Re: A Learned Astronomical Discourse of the Judgement of Nativities by Auger Ferrier, trans. by John Kelway 13 by Ouranos Martin, Let's deconstruct the theory of Bezza on Profections with an example. The example is Auguste Rodin with his Solar Return in 1916 and for the Profected ASC, the day of his marriage January 29, 2017 taken from the book of Danièle Jay 'Pour une astrologie de l'événement', p.139 to 147. I am skipping the details of the calculations given by Jay here as the formula is well explained on the website link of Bezza. Translation from French to English (ChatGPT) "Most astrologers claim that a profection consists of advancing the Ascendant by 30 degrees of the ecliptic per year, in the order of the zodiac signs, with the Ascendant thus completing a full circle of the zodiac in a regular twelve-year cycle. However, in the reality of the local sphere, the degrees ‘rise’ successively toward the eastern horizon and then toward the culmination, at varying speeds depending on whether the signs are of short or long ascension. The signs do not move 30 degrees of ecliptic per year; instead, they ‘rise’ each year by 30 degrees of the celestial equator, which corresponds to the two temporal hours of a Placidus house." (What Ibn Ezra calls 'secundum domos' in The Book of Reasons) "At the age of 76, Rodin married Rose on January 29, 1917, just fifteen days before death took her on February 14, 1917, “as he pledged her his fidelity after fifty years of inconstancy." "The profected Ascendant space for the year of the marriage thus extends, on the ecliptic, from 15° Gemini 56′ to 6° Cancer 04′ (following the calculations of Bezza). This space, spanning 20 degrees and 10 minutes on the ecliptic, lies almost entirely within the natal fifth house, the house of Venus’s joy. It contains both the natal Moon, ruler of the seventh house of marriage, and the annual Moon, thus making the luminary—the traditional significator of unions in a man’s chart— “the privileged interpreter of the year” (Bezza), a privilege shared by Mercury, ruler of the space through Gemini, and thus ruler of the year (chronocrator)." "Now, Mercury, more intellectual than sentimental, is, in Rodin’s nativity, invisible, conjoined with Venus but also with Saturn, and, finally, configured to Mars by an in mundo square. Saturn and Mars will reappear at the level of the directions; Venus, in fact, has just reached the square of Saturn in zodiaco (within a term of Mars). Mars is about to reach the in mundo opposition to Venus (March 17, 1917), and Mercury itself the in mundo square to the Daimon (March 14, 1917). The influence of the two malefics does not particularly favor a marriage, all the more so as Mercury is also invisible in the solar return chart of the year. It is also connected to Saturn by an in mundo trine. "On her side, while the natal Moon receives the opposition of Venus and Saturn, as well as the square of Mars, the Moon of the SR receives the in mundo trine of Venus, but also the opposition of Mars. Furthermore, the annual Ascendant falls within the natal seventh house, while Jupiter—exalted ruler of that natal seventh house—appears on the annual Midheaven, clearly reflecting the native’s concerns during that year." "But we would like to know the exact position of Rodin’s profected AS within its profection space on the very day of the marriage. As we have seen, this space of 20 degrees and 10 minutes of the ecliptic is traversed by the AS over the course of a year (365 days). On January 29, 1917, the day of the wedding, seventy-eight days had passed since his birthday on November 12, 1916, corresponding to 4 degrees and 30 minutes (20°10′ × 78 / 365). If we add these 4 degrees and 30 minutes to the starting point of the space at 15° Gemini 56′, we find the exact position of the profected Ascendant on January 29, 1917: 20° Gemini 26′." "This is the point partile opposite the natal Saturn, located at 20° Sagittarius 19′! A Saturn that, in the nativity, respects its hairesis—by sect, by hemisphere, by zodiacal sign—a Saturn that is omnipresent, both in the natal chart and in the solar return of the year. The great malefic, by nature ill-disposed toward unions, is also the ruler of the AS. Rodin himself stands in opposition to his own profected AS, which is also afflicted by a square from natal Mars at 19° Virgo 17′… Is he seeking forgiveness for his many transgressions? Is he trying to free himself from a sense of guilt toward Rose? It is true that the natal Lot of Marriage (22° Capricorn 42′) is conjoined both to the natal Ascendant and to the annual North Node, emphasizing the necessity of ending his bachelorhood that year. Yet the devastating influence of the two malefics looms over this marriage, now threatened—one whose lifespan would not exceed sixteen days, as it would be brought to a close by Rose’s death." Re: A Learned Astronomical Discourse of the Judgement of Nativities by Auger Ferrier, trans. by John Kelway 14 by Martin Gansten Yes, I do understand Bezza's preferred methodology: it is essentially primary directions, just using a different equation of time. Was there a particular point you wanted to make? Incidentally, if I wanted to demonstrate the predictive value of a technique with claims to great exactitude, I wouldn't choose a chart with a 12 noon birth time... https://astrology.martingansten.com/ Quote Sun Jun 15, 2025 7:23 pm
Re: A Learned Astronomical Discourse of the Judgement of Nativities by Auger Ferrier, trans. by John Kelway 15 by Ouranos Martin, Yes, essentially she uses Profections as an extension of PDs. In the local sphere. In her books, she does note when she rectifies a chart. She works with the software Aureas, more popular in Europe, which has a module to rectify a chart based on Primary Directions. I have tested their Demo version and it has many options that I haven't seen elsewhere. Maybe the next generation of softwares will work with AI. I have seen the project that Patrick Watson and Nick Dagan Best are working on, Nechepso. No need to be a programmer, you are talking to your software, which is a way around spreadsheets and a powerful research tool. Nechepso is designed to be a comprehensive astrology platform that combines ancient techniques with modern technology. It aims to provide astrologers with tools to explore Hellenistic astrology and other methodologies, going beyond the capabilities of existing software. The software will feature dynamic interpretations, pattern recognition, and visualization options, all built with AI to provide in-depth astrological analysis. Ouranos Blessings!
