Good question, Misho, although the premise seems to be more of a theory perhaps.

I think that there can be a projection effect in relation to your own South Node in the natal chart, we very often approach astrology according to our astrological correspondences.
The South Node, brings back to the past, to traditional astrology, to ancient techniques, combined with the North Node which can come back to regenerate in the present time...

Who says this? Sounds like it's based on the idea that "two negatives make a positive." This is true in math, but that doesn't mean it's true in astrology. We wouldn't normally consider a conjunction of 2 malefics positive, would we? So I'd be extremely skeptical of this claim.

My South node is exactly on my part of Fortune in Aries in the 8th house/so what happened in 2021 when Mars the malefic 8th house ruler. did a 6 month transit with retrogrades over this position, Gulp ,I was not looking forward to that even though Mars is in Sect,
We were locked down the government gave money to people that would could not work because of lock down,I had been self- employed so the Government gave money according to how much tax they collected from me over the past 3 years which was the most ever collected from me & so each time Mars touched the South node I received government money,I cant work out was this South node (past tax collections)
or the part of Fortune. But in either case I was very pleased ith Mars passing here.I received the funds three times each time Mars was over the South node /Fortune natal conjunction.

What I don't get about the Nodal axis is that astrologers are repeating like parrots what they have read in ancient and modern books that "It is karmic".
It doesn't help because, for the most part, nobody knows what the karma means and please, don't repeat what you have read in books.
All our life is karmic to simplify.

The Nodes are the two points in the sky where the Moon and Sun cross paths. They represent points where we establish "meaningful relationships" in our life. Whether you want to see it as karmic is up to you but it doesn't add anything to the debate. Unless you understood what it means. The best explanations I have found about the Karma were not coming from astrologers.
Uranian astrology has a keyword for the Nodes, "connections" and Ptolemy has only one pair of planets for marriage and long-term relationships, the Sun and the Moon. Can you feel the importance of the Nodes behind?

April 4th 1981, I met my wife with a NM in Aries conjunct VE-MA all in the same degree 15 Aries.
Her NN is there and this degree is my 9th Harmonic ASC of relationships.
Connection, relationship is what comes to mind when I think of the Nodal axis.
Karma is not in my luggage of interpretation. Important, significant, cross-road between individuals is more appropriate and more grounded in reality.
Check the rulers of the Nodal axis, you have a better chance to find the motivations behind the relationship.

As far as I know there is no ancient description of the Nodes as karmic. The North Node was considered as beneficial and enhancing, the South Node as unstable and debilitating.

Maybe Martin Gansten is able to clear this question.

How would you see Mars/Saturn over the North Node as opposed to VE-JU over the South Node?

I do not work with midpoints but I would say it depends on the signs and houses the Nodes are in. It is said that Nodes have no light and therefore cannot form an aspect. Only a conjunction matters, but they affect signs and houses they are in. That’s what the astrologer and historian Luís Ribeiro has found out from traditional texts. I myself have not enough experience to add my own observations.

.........yes. and because there are 2 zodiacs, and many different house systems - there is that as well... so many options to choose from, lol..

my thoughts on this topic...

the nodes are connected to the moon - the moons ''nodes'' are what they are called... and what do we know about the moon?? a dead body that reflects light from the sun, and is supposed to rule over a part of our mind - the subjective part, as opposed to mercury - the objective part... cookbook astrology 101.. depending on how that all works out, there are a lot of possibilities for what the nodes might imply in a natal chart.. the condition of the moon would be critical, and perhaps some other chart factors might be too..

i think the nodes are mostly malefic in nature, but astrologers like judith hill, who has spent a lot of time immersed in indian astrology, seems to suggest in her books, how the north node can be beneficial from a materialistic angle and the south node from a spiritual angle.. these are my words, but i think it is the basic gist of it.. that conforms with my own experience to a good extent... you can flick it around as well - south node bad from a materialistic angle, and north node not helpful from a spiritual angle.. don't think about this too much, lol..

i like the idea of the south node connecting to the past, while the north connects to the future... so the connection to the past might imply karma.. given that the moon is supposed to connect to the past, this makes sense to me... the part about the future might have to do with the fact most people are chained to this way of perceiving and processing time... the present is this very thin wedge between the past and the future.... so you have to have a future to go with your past.. if you're a guru and liberated from this perspective of time - there is only this moment - one eternal moment, with all the past and future contained within it, or another way to think about it is that you are free from the burden of the past and the future... you are free!! the dynamic of the nodes can't touch you!!! there is no you, lol..

but most people aren't there yet, so there is that too... they get attached to everything, but especially the past, and base much of their action wanting to get away from it, or to be buried in it, or recreate something from the past, but in the future!! they don't live in the moment, as that is much too difficult!! mediation is not for them, lol..

so what about this idea that misho suggests, giving 2 examples - which i am curious to see - ? the hardship of a malefic on the south node is lessened by being on the south node... i think i have read that somewhere too, but i am sure it is different for every situation.. if that sounds like a cop out - fine.. i don't know if it is or isn't true.... i can only attest to my own experience, or choose to believe, or not what someone else tells me of theirs... or, worse - i could listen to some teacher who i put 100 % faith in, only to be disappointed later, lol..

i had a dog that i was very attached to that had their natal saturn on my south node... i thought it was a great friendship and relationship, but it was a loss when they died age 16.... all dogs die, and i go thru this same feeling and experience with all the dogs that i've had in my life.. i had a women music friend who had there natal mars on my south node.. they were very wacky and i found that although i was drawn to them, it wasn't a supportive or helpful friendship for me on balance.. now that i think of it, my sister has her mars on my south node as well... i love my sister, but my relationship with her comes with challenges..

i once had a fairly long running north node transit to my natal jupiter, and i still think how there was something that came out of it that which was quite negative and challenging for me.. i am still working thru that 8 years later.. so there is that too...

i think astrologers need to consider their own experiences and learn how to stand up on their own feet and come to insights on their own, as opposed to relying on what someone else tells you... that is easier said then done.. of course... good luck with that..

I think theory is good but observation is better and decisive. The problem is that it’s not that easy for one person to check enough charts to find a working rule. Therefore I highly appreciate the tradition and only try to verify or reject it’s rules.
