It doesn't necessarily mean a flat 'no'; as always there are mitigating factors. It depends on whether the moon is applying or separating, whether there is reception, etc.., but even if applying with reception it usually means that it's possible, but either won't come easily ('with much argument and ado', Lilly says, or something like that), or may not be very good for the people involved even if it does happen.

The only references I can find refer to significators in opposition, which you seem to be talking about. The situation I am referring to is when the moon is not a significator. Are you actuallu stating that any opposition to significators means a "no"

The Moon is always a significator, particularly as co-significator of the querent. It is always crucial in horary charts. The comment by archergirl on Lilly was, I beleve, referring to his definition of the aspects, which you will find beginning (I think) on page 125 of CA. He says that he had rarely seen anything brought to perfection by way of an opposition without much difficulty. But, as archergirl pointed out, oppositions do not always mean a flat out no. However, Lilly warns that, if you do get the thing asked for, by way of reception or some such thing, it may well end up that you wish you hadn't.

Thanks, Sue, but I can't seem to wrap my head around this particular situation. I am not relying on the opposition to perfect anything-it's just there-opposing out of the 5th house. If it were supposed to represent me, it wouldn't make any sense as I am not opposed to communication in this case, but am looking forward to it. It must signify someone else who doesn't want information to be exchanged, perhaps a child. I will remember your remarks for other charts, though. Thanks.

Hi Moondance,

I was taught that opposition means the thing can be accomplished but you will have cause to regret it, if the main significators are involved.

To figure out who or what the Moon represents, look to the house with Cancer on the cusp.
