I am completely new to horary so my question may be wrong as well as my interpretation. But I thought it would be interesting to see what you all say about the difference between this question: How does he feel? and the question on the previous post Will we reconcile? That is if the question even works for Horary. My data is 9:49 am Oct 2 in El Cerrito, Ca. It looks to me as if the feelings are there but not to be acted on. I am represented by Mars (Scorpio rising) he is represented by Venus. So the aspects are the same as the other chart, but the characters are reversed. We are combust in the 11th house or the 5th house for Venus, so again it sounds to me like this person finds me an enjoyable playmate, and friend, that is somewhat hidden from their life. Does that make sense? Also, we met through writing specifically poetry and it seems that that might have something to do with the moon and neptune.

I am not a horary specialist but I must stand up to suggest something. To draw from a personal experience, I would strongly advise not to keep drawing up different charts for pretty much the same question. I say this, because I did the same thing and it got me no where in my studies. I ended up delineating charts with all the wrong answers. I am just now making leaps of progress in horary and getting rid of this practice is one of the first things I did. Reason this was necessary was,

1- If the original chart fits considerations before judgement then it will naturally answer both the questions that you are asking. If the answer leads to "something is holding the action back," It will also lead to what that something is.
2- You might not be doing this, however when I did it, I was usually trying to manipulate the stars to give me the answer I was looking for, because I either a) didn't want to accept the truth, or b) was having difficulty delineating a perfectly good chart because I was inexperienced, or c) was too emotionally involved personally to get my head around what the chart was trying to tell me. Usually it was some combination of these.

Don;t be discouraged though, I know how important the issue is. I would suggest clearing your mind, become a little more logical and methodical in the process. Instead of starting with your life and then finding out where that is shown by the chart and what the answer is, reverse it. Start with your chart, delineate one point, confirm or reject it based on facts and then move on. Let the chart lead you to the answer step by step.

Personally I believe a good place to start would be the description that the asc and its ruler gives. Whithout even thinking about the relationship, does it describe you, your feelings, your looks, your actions? You already mentioned that in either chart you are signified as combust. "The significator of the Querent combust, shows him or her in great fear, and overpowered by some great person". (CA., p.113) Great fear can come in many faces. The fear of being rejected, the fear of change, the fear of the unknown....

The querent in the data you posted here is also showing the querent via combusta at 16 Libra.(see via combusta for explanaition) The last thing I would point out is that the Sun is literrally in between the querent and the quesited, like a barrier and the moon is applying a Trine with the Sun. I would focus on what that aspect is telling me about myself before I went on to what the chart is saying about the relationship. Again though, I am still a student and believe me, have not even a year of horary under my belt. Good luck!

I just have to point out though that your first chart had all the significators in 6th house and now in 11th. I hope I'm not being to harsh in saying that maybe you are 'wishing' things this chart would give more favorable answer?

Hi Borealis, I very much agree with the principle of your advice but I think there has been a misunderstanding here. This is a similar chart to the last one that was put up for discussion, and there?s a similar theme to it; but it is being asked by a different member, so I presume that this is the first chart she drew for her question. I often notice how certain planetary patterns, like this current combustion of Mars and Venus, create an emphasis on questions that in some way share similar themes.

Labalance ? I also agree with Borealis? advice on starting with how this chart describes you and your emotional placement, and building the picture up from there. You mention a reservation over whether this sort of question works in horary ? there is nothing wrong with the question but there are a couple of points to bear in mind.

Firstly, horary is much more effective when people who have some sort of emotional confusion are not asking their own question. Many horary authorities have questioned whether horary can or should be used without the involvement of an independent astrologer and if I could have my way I?d make it a rule in questions like this. Even though you are asking for other people?s opinions here, there is still something about the validity of the moment that is much more reliable when the ritual of officially commissioning an experienced astrologer is involved. Apart from bringing in all the additional experience and sensitivity to the moment that the astrologer has, it also means that you have recognised this concern as something that is weighing heavily enough to fill the focus of your mind. The question ?How does he feel?? could be a very powerful question, or (human nature/curiosity being what it is), it could be one of those emotional ?wanderings? that we experience on a regular basis. It is easy enough to ask a question, but the clearest charts tend to come from people who are so concerned about their situation that they are prepared to put themselves out in someway to have it attended to.

Secondly, traditional astrologers caution against charts where the ruler of the ascendant is combust ?neither question propounded will take, or Querent be regulated? (CA., p.123) ? meaning that it is hard for the person symbolised by the combust planet to see things as clearly as they should because they are in a state of emotional confusion, so they probably won?t take up or really listen to the advice they are offered. If I thought this applied to you I wouldn?t bother mentioning it , but there may be something for you to take out of that because it could suggest that in some way your outlook on the reality of the situation is more clouded than you realise. The other interpretation of combustion is that you are going through a kind of ?cleansing? period of your life now, and you will need to let some new changes in your life take effect at a personal level before developing new relationships.

Having said the above, which are general principles, I don?t disagree at all with what you wrote of the chart yourself. There are some mixed messages in this chart ? the Moon is making positive aspects to the significators in the 11th house of friendships and Jupiter is rising, ruling the 5th house of creativity and pleasure, with the nodal axis falling across the 5th-11th house axis. I do think he likes you exactly as you say, and this could be a creative and enjoyable friendship, but Saturn hovers over the Midheaven as if to say ?keep it real? or you?ll end up disappointed.

That is excellent advice and also, helps me with understanding how to read the chart in general. Originally I wasn't going to post because the two charts were so similar, but it was such an odd coincidence that I thought the small differences would give some real illumination. Thanks again.

Deb, I know that this reply may alienate, but I have to comment on something you said here, about the querent caring enough to put themselves out by getting a professional to look at the chart.

Frankly, the world is full of people like me who would be only too glad to hire a professional, but circumstances prevent. In my case, even though I am a lawyer, I have become 100% physically disabled, and cannot work. Consultations cost big bucks. When one attempts to post on a forum to get a reading, the forum requires that you attempt a reading yourself, and then you get caught up in all the pitfalls you discussed.

In addition, if one sincerely wants to learn, it's necessary to keep at it, over and over again. While this fits nicely with my obsessive personality, I'm sure it "weds" me to certain interpretations, as you have pointd out.

Just wanted to give another perspective.
