Re: 4 year cycle in the solar revolution

Starting point with the Ascendant note the position of the sign, the following year the MC takes the place of the Ascendant, on the 3rd return of the RS it is the Descendant which takes the place of the AS and on the 4th return of the RS, this FC takes the place of AS/Aquarius for a solar revolution established on the same place during the process of the 4 year cycle!

The first RS, which is the starting point, will serve as a reference to fully understand the progress of the 4-year cycle (1 = AS, 2 = MC, 3 = DS, 4 = FC)

Obviously Ascendant every 4 years does not return to the same place, this is almost normal, but returns to a zone close to stage 1 of the previous cycle.

This is my understanding too. The midheaven in each solar return will advance by three signs in comparison with the previous solar return. This is because of the extra 1/4 day per year (approx. 6 hours) as Martin says. It is my understanding that any relationship between the midheaven and signs rising or setting will be very dependent on the latitude of the birthplace (if this is taken as the place of the SR). So I don't think one can conclude that the descendant will become the MC or that the ascendant will become the IC at a subsequent SR, except in particular circumstances (Cancer and Capricorn on the MC) or places at particular latitudes (e.g. places closer to the equator).

No, if we are talking about solar revolutions, which are cast for the return of the Sun to the same position in the ecliptic (= 1 solar year), then whatever cycles may or may not have been used by the Mayas are nothing to do with the effect you describe. It is simply due to the fact that a solar year comprises 365 whole days and about a quarter day (6 hours). This will make the RAMC advance by about 90 degrees per year (actually a little less if you use the tropical zodiac/year, a little more if you use sidereal). The effects of this on the angles will vary according to place, just as Ed says. After four years, the angles will be nearly (but not exactly) back where you started.

i was curious about this concept that lunesoleil brought up here, but i appreciate the additional technical details that martin and ed have added as well..

i was going to ask the question anyway... astrology is great at devising all sorts of predictive techniques for astrologers to contemplate, but does any of it actually have some meaningful symbolism that works with some type of predictive value for those using it?

so, my question to lunesoleil - what are you getting from it and can you give an example for us to consider?? if so, great.. if not - that is fine too... it becomes yet another predictive astrological technique which may or may not have much of any merit.... add it to the pile, lol..

Thanks to Martin and James for the additional comments. If this is a Mayan technique then it will have been developed and practiced at latitudes near the equator. If you set a chart for the middle latitudes of Guatemala (say around 15-16 degrees north) and then look at subsequent solar returns for the same location, the angles, broadly speaking, behave in the way that you describe.

However this is not an intrinsic feature of solar returns for all latitudes. As one moves further north in latitude, whilst the midheaven moves 1/4 of the way around the zodiac at each subsequent return, the signs occupied by the horizon will not necessarily move forward by three signs. You can test this by putting a chart into any astrological software for a latitude of, say, 57-58 north, and seeing what happens when you run the solar returns.

For the 4 year cycle in Mayan astrology was an example I gave to understand that this cycle was not isolated and that it really existed based on the solar revolution. I tested it on myself.
This is not a consultation technique for a client, if you have not collected all the information.
I'll share a method with you, then you do what you want with it.
Just like, we have a cycle of the moon in 4 sectors
New moon
First district
Full moon
Last quarter
In RS, we have the four angles Ascendant, the beginning MC, highlighting, the DS which is external to ourselves and the FC, the possible outcome or even what must be done.... avenues of reflections.

To return to the Mayan cycle, it is a cycle to know it requires having previously studied it, with the method of José Arguëlle to grasp its content.
This is just a detail, to show that the 4 year cycle is real and has a structure like the geometric figure of the square or if you want the four corners of a house, which is a powerful representation in Human existence.
