So, here's my mercury retrograde tale. I had my absolute dream job with the military, but, as the military often does, at the last minute they changed my job to something else. Now instead of prosecuting I will be doing a mixed bag legal practice with a lot of physical evaluation boards, representing disabled servicemembers. So, I am very...very nervous about this change, as it's unlike anything I've done and I really wanted to be a prosecutor. I asked "Will the job turn out ok?" on 20 November 2006, 1:01 pm Newport RI.

Some interesting things with the chart: Uranus is in the first house in very tight conjunction with the ascendant (when I was trying to pick a job several months ago and picked prosecution over a legal assistance slot, uranus was opposed my significator). Though Uranus doesn't play in horary all that much, I take the very close conjunction to perhaps suggest that this unexpected change is something I need and will grow from.

The personal significator and significator of the tenth house (career) is the same...Jupiter, which is in its sign and house of rulership (Sag, 9th) this fits in with the legal nature of the job. So Jupiter is fairly strong here. However, it is combust, suggesting that perhaps the job and my personal thoughts are overwhelmed by my fears about changing over here. The sun is ruler of the sixth house and saturn is hanging out there too, squaring the significators. However, the significators are stronger than saturn which is in detriment. I'm taking this to mean that there will be difficulty in the routine parts of getting to work and taking on the responsibilities, but ultimately they will advance the career, especially as the square is a separating one.

On a final note, one thing I very much want out of this job is travel, and with both benefics and the sun in the ninth, I take this as a very good omen.

Any one else want to weigh in? Especially curious about the neptune role in the T square.

oh, one other thing to note: moon, co-significator of me and ruler of the fifth house is very late in scorpio but will complete a conjunction to the sun before leaving the sign. However in order to do that, it must cross into the ninth. Would you say that represents the physical reality of my moving to take this job, or realtes more to the long distance travel I'm hoping for?

oops...jupiter is in fact not in sag, it's peregrine in scorpio but ABOUT to enter sag. So perhaps this reflects the pessimistic attitude about the situation right now, but a change for the better is about to take place with jupiter's crossing into its sign of rulership

Jupiter Crossing into Sag, does indeed seem to me to suggest a positive change, fingers crossed.

Using traditional Regiomontanus houses, I get all the significators in the 8th, combust, rather than the 9th; the 8th being an unfortunate house. The moon is applying to the Sun for the New Moon; Lilly says that New Moons are the most troublesome of combust planets; that the Moon is also in fall can't be good news either. I don't want to put too negative of a spin on it, but I suspect the job won't turn out the way you'd like; with Uranus on the ascendant (in orb with Part of Fortune) it suggests suddenly changing fortunes; perhaps the job will change again! With your significator imminently changing to its sign of strength you may get something better coming up...

well, it's certainly not a job I want. Could your take be indicative of a current state (being very uinhappy about a job) changing soon into a better one as the planets cross over into the ninth?

I suppose we could extrapolate that things will change, probably suddenly, with Uranus on the Ascendant. Your original question was, 'will the job turn out ok', and the picture the chart gives is, 'not really'. The problem with things changing for the better, as I see it, is that the moon applies to conjunction with the Sun, which will burn it up. The Sun then conjuncts Jupiter in the very last degrees of Scorpio, just pipping Jupiter to the post to reach Sagittarius first. Jupiter eventually reaches dignity in Sadge, but will still be combust, although in separating aspect. Venus in the 9th might indicate some 'help' of some sort from a female (colleague?); the moon will reach her soon, but both will still be under the Beams and thus weakened. Jupiter has to pass through a trial by fire (no pun intended) first. I don't wonder whether you'll quit this job suddenly as Jupiter applies by square to that Uranus sitting on the Ascendant, probably after you've gotten completely fed up. That Jupiter reaches the 9th is somewhat less important than the shape Jupiter is in when he reaches it; the Sun is still well in sight so he might not be as strong as he'd like.

unfortunately, due to the nature of the job and the contract involved, quitting is not an option for at least 4 years. So getting fed up and leaving is simply not a possibility.

Sorry to hear that! I'd look to the Venus in the 9th for some assistance, as she is in the sign of your significator. You may find a female friend or ally who aids you in some way.

Having gone to lunch and pondered this a little more, perhaps the Uranus-Jupiter square can be looked at in a positive light. Uranus is in the sign of Jupiter's rulership (Pisces) so perhaps this is an indication that, although the job won't be ideal initially, there will be some freedom of scope for you. Squares aren't necessarily bad things but they do indicate a certain amount of difficulty or challenge. Venus in the 9th also exchanges with Uranus by exaltation, so maybe we can look at this as being the female ally you find (perhaps your supervisor, even...?) will be amenable to you having greater independence or choice or something...there's a silver lining to every cloud...
