some ideas as to how to appraoch transgender charts. Anyway I'll be looking at some charts. Just reading over your list, however, it's probably much too comprehensive. But thank you for alerting us to your research.

Yes AJ and James,
We all need to be educated with the transgender phenomena.
Not forgetting that astrology describes how more than what.
And suggesting Mercury is a good starting point. As we know, the brain is our biggest sexual organ.

Mercury's apparent diameter, depending on its distance from Earth, can range from 4.5 arcseconds at apogee to 12.9 arcseconds at perigee.
It might be interesting to look up the Heliocentric charts of transgenders.
Just trying to throw some water to your mill.

this is by no means statistically valid.. i am not sure if it ever could be, but it is fun to consider given how it takes up a fair amount of mental real estate in the west today.. aj had encouraged me to leave out any political angle to all of this which i have honoured so far!

i choose this one based on noticing it didn't immediately conform to our axiom list "3. The presence of a weak or afflicted Jupiter was a common trait in four of the 7 charts." i was also drawn to the prominent uranus on the midheaven... we have had the conversation on the role of the outers and aj had mentioned the idea that mercury and uranus share some things in common - perhaps these 2 planets are the most neutral with regard to sexuality symbolically speaking.. we have seen uranus show up in the limited number of charts we have done - sun-uranus conjunctions and trines, uranus conjunct the nodal axis and stuff like this... but we are undecided on how to incorporate the outer planets as anything other then more of a question mark as to its role...

prominent uranus on midheaven... prominent jupiter on the descendant - involved in philanthropic activity? the 2 planets are square one another..

mercury in taurus conjunct mars - mercury ruler of lagna.. mercury square the nodal axis.. nodal axis in 6/12 houses..

sun in gemini square saturn in virgo. sun rules the 12th.. saturn rulers 5/6 houses..

moon trine rahu - moon rules the 11th..
neptune rising... lagna midpoint to saturn-neptune. mercury trine neptune..

venus conjunct pluto in the 11th... both square the moon - ruler of the 11th.. mutual exchange between moon and venus.. looks like saturn is at the midpoint of moon-venus square...

It ticks all of the axioms except maybe Jupiter.

Lagna lord Mercury is well placed but combust and afflicted by close association with 8L Mars. Additionally Mercury is in exact square to the RKA.
Mercury-Mars is in the 8th Lunar house and in the 12 Solar house.
Moon is afflicted by Rahu from the 6H.
12L Sun and 5L Saturn are in a mutual exact square.

8L Mars is well placed but combust and afflicted by 12L Sun by conjunction. This is a mutual affliction.
Venus is well placed in the 11th house and strong with an exact mutual trine with Jupiter.
[Axiom 2]

Jupiter is well placed but is in exact square to Uranus. If you take Uranus as a malefic then Jupiter is afflicted since the aspect is within 2 degrees. It could also be argued that Jupiter is strong and the effect of Uranus made him overly optimistic and enthusiastic.

Lagna lord Mercury is very prominent and mutually afflicted with Mars caught in the elbow of the RKA.

There is a lot of activity in this chart but the 5/11 axis is activated due to Venus conjunct Pluto in the 11H both in mutual square to the 11L Moon.
Moon and Venus are in Parivartana yoga (mutual exchange).
[Axiom 5]

According to the bio, Louis by his early teens was interested in male homosexuality and gender identity. At age 17, Louis began a long-term relationship with a self-described "feminine" male lover, and played with gender roles. This would coincide with the afflicted 5L Saturn mahadasha that started in early teens at age 12 ½. At age 17 the bhukti of Lagna lord Mercury was in force.

we proceeded to get into a conversation on the role of uranus again and if it could operate as a malefic on the nature of jupiter here... it is tricky when you define the outers as malefic in nature, as they can skew a view on any chart.. but the square from uranus to jupiter is prominent in this chart.. the midpoint of venus-moon in this chart is fairly close to the position of saturn.. also - saturn is in a fairly tight square with the sun..

the fact is, it is hard to ignore the outer planets... neptune rising is yet another consideration to the chart here... saturn rising too! - saturn is known to take on different roles and i think of it as a real chameleon which is not a standard idea on saturn.. in fact - saturn rising makes me think of this... and of course saturn can be thought of as male or female too....

as you can see - lots of conjecture, but not much of any stats! perhaps others have some insights on all of this.. perhaps as ouranos suggests - a look at helio would reveal something, but we have been primarily concerned with the sidereal zodiac.. it will look different in tropical and perhaps some or all of these axioms will break down when viewed via a different zodiac medium, or in heliocentric positions..
