Vasilios Takos - Theophilus of Edessa on war and conflict charts

Skyscript now has a YouTube channel - at https://www.youtube.com/@skyscriptastrology

The latest addition is the recording of a presentation given by Vasilios Takos in 2021 for that year's STA Student Conference.

Theophilus of Edessa on war and conflict charts
Theophilus of Edessa, Greco-Syriac medieval astrologer who served the caliphs in Baghdad in the late 8th century, made unique contributions to the techniques of military astrology. Even when military astrology seems trivial, in times of peace, its methods always remain significant because they set the template for rules applied in trials, legal matters or any kind of conflict chart. Theophilus transmits the approach of Rhetorius and Dorotheus but further develops it through his own knowledge, part of which will be examined through considering his different examples.

i finished watching this video yesterday... i recommend the video for anyone interested in this topic.. i think its a really great presentation by the greek fellow and the graphics in the video are quite nice too... there is a questions to the author section in the last 10 minutes which is interesting as well.. the fellow - vasilios - is asked if he has read ben dykes translation of this book - https://bendykes.com/product/astrologic ... of-edessa/
but vasilios couldn't say as he hadn't read it...

my question to anyone else who watched this video is what is the difference between a person asking a question - a horary approach to getting an answer, verses using the start time for a war? is there a difference? i think there is... we have 2 war charts in the past few years that continue on - the invasion of ukraine by russia in feb 2022 and the hamas attack on oct 7th this year.. the times for these events are fairly exact... has anyone tried to read these charts using the rules outlined in this video that vasilios takos has shared?

of course, i tried to use the ideas while looking at the 2 charts i have for these 2 'wars' at present.. deb seemed interested to look at charts based on her commentary in the video.. has she looked at these charts i cite? i am using feb 24, 2022 430 am kharkiv for the russia invasion chart, while i am using oct 7, 2023, 630am gaza while the israel ground attack was initiated oct 27th tel aviv 19 07..

I have looked at the charts James, but not with any especially great attention myself. For lack of time this year I have mostly followed the narrative of others. For example, Wade Caves wrote a very good introductory piece about the commencement chart of the Hamas attack and how it related to the Israel national chart, etc. He has a presentation about it on the Skyscript channel too, which you might find of interest - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq_OQxaoIfI&t=19s

Deb,

I have a copy of the CCAGs written in Greek.
Where can we find them translated in English?
Was the presentation of Vasilios a direct translation of his own from the Greek texts?

I have found his presentation very interesting because these rules could be extended to trials, love affairs, financial transactions, sports and anything when there is an exchange of sort.

Happy Holidays!
