Looking at the most widely accepted national chart for Iceland when they proclaimed independence from Denmark on June 17, 1944, at 2:00 pm in Sidereal, there are a number of strong astrological configurations to explain, at least, the current earth tremors and the potential destruction of an entire small town. I might add that the affected town of Grindavik, with 4,000 residents, has been safely evacuated. Grindavik is about 1% of the country's population. This is the first time in 50 years a whole town has been evacuated.
At least in the US, the MSM has very little coverage of this event. Compared to Ukraine and the Middle East, it has little to offer in terms of human carnage, so it is deemed not as newsworthy.

Active vulcanism is part of living in Iceland. Earthquakes and tremors are inevitable. Currently and since October of this year, has seen a massive increase in tremors, or what are termed seismic storms.

In Grindavik, Iceland, the massive magma intrusion beneath the town from the Fagradalsfjall volcano is causing the ground to buckle and sink, which is damaging houses and roads. Surface fissures have opened, and there are fears the whole town will collapse. There are serious concerns by authorities about a full lava eruption. Since there is no ice or large areas of water, it is thought it will not be an explosive eruption, unlike the 2010 Eyjafjallajokull eruption, which shut down international aviation for weeks. Volcanologists have said that Fagradalsfjall would not produce as huge an ash cloud if it actually blew. A multiplicity of tremors and earthquakes are still occurring.

Looking at Iceland's natal chart in sidereal using the Krishnamurti ayanamsa. The swarms began in the late part of the Jupiter subperiod in the main period of Saturn, which ended on November 5, 2023.
6th Lord Saturn afflicts the 4th house of landed properties, natural calamities, housing, and communal harmony.
4th lord Jupiter is weak in late degrees in the 11th WSH.
Rahu afflicts the 11th house; close afflictions to the 11th house or its lord by the malefic planets indicate setbacks for the national economy.
The 11th Lord, the Moon, is weak and badly placed in the 8th house, causing accidents and natural disasters.

The main dasha of Mercury is in effect as of November 6th.
Ascendant Lord Mercury, representing the nation as a whole, is exactly conjunct sudden and erratic Uranus in the 9th house. Explosive Ketu is afflicting the 9th house as well, weakening both planets.

Currently in transit around November 10-11th, 5.1 Earthquake and swarm. To this point, over 20,000 tremors were recorded.
Transiting 4th Lord Jupiter is traversing the 8th house of calamities.
Transiting true Rahu is stationary in the 8th house, aspecting natal 4th Lord Jupiter.
Transiting stationary, true Ketu is in the 2nd House, and aspecting Venus, lord of national wealth, is conjunct with the 12th Lord of Losses, the Sun, in the 10th House.
The transiting Saturn lord of financial solvency is on the Bhava Madhya of the 6th House, which is afflicting the 8th, 12th, and 3rd Houses.
The transiting 12th Lord of Losses, the Sun, was conjunct with the transiting 8th Lord Mars in the 2nd House, opposing the 11th House Moon.

Wait, there is more.
Transiting Pluto on the natal nodal axis, the transiting Nodal axis squares the natal Nodal axis, transiting Uranus is square natal Jupiter, transiting Jupiter square Mars/Pluto, the new moon was conjunct natal Jupiter. This is a lot of energy and would indicate that the event is not over any time soon.
The astrology all fits, and it suggests the worst is not yet over.

This latest series of quakes, according to vulcanologists, is likely part of a new euptive cycle after an 800-year hiatus on the Reykjanes Peninsula that began again in March 2021 with an eruption fissures at Geldingadalir, which is just to the south of Fagradalsfjall. The volcanic eruptions are expected all along the peninsula and may last for decades.

Even before this, there were precursive earthquakes and tremors beginning in December of 2019 that sparked fears of an eruption.

The solar eclipse of December 26th, 2019 may have kicked a lot of this off. The eclipse degree was conjunct the IC, forming a grand cross with the Angles and square natal Neptune.

The national chart of Iceland has had serious hits from seven additional eclipse degrees since the December 26th, 2019 eclipse to date; this does not include the recent October 14th and 28th eclipses. Only chance? Perhaps. This could be a rich avenue of research to pursue.

Interesting with transiting pluto on Ketu (South node) in whole sign 4th (land)
Seems to fit with eruptions an powerful stuff occuring in the environment.

Generally isn't the land environment in Iceland Ketu like ?
I mean Ketu is ruling deserts and such environments I think for comparison with the
isolated bare fascinating landscape of Iceland ?

my thinking at this moment hinges on just how important the nodal axis is.. it has become a bit of an obsession with me the past few years and again it is here.. i am considering just how the solar eclipse in april 2024 - for the capital april 8th, 2024 20hr 20 min 37 seconds gives me a sun/moon conjunction at 25 pisces 18 min 07 sec.. the chart for the SE is shown below..



as it happens the angles of this chart are very similar to the angles of the national chart 1944 2pm, that is being used for iceland.. in fact the angles of this chart are at 6 virgo 21 ascendant and 6 gemini 38 midheaven, which both happen to be very close to the planets saturn and neptune which are directly on the angles of the 2pm chart - natal saturn at 6 gemini 39 and neptune at 8 virgo 29... SE jupiter is about 1/2 past an exact conjunction of the 8th house moon in the 2pm natal chart.. the biwheel below shows iceland 1944 chart, with the SE for april 2024 on the outside..



morinus software is good, but it is also skewed, as the lines don't convey the exactness of what i described above.. however if you look at the positions for these 2 charts, you will see what i am talking about...

now to my question.. the nodes seem more active at this moment, then they do for the SE in april 2024.. maybe i am putting too much emphasis on them and think since they are not directly hitting anything in the natal chart we are using for iceland, that these other connections might not have much significance.. its an open question and more speculation on my part.. the only vague connection are the trines from the SE point at 25 pisces to the natal positions of mars at 22 cancer and jupiter at 29 cancer - both typically considered favourable.. lets hope that is the case...

now, i would like to share the solar return for 2023 to this 2pm iceland chart.. it is shown below..

Some random musings here....from the tropical perspective.

Pluto is perhaps the most common astrological signature for Volcanoes where this planet
also is symbolic for under worldly activity which erupts with great force and cataclysmic changes
involved.
In the 1948 chart one could maybe expect a prominent Pluto then in a country inclined to have such
periodic eruptions in the land ?

Pluto in the chart does not do much in first A semisquare to venus is all.
But looking at the Declinations we find:
an OOB (out-of-Bound) Pluto in parallel with MC/IC
Parallel to sun, Venus and saturn (4th ruler).

Quite a lot.

The tropical Solar return find Pluto right on IC ( Vulcanic eruption risk in the land environments -4th)
By transit this is on the South Node in the natal 4th WS house.
This puts attention to this transit for the year.

Hi James: Sorry, it's taken me awhile to circle back on this.
The eclipse degree for April 8th, 2024 SE is not contacting any points in the 9Virgo rising chart for Iceland by hard aspect (0, 90, 180).
I'm lazy when it comes to eclipses, if there are no actual points in the natal chart being energized by the eclipse degree, I pretty much consider that an eclipse will not resonate with a particular chart except a PNE degree. However, the synergy you have found with this eclipse is intriguing. The Angles between the two charts do eerily align to within a few degrees of each other.

I see the same; the Nodes are not activated to any real degree in this April '24 eclipse chart. In fact, except for the Angles being so aligned, there is not much that gets my attention. As I mentioned above, unless the eclipse degree activated a sensitive point in the natal/national chart, I wouldn't expect much to happen.

Now the lunar eclipse of March 25th, 2024, the eclipse degree at 11 Virgo is conjunct the ascendant by a degree and a half, creating a grand cross to the Angles. This one gets my attention. With this eclipse, there is not a lot of Nodal action going on except LE Rahu's trine to natal 8th lord of accidents and natural disasters Mars.

It's, as you say, all very speculative. I've not put a lot of research into earthquakes myself, but it is a fascinating area of astrology.
To date, the vulcanologists are expecting an imminent eruption that could happen within days. Fertile ground for pretty safe astrological predictions LOL
Aside from the obvious, the astrology of it all is that Iceland is due for a long haul.

Hey Stephan: Thanks for doing the research on the past earthquakes and noting the importance of Pluto, even in a tropical island paradise sort of way. LOL.

Your observation of how little Pluto energy there is in this chart, but finding the associations in the parallels to tie Pluto into the warp and weave of the natal chart, was brilliant. Like most astrologers, I tend to forget about them, and they have never been a consideration in traditional Indian astrology anyway.

This is more James' area of expertise, but I have been meaning to get more experience with midpoints.
Searching for more Pluto energy in the chart, I noted:
Mars is at the midpoint of Pluto/Jupiter.
The Sun is at the midpoint of Mars/Pluto.
Pluto itself is on the Uranus/MC.
I was expecting a little more Uranus in the midpoint mix, but oh well. I am sure there are some other significant ones that I have missed.

The whole thing started in late october with movements underneath the landmass of Iceland.
This could correlate with the fullmoon eclipse in late october squaring radix Pluto (vulcanoes) ,
as a trigger of other stuff.

I looked briefly into forward aspects and find that there seems to be interesting activity in the chart you
posted in late december into january perhaps ?

- Mars transits IC and 4th house
- Fullmoon activating natal Pluto
- Uranus stationing on natal Moon in 8th ( in a profected 8th house year)

I like the idea of this exercise, but where did you hear of the eruption? A video on social media? According to a Reuters article published Nov 21:

Since there was quite a bit of activity going on (though no actual eruption) I'll share a couple of quick thoughts.

Here's a noon chart in Tropical for the date in question; outers removed.
The Moon is in its fall, combust, and besieged while between Sun-Mars in Scorpio. Moon has associations with liquids and flow (also ports by the sea), hidden as it is by the Sun adds a detail of something underground in nature. Together, Mars and the Sun give excessive heat, while Scorpio (a water sign) adds again a liquidy, dangerous/poisonous tone - magma? As for the tremors Mars is abrupt and destructive, the Sun a source/THE ultimate source of power, Scorpio again adds an element of underground or hidden things...
etc.

If I had a more specific time for the disruptions it would be interesting to consider how close to and what angles these three planets together connect with, [further edit to comment at 6:05 AM EST:]but it is interesting how even this noon chart shows Mars ruling the MC (the crown of the chart - public attention/focus) while on the 12th cusp (adding again a hidden element and danger to all mentioned above) and the ruler of the ASC (general state of the city), Jupiter, is in the 4th (land; also mining and things beneath the earth)
