In the last few years I’ve been experimenting (and learning!) how to use the ennead (pronounced any-add) chart for prediction and tracking life events. Jim Eshelman writes that this chart was accidentally discovered by sidereal astrologer Donald Bradley a year before his death and introduced in the September 1973 issue of American Astrology.

The ennead chart is actually a simple 9th harmonic chart based on the degree, minute and second of the natal sun. Nine of these charts occur each year of a person’s life. The most important of these annual charts being the solar return.

Each ennead lasts for 40 days, and it’s very interesting that Donald Bradley pointed out how many times the number 40 is mentioned in the Bible (159 times according to Internet sources!), but most importantly “40 days and 40 nights.” Perhaps we have a clue here as to the possible importance of this chart which I have come to view as a progression of transits to the natal chart lasting from birth to death. The ennead has always to be compared to the natal chart for interpretation.

Chart Format
These charts are set with the natal chart in the center, and the solar return and cusps in the outer circle. I have found these sidereal ennead charts (including the solar return) to be event charts rather than psychological, and they are generally calculated for the birth location. Cusp lines are always the centers of house where planets are strongest. I use the sidereal zodiac with the Krishnamurti ayanamsa.

Lunar Mansions
Since the ennead is a planetary transit chart I employ the Indian Krishnamurti principle of noting lunar mansions and subs where ennead planets are placed in order to determine if a transiting planet is a malefic or benefic influence. So I combine western sidereal return charts with the 27 Indian lunar mansions (formerly referred to as nakshatras).

Both of the solar return charts for Trump and Harris show status (Sun), prestige and public exposure (Jupiter), and both Harris and Trump are/will be presidential candidates for their respective political parties. For interpretation I emphasize close aspects linked to chart angles and elevated planets near the zenith or MC.

Trump's 14 June 2024 Sidereal Solar Return



Donald Trump’s SR has the Sun and Mercury sextiling the ascendant from the benefic 11th house, though the aspect is out of sign. Jupiter is elevated in the chart, always a positive sign, though there is a question mark since this Jupiter is in the Moon’s mansion and sub. In Trump’s natal chart the sidereal Moon is the 12th house lord and conjoins Ketu (Moon’s south node).

Uranus at the ennead MC suggests sudden unpredictable changes sometime during the year. Saturn is partile sextile the MC from the 8th house which I see as a minus.

Harris' 31 October 2024 Sidereal Solar Return



Jupiter in the Sun’s mansion and sub on the 9th house cusp trine the ascendant is a key to this chart, as is Jupiter conjunct the Moon (out of sign but in the same mansion of Mars). This duo forms a very potent configuration, the Hellenistic 9th being the house of kings.

This ennead Moon conjoins Harris’ natal Ascendant and Rahu (Moon’s north node) so we have the natal first house (the person of Kamala) elevated to the 9th house in this SR/ennead.

Mars at the MC making its powerful fourth house (90 degree) aspect to natal Sun activates that natal Sun in the ennead first house. Mars at the MC no doubt reflects great activity and the contest of the campaign. There is something very significant about the ascendant degree of this solar return (which is also the first ennead of the year) which I will discuss later.

If I had to choose the U.S. president from these solar returns alone, my clear vote would go to Kamala Harris. But there are enneads to discuss.

Election Enneads

Kamala Harris election ennead (also her solar return) is discussed above, so to take a look at Trump's election ennead which is set for the 16th of October in his birth place, Jamaica, New York.



Trump’s election ennead looks powerful, and is an added indication to others who have suggested that at election time it may look like Donald Trump is winning the election.

The full Moon crosses from the ascendant to descendant. Transiting Jupiter sits directly on natal Rahu with the Sun in the 10th natal sign. This Jupiter is closely trine the angular ennead Sun in the 7th house. Natal Jupiter is just below the 7th cusp.

We might ask if there are any suggestions in this chart that might spoil such a positive configuration?

(1) The powerful Jupiter trine points to the Sun above the cusp of the 7th house. The Sun is in a star of Mars (strong), but in Saturn’s sub, a negative since the Saturn rules Trump’s six and 7th house and is in the natal 12th house.

(2) Natal Moon with Ketu (Moon’s south node) on the all important 9th cusp is elevated over the potent 3rd house transiting Jupiter on natal Rahu/Sun.

Mars on the nadir and squaring the Sun points to the contest of the election. (Remembering that the election ennead for Kamala Harris also has an angular Mars at the MC.)

Since both the Harris and Trump election enneads have signatures for success, we must go to the following enneads for more information. These enneads begin later in November.

Trump's November 25 Ennead



This chart has a number of key signatures:

(1) Venus at the MC is the reverse of contesting the election as Venus is more related to personal relationships and the home. Venus is in Saturn sub, Saturn being a malefic influence for Trump’s natal Leo ascendant.

(2) Ennead Mercury is partile conjunct Trump’s natal Moon on ennead 9th cusp, both being in Mercury’s star, Saturn sub, another troublesome Saturn influence.

(3) Natal Venus and Saturn are at the nadir, an additional indication of the
Venus/Saturn signature in this chart.

(4) There are no Sun or Jupiter close aspects to the angles.

Now for Kamala Harris’ ennead following the election which checks in on November 30.

Kamala Harris November 30 Ennead



(1) This chart is dominated by Jupiter (in the Moon’s star–good, and Sun’s sub-good) at the MC opposite Mercury at the IC. The MC at less than one degree of Gemini conjoins Harris’ natal ascendant and Rahu (Moon’s north node). Harris’ natal part of fortune is just at the ennead nadir. Without even looking at other ennead planets, this seems to highlight an election victory.

(2) But we also have transiting Uranus partile conjunct Harris’ Jupiter, her 10th house lord. Both Uranus and Jupiter are in the Sun’s star (positive) and Rahu’s sub which is powerful on Harris’ natal ascendant. Most significant of all, the Uranus to Jupiter configuration is on the 9th ennead cusp (house of God and kings) trine the ennead ascendant.

(3)Neptune on the descendant (co-ruler of the 10th natal house) is a positive influence as it’s Harris’ natal 10th house lord and is transiting in Jupiter’s star and Rahu’s sub which is powerful on Harris natal ascendant.

Inauguration Enneads

Finally we have the enneads which cover the inauguration date of 20 January 2025.

Donald Trump's January 3 Ennead



Trump’s natal Sun is at the ennead zenith which looks powerful. Transiting Jupiter is elevated, but a distance from the zenith/MC. Ennead Jupiter is in the Moon’s star and Mercury sub. This isn’t good for Trump as he has a Leo ascendant.

The chart has double Neptunes from the 1st to the 7th house, not good for political ambitions. Neptune on cusp 7 aspects the MC. and co-rules Trump’s natal 8th house.

Ketu (the Moon’s south node) is just under the ascendant in it’s own sub which points to Trump's natal Ketu with the Moon. This isn't a helpful configuration since the Moon is in Saturn's sub. (Ketu gives the results of conjoined planets.)

Transiting Mercury conjoins natal Moon/Ketu in a Saturn sub at the nadir/IC. I would call this the main signature for Trump's failure in this election as Mercury is the planet of communication and is in Saturn's sub which rules the 6th and 7th houses in Trump's natal chart. Transiting Mercury is also in ''extreme old age" at 29 Scorpio 56.

But with such a prominent natal Sun, we can expect that Donald Trump will be certain to make himself visible during this ennead period, which includes election day.

Kamala Harris' January 8 Inaugural Ennead



If we are looking for elevated transiting planets, this chart doesn’t have any though natal Mercury and Sun are widely conjunct the zenith. These planets are activated by the ennead square from Mars. This Mars is also trine the ennead MC. Mars in Saturn’s star and sub is actually good because of the benefic position of natal Saturn in it’s own sign on (equal) cusp 9.

Ennead Jupiter in the Moon’s star (good) and Mercury sub (good) is trine the ascendant. This is a potent plus.

Very significant is the transit of Uranus to Harris’ natal Jupiter at the IC. So Jupiter is emphasized twice in this chart.

Ennead Fortuna is at the ennead IC.

Transiting Moon is at the nadir of the chart in the Moon’s sub. A prominent Moon is always significant in inauguration charts.

But the real significance of Kamala Harris’ election ennead is apparent when it is located to Washington DC at the day and time of the inauguration. I generally don’t re-locate cyclic charts, but these charts can be significant if there is a precisely timed event.



In the outer ring are the inaugural transits set for 12 Noon on January 20, 2025. The inner ring and cusps belong to Kamala Harris' January 8 ennead.
Inaugural Mercury is the degree of Harris' January 8 Sun, just at the zenith.
These are square inaugural Moon on the Harris ennead Washington descendant.

But there is something else that is amazing! I ask, what are the chances of Harris’ solar return ascendant degree being the same degree as the Moon in the inaugural chart? (SR Asc 24 Virgo 53; Inaugural Moon 24 Virgo 25). So we have the 24th degree in Virgo and Sagittarius highlighted in these ways:

22 Vir 43 January 8 Harris Washington DC ennead descendant
24 Vir 25 Inaugural Moon
24 Vir 53 Solar Return ascendant degree!! (birth location)
24 Sgr 33 January 8 Harris ennead Sun at Washington DC zenith
24 Sgr 09 Inaugural Mercury at Washington DC zenith

Also Kamala Harris’ ennead Moon is on the inaugural ascendant:

20 Aries 06 Inaugural ascendant;
16 Aries 43. Harris’ January 8 ennead Moon

These positions all speak of destiny at work, the origin of this destiny being the birth moment of Kamala Harris. All solar return and ennead charts from birth to death are set, all based on the degree, minute and second of the natal Sun. These charts are set in stone at the moment of birth for everyone living on earth. Only re-location will change the angles of these charts, but the planet calculations will be exactly the same for any location.

The only difference, and it’s a big difference: Tropical calculations without precession correction or Sidereal?!

Based on my interpretation of solar returns and Ennead charts, and the precise alignment of Kamala Harris' January 8 Ennead planets with the 20 January 2025 Inaugural chart (as well as and especially her October 2024 solar return ascendant in the degree of Inaugural Moon) I see as Divine Destiny that Kamala Harris was meant to be the next president of the United States.

And if Kamala Harris isn’t our next US president? Well, according to the cyclic math of astrology and the inaugural chart, she was supposed to be!

I have always used the D-9 chart in synastry between people. I believe that enneads could be important in synastry, but haven't used them. But come to think of it I have used solar returns for synastry, and the SR is the first ennead of the solar year.

The significance of enneads is that transits at that particular moment in time are more important than where planets happen to be between the very precise "start times" of enneads. The number nine highlights the navamsa concept in Indian astrology which Donald Bradley pointed out.

thanks for sharing all of this here.. it was complicated to read, but i read slowly and re-read certain passages to understand what you were saying.. as i don't use the system of sub lords off the nakshatras that you are using, that part is all greek to me!! i understand the concept, but haven't worked with it... a couple of times it was confusing due this specific principle you are using..

in your 1117 pm post, you share 2 charts for kamala, but only one for trump... i take it both are the last ennead prior to the jan 20th date, but with kamala you also share a biwheel sharing her relocated chart with the inauguration date.. did you consider a relocated chart for trump to the inauguration date as well?

i know how difficult it is to do all this and to try for impartiality, so take what i am going to say with a grain of salt. you make an important distinction between neptune in the 2 charts... neptune co rules the 8th in trumps chart and it co rules the 10th in harris's chart.. this distinction seems critical to your read of the charts as when you are reading trumps inauguration chart - january 3rd ennead you mention this - "The chart has double Neptunes from the 1st to the 7th house, not good for political ambitions. Neptune on cusp 7 aspects the MC. and co-rules Trump’s natal 8th house." whereas when you read harris's chart nov 30th ennead which has a similar set up - neptune in the 7th - you say this - "(3)Neptune on the descendant (co-ruler of the 10th natal house) is a positive influence as it’s Harris’ natal 10th house lord and is transiting in Jupiter’s star and Rahu’s sub which is powerful on Harris natal ascendant." in other words the different house rulerships and the sublords really change the dynamic according to this system you are practicing..

this leads me to ponder an important duo of planets in kamala harris's chart - moon in aries and mars in cancer - this is a mutual reception or para- i can't remember what it is called in indian astrology... ( parivartana) ... why it is interesting to me is from the vantage point of midpoints.. the moon-mars midpoint is at 1 gemini 12 which is very close to the ascendant degree and nodal axis in harris's chart.. i suspect this midpoint pattern and these 2 planets take on greater importance as a consequence..all of her connections would be under the influence of this combo from the point of view of finding midpoints useful.. as it happens the degree of the nov 30th ennead for harris ascendant axis is exactly square this midpoint as well.. i suspect this particular combo of planets in harris chart has greater importance which is why i wonder how others would interpret this mutual reception dynamic here..

i don't want to talk too much about what i am looking at with regard to the midpoints, but i do continue to believe solar houses are relevant - in other words, using the sun as an ascendant to see where the planets land in relation to the position of the sun.. something about the mars-pluto opposition in vicinity of the nov election date and the inauguration date lining up in the area of harris's sun-mercury is just one of a number of outer planet dynamics that raises more questions then it answers for me...

I just knew you were going to mention certain points from my posts in your message! I have the answers for you. I am most definitely totally partial in my election wishes. After all, I live in Harris territory ( close to San Francisco) here in California. How could I possibly predict a win for Donald Trump?!

I know the issue of "subs" must be confusing to you and everyone else as well. Maybe I'll try to briefly explain them in the post I'm writing about the Ennead. (Not sure when I can finish it, though.) I tried to eliminate mention of subs in my posts, but I needed them to qualify the good or bad action of transits.

I'm very busy until Saturday, and dealing with legal and family issues, but I'll reply to your post as soon as possible.

it is the sub lord saturn which rules the 12th house of the chart not the sun... saturn is in the 12th of that biwheel chart at the bottom of your 1102pm post.. well that whole line is confusing to me still, lol!!

btw, i am reading from a few folks in the san fran area who have the exact opposite view on kamala harris... as an outsider, i have no idea how accurate any of it is!!!

Hi Therese, thanks for explaining the technique you're using; I've only done a little reading on Sidereal astrology, not at all familiar with it but I am curious to know if this Ennead approach is similar to the novenaria (9ths) used in Indian astrology. Zoller had a short lesson on their use in his DMA course, and Abu Ma'shar recommended profecting them, much as you would profect the Ascendant although he did not give an example of their use (so far as I can recall). I know you said Donald Bradley accidentally discovered them but do you think the Enneads could be related to the Indian 9th?

i can't answer for therese, but i think you have that exactly right.. see what therese, or perhaps even martin might chime in.. it is all based off the 9th harmonic which i believe was picked up by the arabic astrologers.. well, i don't know the history, but i think it is definitely connected, as it is coming from the same place of inquiry and interest - harmonics. - and how they can be interpreted..

I'm on a time crunch now, so I hope a brief reply will be satisfactory,

The navamsa chart, so very important in Indian astrology, divides each sign of the zodiac into nine sub signs, beginning with Aries-Aries and running through the entire zodiac. Then the navamsa chart is set up which displays in which signs natal planets fall in the navamsa. You can probably get a better understanding by doing a search for "navamsa" on the Internet. If you understand harmonics, the navamsa is a simple 9th harmonic chart.

The Ennead is a division of TIME, based on the degree, minute and second of the natal Sun. Donald Bradley, I think, meant to emphasize the importance of the numeral NINE in Indian astrology: Nine sub signs in each sign of the zodiac; Nine periods of time in each solar year (40 day each).
