Re: Horary Question on the Legitimacy of a Teacher

Thanks Georgius for your good explanation. The 7th House is a tote with anybody who does not have a 'status' in our life.

Jason,
Love the ideas you are throwing in.
One fact check when choosing a house is to see if it describes the person. Or at least what we know of the person. Here we know he is a spiritual leader or at least that's what he says. Mars in Sag in the turned 9th points in that direction.
Mind you, asking if so and so a real teacher, I would prefer a more clear question or dig into the real intentions of Neptune as we have seen the axis 2/8 being highlighted in the chart. But he did not ask about it. Just to verify that so and so was a real teacher.

Best to all,
Ouranos
Blessings!

Thanks, Ouranos. Always a good time gazing at charts w you.
I envision us side by side in a museum, rapt over some or other work of art - describing what we see to each other. Haha.

Yes. I definitely see your reasoning here and think it's sound.

I'd prefer a clearer question, too. But what I did think was that I could read a bit "between the lines" in Neptune789's choice of words in conveying the situation/question:
Neptune789 wrote: Fri Dec 22, 2023 11:14 pm Recently, I came across the website of a teacher of Chinese metaphysics. I wondered whether he was the real deal. The course fees were rather expensive (for someone on an average salary in North America). However, if he were the real deal, then they would be quite cheap. I asked, "Is so-and-so a real teacher?"
And I guess that's how I also came to see the 2nd/8th emphasis as fitting for the question.
thoughts are just thoughts

I believe Neptune789 is concerned about the authenticity, effectiveness, and helpfulness of the course content provided by this teacher. Therefore, we need to examine the 9th house, as the 9th house represents knowledge.

If Neptune789 is concerned about the interaction or relationship with this teacher, perhaps we should look at the 7th house, as the 7th house represents the person in question.

If we put the scenario in the context of seeking medical advice, the doctor falls under the 7th house because we don't necessarily need to know the knowledge the doctor possesses; what we need is the doctor themselves, as they will directly relate to us.

The differences in opinions on whether to assign the 7th House or the 9th House to the person at issue are certainly interesting.

What persuaded me that Ouranos must be correct was the fact that the person at issue was in fact "a foreign spiritual leader in Chinese metaphysics". In this case, a white guy. In my original post, I did not mention the fact that he was "foreign".

It is interesting that the 7th House and the turned 9th House are both ruled by Mars. This suggests to me that Mars can effectively represent both the person at issue and the knowledge of the person at issue.

In terms of the deeper meaning of my question, the person at issue purported to teach both predictive Qi Men Dun Jia and magical Qi Men Dun Jia. This was analogous to teaching both predictive astrology and astrological magic. In terms of Western astrology, this is now commonplace. There are any number of teachers that teach both predictive astrology and astrological magic. However, for Qi Men Dun Jia, this is still quite rare. To be honest, based on a Baidu entry (e.g., the Chinese version of Wikipedia), I thought that magical Qi Men Dun Jia might no longer be taught or practised. At least, I thought I would have to search hard through personal networks to find someone, who knew about magical Qi Men Dun Jia. Therefore, I was quite surprised, when I saw this content advertised on the internet.

My decision not to pursue this at this time was in part financial. In part, I wished to focus on Western astrology for the time being. If the timing is right later on, I may pursue this depending on the results of further divination.

I hope you don't mind me asking if you're from China. Like you, I also come from China. I don't want to provoke any regional attacks or biases.

The reason I ask is because I see some reflections of my past in you. I spent more than 10 years in Taiwan, and during those years of living abroad, I feel like I've learned to laugh at myself and not take others' opinions and thoughts too seriously. Instead, I've learned to genuinely respect and appreciate others.

Isn't it interesting? Considering the environment we come from...

You don't have to answer my question, and if you feel offended, I want to apologize in advance.

I'm just curious and enjoy observing others.

Wishing you a wonderful day!

Hi, Wei.

It is nice to see a fellow Chinese person (同胞) here.

I am Chinese Canadian. I grew up in Canada. However, I very much see myself as part of the Chinese people.

This being an astrology forum, I would also add that I see a great future for traditional Western astrology in China and in the Chinese diaspora. The study of traditional Western astrology may also serve to reinvigorate Chinese traditions. I say this with an eye to the long term, e.g., 10 to 30 years from now.

Hi Neptune789,

I haven't encountered a teacher and friend I resonate with in China or Taiwan, but I have found teachers and friends I like in Western countries. Consequently, I haven't delved deeply into Chinese metaphysics. I believe that if I decide to study Chinese metaphysics, I should find it relatively easy to learn. The principles are the same, we observe the same world, and we all reside on one Earth.

Until I fully understand the practical applications of Qi Men Dun Jia (奇門遁甲) or Feng Shui(風水), I will approach learning about them with great caution.
