The 3 game series, last of the regular season, starts tonight at Rogers Centre, Toronto, at 7:07 pm

Tampa Bay Rays 1st and 10th
L1 Mars at 21 Libra in 7th
Moon sep opposition Sun
Mars applying to no one
Mars mit. partile semi-sextile (conj) with Mercury

Jays 7th and 4th
L7 Venus at 22 Leo in 5th
Moon app opposition Mars
Venus applying to no one
Moon (L4) in partile semi-sextile with Jupiter

Neither appears to be getting any help, the partile square to Uranus has passed for the Jays. The Mars-Venus rulerships favour Tampa but the partile Mars-Mercury aspect indicates they may be error prone (6th). Question is, will they make enough errors to allow the Jays a win or will they win in spite of themselves? And will the Moon's unmitigated partile sextile with Jupiter (L9, co-ruler of 12th) help or hinder the Jays? To close to call?

Probable Outcome: Going to give Tampa the edge primarily on Mars strength over Venus.

Not much is going on for both teams tonight.
The beginning of the game seems to favor the Rays but at the end of the game, the Jays could take over.

Jays
None of the aspect connecting to their natal placements only between transiting planets.
Rays
Semi sextile Mercury-Mars connecting to their daily MC

Advantage - Rays

Cumulative 10/14 71,4%

My system failed on this one.

Hi Ouranos, and mine ... although I think it was me more than the system. I downplayed the Tampa Mars/Mercury aspects as it was a minor aspect, a semi-sextile albeit a mitigated one and I overlooked Bonatti's stricture that a significator joined to a cadent planet is debilitated. Instead I just took it to indicate Tampa would be error prone (which it was, they made 3 errors during the game, which led to 5 runs for the Jays; they also hit into a couple of double plays, ruining a few of their own chances to score). So, need to pay attention to all partile aspects, minor or not, and especially if they are mitigated. Have you tried looking at the mitigated aspects in your charts to see if they make a difference as to strength? I am finding Paulus' rules on this to be fairly useful for both aversions and for when a square or sextile's power is doubled.

Second, I overlooked Jupiter's power of expansion which appears to mean big scores: 11-4 is quite a difference. Probably need to review the games and check both Saturn and Jupiter's possible influence on the final scores.
Tomorrow is another day!
And that day is here. Off to look at today's chart; start time is earlier, 3:07pm
Good luck to us both (and the Jays in particular, magic number is 1 with 2 games left to play!)

Chart for today's game
Baseball-20230930-Jays-vs-Tampa.png Baseball-20230930-Jays-vs-Tampa.png Viewed 29141 times 105.76 KiB
Tampa Bay 1st and 10th
L1 Saturn at 1 Pisces in the 2nd
Moon sep trine Venus
Saturn is not applying to anyone

Jays 7th and 4th
L7 Moon at 26 Aries in the 3rd
Moon app sextile Saturn

Tampa has Saturn, the heavier planet.
Both are receiving their assisting planet by easy aspects which, so far, appear to be of no significance in strength concerns.

The only partile aspect is a trine between Mercury and Uranus in the 8th and 4th (Jays 2nd and 10th) ... some unexpected event involving the game (Gemini on 5th) and an injury (Gemini on 6th and Mercury in Virgo in 8th?) Or maybe Jays clinch because another team in the wild card race loses (Mercury is with the Sun) or coach (4th=Jays 10th) is tossed?? Truly at a loss on this one. On the surface, have to give it to Tampa as Saturn is the stronger significator.

Probable Outcome: Tampa win

I should but I don't always look at it in the balance score.
Essentially, the more aspects the better as they represent 'energy' for winning with emphasis on the hard series, a triangulation (2 planets in hard aspect and aspecting the AS or MC) and Angular planets.
And of course the Moon. Is it the final say on the game? Not clear yet on what should be on top of the list.
You can build a very nice scenario with everything that fits your system and then there is that one little overlooked element that defeats the purpose of it all.

Another element to consider is the astrologer.
What if you engage in a prediction with a Mercury/Neptune activation in your chart?
Take me out to the ball game. A wheelchair is fine if you promise to bring me back home before midnight!
:)

God luck for today!

Woot! They Jays lost but they also clinched their playoff spot but not sure who they will play next, Tampa or Minnesota. Today's game is the last of the regular season.

Tampa Rays L1 and L10
L1 Saturn at 1 Pisces in 2nd
Moon sep sextile Saturn
Saturn not applying to anything

Jays L7 and L4
L7 Moon at 10 Taurus in 4th ! IC
Moon app conjunct Jupiter
Venus (L4) app opposition Saturn (L1)

Going to give this one to the Jays with the Moon right on the IC and applying to conjunct Jupiter in the 4th (Jays 10th). Not sure what to make of Venus (L4) opposition to Saturn, so far L4 and L10 haven't particularly played into the final outcomes. Perhaps a real battle; there's a real chance they end up playing each other in the first round and getting into each other's heads now might seem like a good idea. Guess we'll see.

Probable Outcome: Jays win.

I am 10/18 or 55.5%.

Janegca,

How do you see this opposition Mercury/Neptune for both teams?
It is in the axis 2/8 of resources and tools to win the game for both teams. Any other tips?
Lack of clarity, The rulebook says 'motion in air', like swinging for batters. Many strikeouts?
And the Moon is semi-square the midpoint Mercury/Neptune. Rumors, false news, wrong messages.
We will see how it plays out
Blessings!

I've been thinking about the last few days. What would you really need to do to properly test a model. Had me digging through various articles on sports betting and sampling sizes and it may not be as onerous as I thought; here's a brief outline of how my thinking has been running.
  • Develop a hard and fast set of rules that can be applied consistently; no tweaking them during the test period
  • Establish a betting strategy; the moneyline is essentially set so that if you only bet favourites or you only bet underdogs you end up close to even in the long run. To actually make money you'd need to say, have a model that could identify when favourites are likely to lose or underdogs likely to win and then a betting strategy that takes advantage of the model's picks.

For example, the favourites in baseball, during regular season, tend to win 57% of the time over the long haul. So one strategy could be betting the favourite unless your model clearly shows they will lose, then you bet the underdog. I took a look at how my picks would do following this line of thought and my 55.5% hit rate earned $297 to the favourites line loss of $292; of course, all of that was due to Jays being the favourite in the Texas/Jays series and the Jays losing all four games. Essentially, you don't have to pick perfectly 70% of the time but you do need to be able to when not to bet the favourite a decent 5 or 10% better than the consensus picks the favourite.
  • The sample size needed, given a game population of one MLB season (30 teams x 162 games) 4,860 games with a margin of error of 5%, a confidence level of 95% would be 356 games. For an NBA season (30 teams x 82 games) you'd need to sample 333 games, for hockey (32 teams x 82 games), 336 games. So not the 1000's I originally assumed although naturally, the more games tested the more realistic the results.
  • Ideally the samples should be randomized; maybe assign each team a number then use a random number generator to pick 5 numbers each day and examine their game charts and make your picks; that would take just over 2 months to complete. Think live game selections would be best to avoid confirmation bias in the choosing; also, you'd need accurate moneyline odds.
Anyway, that's what I've been considering. Whether or not I'll try it out remains to be seen; too late for the baseball season but the basketball season starts Oct 5th so maybe. Certainly could not watch all the games so no way to time things although with basketball it is possible to look at timing later as there are databases out there with replays that have all the in game times. Timing elements could not be part of an initial model though; they'd have to be after the fact. Might be an interesting project. Would certainly keep me busy...lol

Hi Ouranos ... Mercury seems to pop-up when they make errors. In the Tampa chart it looks to be across the 3rd/9th maybe over optimistic on the bases? Running errors? With they Jays, 1st/8th probably mental errors, fuzzy thinking. With the chart I'm using its across the 12th/6th axis, so the mistakes will cost them runs. Deception somehow, trying to mess with each other's heads? As you say, we will see.
