First, we have the MC squaring Uranus which brings excitement and tension and oftentimes a bigger payoff, understanding not the favorite. But not always, sometimes accidents, like in the 4th race, the MC was in the midpoint MA/UR
The favorite Cuthbert Dibble 6/5 came in first
Supremely West at 100/30 came in 2nd.
Heros De Romay at 15/1 came in 3rd
With 8 horses, 1 fell and 3 pulled up

One of the midpoint you can watch is the Moon/ASC midpoint as it represents the people, the general public at this location.
When Borodale won, the MO/AS midpoint was at the Aries Point like what's going on at the corner of the street, what is visible in the midpoint SU/UR (accidents or excitement of the day).

More could be said but I am just launching some ideas to chew on.
A program contains a lot of information on the race itself.
1) Betting number, horse, country of origin, morning line odds, owner, silks, jockey
2) Color, sex, age, sire, dam, trainer.
3) First-time gelding, weight to be carried today.
4) Career and yearly record.
5) Lifetime record by track and distance.
6) More recent performances
7) Odds, speed rating, track variant.
8 ) Workouts
9) Trainer's statistics

All of these could be indicated in a chart. For example, with Saturn you can expect an older horse or running with an handicap, with Mercury an apprentice jockey etc.
For every track, there is an angle that predominates. It could be speed, distance and surface or the allowance race. You will need to know what stands out at this specific racetrack.
But before any analysis, you have to check out if your chart says you have a chance to be a winner, because any system you use on a lucky day will end up being right.
Winning is an 'internal' process not something outside of you. Put an astrologer and someone who knows nothing about astrology together. If the someone in question is on a lucky day, he will beat the astrologer every time.
Let me tell you a story. Many many years ago, I was invited to give a lecture on horseracing by a group of astrologers followed by a visit at the racetrack on the following day. Early Leo was a lucky placement on that weekend. One astrologer if I remember well had a Sun/Moon conjunction early Leo. I pointed out that he should place a bet in the 5th race, even if he did not use any astrology techniques. Here is what happened. When the 5th race came in, he got involved in a turbulent discussion with other fellows and at the end of the race, I turned back and asked him if he had placed a bet. He looked at me in awe and told me that he had forgotten to wager.
Sometimes horseracing is not your thing. Maybe a career as a politician would be a better fit!

Of all the factors, Uranus (upset, surprise) and Neptune (deception) seems to be the 2 planets disrupting a favorite, especially when Angular or connected to the Angles or planets in hard aspects to these 2
A race is a snapshot in time of the crowd reaction.
So this is why you can look at
A/M = at this moment and place (This angle is pretty reliable)
MO/AS = to be brought into the eyes of the public by others
MO/MC = emotions in the crowd.

Planets and midpoints in the midpoints.
Soft aspects do not indicate a favorite. The midpoint will qualify the soft aspect.
Success is not always an easy road. On the other hand, a multiplication of easy aspects is a sure way to success.

Look at the recent display in the sky
Example:
Venus trine Jupiter (the joy of money). in the midpoint...
= Aries Point Luck and joy in the general public (Tip: you win with others most likely a favorite)
= ASC Success through others. To be admired. (Tip: ask someone else to pick up a winner for you. You are surrounded by positive vibes)
= MC To receive gifts, love, money (Tip: Listen to what's around you, you are a recipient of success)
= MO Nurturing, peaceful (Tip: Find a woman around to show you the path to success. I was once sitting in front of a slot-machine and the woman sitting next to me was repeatedly winning, I kindly asked her to pick up numbers on my screen and I won (or she won for me!)
and you can go on like this.
Your system for betting, any system is less important than finding out if you are on a lucky day or not.
I knew an astrologer who was very good at picking up winners for people at the racetrack. Did he know anything about horses? No, he was not into horseracing. He was looking at the chart of people. When you are on a lucky day, you can toss the dices and pick up any number that comes up or you can play a number that corresponds to the age of your grandma and you will be in the driver's seat.
Heaven decides for us!

But at first glance, I see a trine between Mercury-Cupido/Jupiter = AS = Saturn Talk or news about money.
And checking your diurnal for that day.
