Re: Tariff Day

While working on the first post I knew I was missing indications; turns out I missed a huge one, the 5th house (stock market) implications, as I was over focused on the tariff (8th house) and international trade (9th house) aspects of the event.

Looking again at the partile mini-grand trine (Mars in Cancer trine Saturn in Pisces both sextile Uranus in Taurus) I should have considered:
  • Mars in the 11th (legislature) opposition to the 5th (markets) and rulership of the 4th (12th from the 5th) while being in the 8th from the 4th, bringing together suffering (12th) in the markets (5th) as a result of tariff (8th)
  • Mars in his Fall in partile trine to a peregrine Saturn (ruler of the 5th) points to the quickness of harmful affect (both malefics in poor state); as well both planets in mutable signs emphasizes the uncertainty surrounding the issue while Mars, in the Cardinal Solstial sign of Cancer points to a new wrinkle in a recurring action (US tariff's are not new, they have been used by the US many times in the past, notably in 1812, 1847, 1890's, and 1929-30 when the are believed to have exacerbated the Depression.
Also, taking a closer look at the condition of each planet, in and of itself, and the reception/non-reception conditions of the planets using Ibn Ezra's conditions relative to the Sun, (extrapolated for outers), Egyptian terms and sect conditions (halb or hayz):
  • Venus Exalted at 26 Pisces, in Mars' term, oriental (out of sect), retrograde (antagonism and destruction), slow, moving to 1st Station, out of sect in the world (above the earth) but in sect in a feminine quarter and sign = diminished strength until they turn direct; indicating some completion of what they promise
    • as ruler of the 10th, the Exaltation points to a person of high rank (the President), based on sect conditions he's unfamiliar with the norms of the place he occupies tends to be reactive; his actions will be antagonistic and destructive and move to slowly for him (retro); may realize some of what he desires but not all or in the way he wants things to be
    • in Mars' term might expect him to be constrained somewhat by what Mars is determined to (4th by rulership, 9th by rulership and Uranus in 9th by sextile, 5th by opposition, Saturn in 7th by trine, Mercury in 8th by trine)
  • Mercury at 27 Pisces in his Fall (can't receive or if it does, corrupts what it receives), in Mars' term, oriental (masculine), retrograde (antagonism and destruction), slow, moving to 1st Station, in sect (above the earth), out of sect (in feminine sign and quarter) = diminished strength, increases when he turns direct; indicating some completion of what they promise
    • ruler of the 1st it signifies Americans as a whole; it's in much the same shape as the President, they will be slow to act and reactive when they do; in Fall, it indicates worry, distress and hardship particularly over 8th house matters (tariffs, debts, pensions)
    • as co-ruler of the 10th (through Gemini's interception) in the 11th from the 10th most likely points to people who've supported Trump and are part of his Executive body; they are in much the same shape as everyday Americans; worrying about what's happening to the country financially but with little ability to change things
    • in Mars term subject to same constraints as Venus and Venus herself through conjunction
  • Mars at 24 Cancer in his Fall (can't receive or if it does, corrupts what it receives) in Jupiter's term, Sun applying to overcoming square, out of sect (above the earth, feminine sign), in sect by quarter = occidental, diminished power
    • Mars in the 11th acts through the legislature which is being constrained by the overcoming square of the Sun (natural significator of the President), by a debilitated Jupiter term ruler (wealthy elements of the executive branch, its expenses and by ignoring social requirements of the government)
  • Saturn at 24 Pisces, peregrine (antagonism and destruction), in Mars' term and triplicity, 37° from Sun, coming out of its light, in sect (above the earth), out of sect (feminine sign and quarter) = oriental and strong
    • Saturn in the 7th acts through foreign policies, power politics, various nations, conflict who are likely to be antagonistic, destructive, and relatively strong; in Mars' term and triplicity, they will probably be constrained to operating in the arena of the things Mars is determined to and may exhibit friendliness (triplicity) towards US legislators
  • Jupiter at 16 Gemini, in his Detriment, in Venus' term, Sun applying to right sextile, in sect (above the earth, masculine sign, masculine quarter), out of sect (occidental of Sun) = 1/3 strength but feeling comfortable in their positions (hayz)
    • Jupiter in the 10th (executive branch) represents wealthier Americans in the executive, and the country through co-rulership of the 4th (by Sagittarius intercepted there) and partners, foreigners (by ruling the 7th); he doesn't have much strength but is comfortable where he is sitting (hayz); they are probably constrained somewhat by the President's actions, being in Venus' term and in a sextile to the Sun, natural significator of the President
  • Moon at 14 Gemini, in Venus' term, separating sextile Sun = increasing strength
    • the Moon rules the 11th, the legislature, and is with Jupiter in the 10th; they are similarly constrained, perhaps not as comfortable, being out of sect
  • Uranus at 24 Taurus, in Saturn's term, Sun applying to conjunction = 1/3 strength
    • the disruption in international trade may be constrained by partners and foreign nations (Saturn term); will possibly be quelched, 'burned' by the President's own actions (Sun applying to connect to Uranus but still 41° away)
  • Neptune at 0 Aries, in Jupiter's term, USB = some strength
    • Neptune (schemes, fraud, scandals) possibly hatched by the wealthier members of the executive (Jupiter in 10th), and currently hidden (USB) may come to light when Venus and Mercury move into Aries
  • Pluto at 3 Aquarius, in Mercury's term, Stationary turning Retro on May 5 = weakening
    • Pluto is weak and about to turn retro, which Ibn Ezra describes as "like a frightened person, fearing adversities that are coming to him". Given that Pluto is often seen to represent oligarchs ('robber barons') and it sits in Mercury's terms (ruler of the people) and the growing protests, they may have reason to worry; certainly the stock market tanking is taking a large chunk out of their wealth, the tech companies (Aquarius) in particular
Then looking at the configurations:
  • Mars partile trine Saturn both partile sextile Uranus, all 3 have a aspects that fall in the 1st and 5th indicating disruption to the American people and the stock markets swiftly and easily felt
    • While trines and sextiles are considered harmonious, Mars and Saturn are both malefics without dignity in their own or each other's places and neither have any dignity where Uranus sits which may indicate what they seek to accomplish will not be lasting; this is possibly supported by Mars and Saturn being in mutable signs although Uranus in fixed Taurus points to a permanent or at least long lasting disruption in international trade and effecting the US's reputation (conjunct MC)
The markets, in the 3 days after the announcement, dropped almost 10% wiping out trillions of dollars. The S&P 500 took a huge hit

These reciprocal tariffs did not actually kick in until Saturday (for the 10% baseline tariff levelled on around 60 countries) with the higher tariffs set to kick in at 12:01 AM Wednesday morning. So the slide happened on the threat of tariffs. It seems many US (and other) economists, business leaders, and investors did not believe Trump would actually carry through on his threats; the initial slide may be them coming to realize he was serious; the implementation of the 10% tariffs on Saturday drives the point home.

On midnight, Saturday April 5th, Mars had moved to 25 CA 00 to trine Venus who had earlier moved into 25 PI.

Today, Monday, April 7th, Mercury will turn direct at 26 PI and remain there until Wednesday when he will move to back thru 27 PI; so he will essentially be partile conjunct the Venus/Node with all three partile trine transit Mars from now until around 6:36 am Wednesday morning. The thing is, what will happen on Wednesday? Will Trump call off the tariffs? On that date the Transit MC moves into Libra (the other sign ruled by Venus) and oppose Neptune (schemes, scandals).

Venus (L10) doesn't turn direct until Sunday April 13th and she won't pass through 26 PI again until April 22 or enter Aries (her detriment) until sometime on Wednesday, April 30th. So possibly Trump will pause the higher tariffs (once again) on April 9th (or 13th?) to allow for negotiations and maybe, on April 30th, call them off?

Edit: Turns out he did pause the higher reciprocal tariffs on the Wednesday, April 9th but he left the 10% across the board in place as well as the Fentanyl and Steel and Aluminium tariffs he placed on Canada and Mexico earlier. He also bumped China's tariff rate to 145%! (see CBC, USA Today)

Continuted from previous post

At any rate, something unexpected is bound to happen once more as Uranus moves into 26 TA (to partile sextile tariff Venus/Node) on April 14 and remains there until April 22nd when he will move into 27 PI and form a partile trine with tariff Mercury (the people) where Saturn will join them on April 24. Will something happen on those days (8th is also pensions, big losses?) that will lead to a critical change on the 30th as the transit Asc moves into 0 CP to square tariff Neptune (schemes, scandals) and Venus (L10) head into her detriment marking a fall from grace for Trump?

I'm undoubtedly missing/overlooking other key factors in these charts.

AJ, apologies for overlooking your post on the time the executive order was signed. Looking at that chart now, it is very interesting that it highlights the Mercury/Node conjunction with Mercury ruling both the 1st and 10th; perhaps that is foreshadowing the Uranus, Saturn transits hitting Mercury at 27 PI around April 22-24 as a period to watch.

James makes a good point about relating the event chart to earlier source charts, and while I concur that looking at Trump's natal convincingly ties him to events, based on my recent reading of mundane texts, I'm inclined to look at his Inauguration chart and the US Solar Aries Ingress and prior lunation for tweaking out possible timing for the event outcomes i.e. what evidence is there in the source charts that point to not only an important event but also when to expect it but I will leave it for another day.

In regards to other charts to bring in, the Great Conjunction Chart 2020, set for Washington, DC, has the sun, moon, and ascendant (of the exact new moon) from the March 29 solar eclipse falling in the 12th house (of self-undoing), in either zodiac. And Neptune entered Aries right after the solar eclipse.
There was also a somewhat interesting relationship between the end time for Trump's signing of the executive order regarding tariffs and the solar return of the GC 2020 chart, something I started look at and which James was for awhile, too, but I am not experienced enough with those charts yet to see if they prove to be worth looking at (as there can be so many charts to examine!)
(I also look at the navamsas of the great conjunctions in the sidereal zodiac, but I definitely need to learn more about divisional charts. But it did seem to potentially offer a way to look at why certain events connected to the great conjunctions emerge in one place or another, or perhaps another divisional chart would be more meaningful, because change of location begins to show up more strongly in the higher divisional charts.)
Here's the tropical comparison:

Thanks Omphalos.

Like you, I don't have much experience looking at these charts; but, taking a quick look, can see that the Moon at 27 PI falls exactly on the Aries Ingress (see chart in next post) chart's North Node in the 2nd house. And that the event chart's Neptune in the 8th at 0 AR is sextile the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction.

The conjunction chart appears to emphasize the 10th and 1st, with both containing planets in square and the 2nd/8th axis appears to be critical (as they contain the nodal axis). The Aries Ingress has a similar emphasis.

Re: Tariff Day

This is essentially an exercise to see if it might be reasonably possible to identify a critical event and its timing based on the year's Solar Ingress.
Ingress-Tariffs.png Ingress-Tariffs.png Viewed 11006 times 163.04 KiB
Prominent features of the ingress are:
- the 4 planet stellium in the 2nd in opposition to the 8th with the ruler of the 8th being part of the stellium
- the Nodal Axis across the 2nd/8th
- the Minor Grand Trine of Saturn (L1) trine Mars (L10) both sextile Uranus (co-ruler of 1st) in the 3rd conjunct the 4th and partile trine the cusp of the 8th

Looking at the Minor Grand Trine for its possible ramifications:
- Uranus (the focus of the Minor Grand Trine) is partile trine the 8th of foreign debts, tariffs (financial relations, treaties, with foreign nations), and taxes. In the 3rd he indicates a disruptive (Uranus) communication (3rd). The indication of a communication reinforced by his being in the 3rd from Aquarius on the 1st. The connection with foreign nations is reinforced by Uranus' opposition to the 9th of international trade and his square to the 7th of foreign nations.

- Saturn (poverty) rules, and occupies, the 1st of the people. He is peregrine in Pisces conjunct the cusp of the 2nd and Neptune (schemes, illusions). Both planets in Pisces points to worries, possible suffering, due to the state of the nation's, and people's, finances (2nd). The possibility of suffering and worry is reinforced by his rulership of the 12th, and that it will be connected with financial concerns is reinforced by it being in the 2nd from Capricorn on the 12th. His trine to the 9th also determines him to international trade concerns and his opposition to the 7th connects him to foreign nations.

- Mars rules the 10th and 9th by Scorpio on both cusps and co-rules the 2nd through Aries interception there. He is in detriment in Cancer in the 6th of the working classes, civil service, military, social security and in a partile, mitigated inconjunct (opposition) with the 11th of the legislature. As ruler of the 10th he signifies the President. Mars is in the 9th from the 10th, pointing to international trade. His squares fall in the 2nd and 8th.

As mentioned in an earlier post, while sextiles and trines normally are viewed as harmonious, in this case the configuration involves both malefics, each in bad state and connected to harmful houses pointing to difficult events (harmful houses) easily reached (harmonious aspects). The signs involved point to an existing condition (fixed Taurus) being disrupted; not for the first time (Cancer being a solstice sign) and not permanently (mutable Pisces) and also, two of the planets in cadent houses.

The emphasis appears to be on an unexpected disruption in the country's, and peoples, finances (reinforced by the stellium in the 2nd) in connection with foreign nations possibly triggered by the President. Neptune conjunct Saturn indicates the disruption may have a chaotic effect on people's lives and/or may be the result of government, Presidential schemes (Neptune closely trine MC).

And in looking at the event chart being examined:
- the Minor Grand Trine was perfected: Uranus remained at 24 Taurus, Saturn moved into 24 Pisces on March 27, and Mars moved into 24 Cancer on April 2nd, the day of the event with Uranus (the focus of the Minor Grand Trine) in the event chart's 9th of international trade conjunct the MC (President)
- the Ascendant at the time of the event was in Virgo, the sign on the Ingress 8th, with transit Mercury (its ruler) conjunct the Ingress North Node
- the stellium planets were all in the event chart 8th in opposition to the Ingress 2nd
- the nodal axis in the event chart is the reverse of itself in the Ingress chart

Saturn (L1) and Mars (L10) both move to perfect the Minor Grand Trine and world wide economic mayhem, triggered by a presidential announcement on tariffs, results. As well, the government has been battling (Mars) the courts (9th) largely over law suits resulting from their harsh treatment of federal civil servants (6th).

While hindsight is 20/20, don't think it is too much of a stretch to guess the Minor Grand Trine, in this case at least, would produce more harm than good. The timing to the day is about as good as one can get.

Jane,

Your analysis makes sense.
And...
The MC of Trump at 24 Taurus conjunct Uranus right in the middle of the minor trine makes him the centre stage.
And all the planets except for Pluto are contained between Mars and Saturn (a form of besiegement).
I remember Rudhyar saying that the first thing to look at in a chart is the pattern, in the chart or by the aspects. A good indication of where the energy is flowing.

there is 10 minutes difference in the mars position at 24 cancer retro in the inauguration chart and the event chart that jane shared from april 2nd where it is 24 degrees tropical zodiac cancer direct..

i think these are coincidences and nothing more... astrologers are very good at making up stuff after the fact.. very few seem able to make predictions in advance as that is much more difficult to do..

Hi Ouranos, yes, transit Uranus on Trump's MC does appear to accurately represent his being at the centre of things. The besiegement idea is interesting; Pluto's square falls in the middle of it, at 3 TA, wonder if future transits across that point will signal a 'break' in the action.

Hi James, the Ingress Mars was at 20 CA, and Ingress Saturn was at 23 PI; it was the movement of those two into 24 degrees CA and PI to perfect the minor grand trine with Uranus on April 2, the day of Trump's announcement, that was interesting. I don't think it was a coincidence. A number of other events occurred on the same day: Russian missile strikes on Kharkiv and Kryvi, Israeli air force strike on Syria; US deployment of B-2 stealth bombers to Diego Garcia, Myanmar government declaring a ceasefire, uncovering of an ancient Roman mass grave in Vienna; two buses crashed head on in India; a Russian jet crashed due to technical difficulties. All of which have a Mars flavour. Be interesting to look at the Ingress charts for the areas involved and see how the minor grand trine interacts with them.
astrologers are very good at making up stuff after the fact..
James, did I say something insulting or dismissive of you at some point? If so, I sincerely apologize; that never was, or is, my intent when I respond to another's post; I'm afraid I'm an Aries (Scorpio rising) so tact is not my strong suit, I often rush in and step on people's toes without meaning to.
very few seem able to make predictions in advance as that is much more difficult to do..
That was the whole point of the exercise, to see how the two charts connected and try to identify what elements of the interaction might help in understanding timing when looking at other charts.

The cusp of the 8th is also the 2nd of China with Saturn on the cusp.
Accentuated by the current waxing square in the JU-SA cycle

This is MO-AS of China (1949 chart below)
JU-SA cycle started there.
Trump swearing for office also, SU-PL conjunction.

What's next
April 26th, MA in opposition to PL
Early May, MA completing its synodic cycle in Leo
June solstice, JU square SA squaring the Eclipse of March while the SU is conjunct JU, we should see a respite, a ceasefire in the tariff.
And the Solstice will be at the bendings of the Nodal axis. What started at the Eclipse will be assimilated, symbolically.

Hi Ouranos ... wonder if he might call them all off on that date? Or perhaps Congress will. Some Republicans are beginning to speak up about the need for Congress to take back the power to set tariffs. The Mars-Pluto opposition could easily be the start of a fight between Wall Street and the legislature.
