The software is free and can be modified, as per the license terms. When referring to "commercial applications," I assume you mean graphics like charts that are published in texts, videos, or courses for sale. If your usage goes beyond that, please refer to the GNU Library or Lesser General Public License version 2.0 (LGPLv2) mentioned in the license screenshot.

Using Morinus charts as standalone graphics in this context is acceptable. I have several retail books that incorporate Morinus charts and/or menu screenshots, citing the program through parenthetical or in-text citations.

For the sake of good scholarship and as a courtesy, it is advisable to include a citation in your resources or footnotes, mentioning the program used to generate the charts and providing the download link for the software. Alternatively, you can use in-text citations.

I hope this helps.
Regards.

Yes, that’s helpful. I am considering Morinus software to calculate charts for clients in my commercial astrology practice. Software only used for calculation not interpretation. As you suggested, probably a good practice to note on the website what astrology software is being used to calculate charts. Thanks for your help, AJ

Donald, you're welcome. I initially interpreted your first post as referring to using generated charts and tables from the software for purposes beyond consultations. I've never encountered consultation use as an issue either because software developers anticipate this as the primary use of their software.

It's considerate practice to mention the astrology software you use on your website. While it may seem minor, clients often value knowing the tools behind the services they receive, fostering trust and clarity in your practice.

I don't know what your technique needs are in an astrology program, but if you haven't already checked out Planetdance, you should before settling on Morinus. It is a surprisingly powerful free astrology program for both the Windows and Android platforms, In fact, IME it is probably the best free program out there. It also has a full time change atlas for the whole world; I don't think Morinus has that. though I could be wrong.

You can download it here: https://jcremers.com/ and also find out more information.
You will want to carefully read the license agreement, as with any software you use.

Wishing you success.

Hello, i'm the author of the planetdance software. I was alerted to this thread. Thanks for the compliments! Planetdance has a copyright text which says:

You are allowed to use this program for your astrology consults without any restriction but you are not allowed to make money selling data like tables etc without my consent.

ps. That link has a typo, correct is https://jcremers.com/

Thanks AJ - I work closely with Jean to develop some of the additional modules such as Ed Greek Horoscope, Medieval Traditional Horoscope and many others. Jean also has a number of other collaborators who have added their own modules to the basic program. Jean has developed Planetdance over many years and his work is a great and generous gift to the astrological community. Thank you for passing on your recommendation for his software.

There is also a forum for users to raise questions and comments: https://forum.jcremers.com/.

Best wishes. Ed
