I don't think I've ever seen such a strongly Uranian chart with Sun in Aquarius conjunct Uranus (1 degree) and in 11th House. A statement repeated 3 times, like this, becomes almost a certainty in the life and gives this person a strong identification with Promethean themes. He is in direct contact with "the mind of God", universal truth, and he is a channel for modern, progressive, futuristic, democratic ideas. He is an advocate for humanity. In addition, if you allow Uranus rulership over Aquarius, this chart has Uranus as the Sole Dispositor. That's 4 times! He is an avatar for the New Age. Being so clearly Promethean, he is motivated and finds his purpose (Sun) by finding ways to bring the inspiration and universal knowledge, to which he has such remarkable access thru his Stellium, to his fellow man in order to raise consciousness. In the myth Prometheus' act is met with punishment from Zeus for the theft of the god's fire. But here Jupiter supports the Promethean agenda by participating in the Stellium in Aquarius with the suggestion that there need not be the disruption, extremism, rebellion or fanaticism that sometimes is the signature of such a powerful Uranus.

With Mercury conjunct Jupiter also in Aquarius in the 12th house, he sees the big picture and has a powerfully philosophical mind, interested in things mystical. Saturn in the 3rd (Mercury's house) and in Gemini (Mercury's sign) trine to Mercury (triple link Saturn to Mercury) in the 12th lends precision and discipline to his intellect and helps counteract any fuzzy thinking that may result from Jupiter going over the top or getting sloppy as he is inclined to do. With Merury in 12th, he needs time alone to think.

The Moon is FULL (2 degrees) in Leo in 5th house and opposed to the Stellium in Aquarius to form a Fanhandle configuration. There is a strong element of play and creative expression of the feelings to this Moon. He loves children and they love him back.

The Moon in Leo is disposed by Sun. Simultaneously it's in the 5th house, Leo?s natural house and opposed to the Sun. Here is another triple linking, this time the Moon to the Sun, by Sign, House and Aspect. The Sun gives the Moon a proud, honorable, generous, honest, high-minded, candid, warm-hearted, faithful and somewhat dramatic emotional nature.

Aleister Crowley, ghost-writing as Evangeline Adams, says of the Moon in Leo: ?The Sun tends to diminish both her coldness and her instability and to redeem her from that darkness which is one of her drawbacks. While stronger in Cancer, where she is almost unmodified, the Moon is really better in Leo because her own nature is so imperfect that modifications of some kind are necessary before we can consider her entirely excellent.?

And Liz Greene says: "The Moon in Fire needs a sense of meaning, an imaginative connection with a deeper or higher pattern. Moon in Fire needs to feel special and a child of the gods. There is an instinctual urge to infuse life with a mythic or archetypal dimension, so that one can feel part of something larger and more significant than the mundane world."

I think there is much more meat in the Moon opposed to all that Aquarius and being the point focus in the Fanhandle. The chart is a See Saw with most of the energy by Sign, House and Aspect moving along an opposition between the Moon and the Stellium in Aquarius and between the 5th and the 11th houses. With the Sun and the Moon, the Lights in close opposition, the Full Moon is a major player in this chart. The emphasis ultimately seems to be given to the will and purpose of the Sun and the Promethean agenda since the Sun disposes of the Leo Moon and the Stellium has such weight and impact. But the Moon and the Northern hemisphere provide the other required pole of the magnet, the other pole of the Fanhandle and the other pole of the See Saw.

Something else remarkable is Pluto is exactly conjunct the IC. There is the suggestion of something dangerous lurking below which could be overwhelming, like living beside a volcano but there is also the suggestion of the phoenix rising out of the ashes.

There is an indication of a chronic anxiety in the opposition between Moon and Uranus; a tug-o-war between the need for relationship and closeness and the need for independence. Noel Tyl described this as a freedom-closeness dilemma. The Sun and Uranus are also inimical to each other, since they rule opposite signs. So the Sun conjunct Uranus places these opposites in unison, like the black and white sphinxes that pull the Chariot in the Tarot with all the power the harnessing of those opposites implies. Then the opposition of Moon (in the Sun's sign) to the Solar conjunction to Uranus restates the need to integrate of those opposites: the needs of the self as a special child of god with an imaginative connection to the archetypal dimension in a universe rich with meaning and infused with spirit, a concern of the Moon in Leo, as opposed to the needs of the group and of humanity at large which are the concern of the Sun-Uranus in Aquarius in the 11th. One way to integration could be that this man's personal needs are met by serving the larger needs of the group in the same way that ?the house over which a planet rules serves the purposes of the house in which the planet stands.? The opposition from Venus to Saturn-Pluto very near the parental axis and Pluto exactly at the Nadir feels like a profound sadness with respect to parental matters and a reluctance to trust as a result. With Pluto on the IC there is the suggestion of something dangerous lurking below which could be overwhelming. It is like living beside a volcano. Accompanying that threat is the theme of the phoenix rising out of the ashes.

Sasportas says Jupiter in 12 has a deep faith in the benevolence of life . . . and can be a channel through which inspiration and healing flow. That healing may be a balm for the Venus-Saturn/Pluto opposition especially with the Jupiter-Mercury conjunction, with it?s philosophical, mystical understanding of life, making trines and sextiles to the ends of that difficult opposition. The Sextile from Jupiter to Venus in Sagittarius, Jupiter?s sign as well as Jupiter?s house (9th) is another example of triple restatement of a theme.

This chart is remarkable for the number of occurrences of restatement of major themes which suggests that this Self insists on it?s major themes by stating them three times. There is not any ambivalence here.

Tom,

Is this an exact or an approximate birth time? If he were born a few minutes earlier, Jupiter would rule the ASC and MC, which would give a very different feel for the chart.

Hi Tony,

The source lists the chart as exact, but I'm always supicious of on the hour birth times. I'm simply not good enough at rectifying a chart to see if another time is better. I think the ASC - MC fits, but Jupiter ruling would fit as well to a point. I haven't looked at the chart with that possibility in mind. Lets use it as exact.

Please stop me if I am talking too much. I am excited about finding your site and the opportunity you provide to discuss these kinds of matters.

I have to retract what I said regarding the Moon being almost in 6th and Sun-Uranus being almost in 12th. I had a miscalculation which gave me a different view. Looking at the correct chart and Placidus Houses and which exactly matches your "givens" this man's Moon is securely in the 5th and his Sun-Uranus, likewise, are in the 11th. That's also true according to Equal and Koch houses. Moon-Sun move to 6th-12th using Campanus and Regiomontanus systems. All the house systems with no agreement like you would expect in a scientific community, has always been a criticism of astrology from my POV. Robert Hand uses Equal Houses I hear and others use Koch but most of the other astrologers I admire use Placidus so I do too. Imagine if chemists couldn't agree on one periodic chart.

Also remarkable is the element imbalance. He is all AIR and FIRE with an EARTH void and only the outer planets, Neptune, Pluto, Chiron in water. He is adept at thinking and intuition. He responds to life with an objective mind, ethical principles and an enterprising spirit. But he is sometimes unaware of his feelings and they are difficult to express. This makes the feelings at times overwhelming. The feelings are not weak by any standard. In fact he has great emotional depth and richness but he does not have conscious access to his feelings in order to navigate the world. With a normal feeling function you respond to the world and make decisions based on the feelings you have. Without any personal planets in water the feelings just happen to you. Without any warning you may burst into tears or joy but you don't use your feelings to make decisions.

Without any earth he has troubles with ordinary human needs. The fire gives a rich imagination to his powerful intellect to produce a symbolic thinker, an astrologer, a poet. Because his mind is excellent and his intuitive and imaginative abilities are also strong he may escape into abstract thought and so create an even greater distance from his personal needs and feelings as well as his physical life. He devalues the importance of ordinary life and the needs of the body. He probably doesn't see the doctor or dentist on a regular basis. His struggle is to find a way to manifest his intellect and imagination in the real world and not fritter it away in idle fantasy. He needs to make better friends with the earth and his body. Marie Louise Von Franz recommends the Puer get a job. That is over-simplistic but her idea is to ground the spiritually seeking Puer in the practical considerations of the world so the spirit does not fly too close to the sun, like Icarus, and end up crashing in the sea and drowning. The challenge then becomes not to go too far and crush the Puer?s spirit. You don't want to clip the wings of the Puer because it is his nature to soar. At the same time you want him to come down to the ground once in a while at least and be a little practical. Some balance must be found between the inclination to fly and the Senex' inclination to take care of business here on earth. The Puer must be brought into balance with his opposite, the Senex, in the same way you must strive to embrace both sides of an opposition without opting for one end and disowning the other.

Tom,

With planets close to the angles, especially to the meridian axis, initial recitification is not so daunting. When I see a chart like this one with the 9 AM time that might be inexact, I always begin by asking the native whether events occurred in early life that correcspond to the nature of the planets that will conjoin the meridian by primary direction.

Using the 9 AM time, I get primary directed

MC oppose Pluto in June-July 1915, and
MC oppose Saturn in April-May 1920.

Modern astrologers associate Pluto with dramatic changes and forces beyond the control of the native. Donna Cunningham found Pluto angular in cases of trauma and abuse. Debi Kempton Smith (in Secrets from a Stargazer's Notebook) noted that a 4th house Pluto is common in charts of people who relocate to foreign countries. So I would begin by asking this native whether there were dramatic and stressful changes or Plutonian upheaval in his home environment around the summer of 1915. The native is in the first year of life.

Saturn near the IC, with Saturn ruling the 10th house = mother suggests loss or separation from the mother around mid-1920. The reasoning is similar to what I wrote in analyzing Mystery chart #1 (Arthur Ashe). So I would ask the native whether there was a loss of a parental or maternal figure or a similar Saturnian event in 1920. With Saturn ruling the 11th and occupying the 3rd, this could be also the loss of a friend or sibling. The native is now 5 years old.

If the native answered in the affirmative, I would proceed to analyze the chart. If such events occurred but with different timing, I would adjust the birth time accoridingly and ask for other major events to check the rectification. If nothing of the nature of Pluto and Saturn involving 4th house matters occurred in childhood, I would assume that the birth time is inaccurate and ask the native to double check.

The next significant primary direction occurs in 1922 with MC conjunct Venus (direct) in January and Venus conjunct MC (converse) in August, 1922. The native is 7 years old at this time. Venus disposed by Jupiter (which it sextiles) suggests a favorable or happy event. The 9th house placement could mean a pleasant journey, or maybe some educational opportunity. The affliction of Venus by Saturn does carry some adversity with it as well. In addition Jupiter (which disposes Venus) occupies the 12th and Venus rules the 12th by exaltation. This primary direction of MC to Venus in 1922 then is a mixed bag, generally favorable since the two benefics are involved but also carrying some sorrow or loss because Saturn opposes Venus, which rules the 12th.

I have to stop here for now but will try to post more as time permits.

Hi Tony,

I"m your client. Although I wasn't really born in 1915 - neither were my parents.

MC oppose Pluto in June-July 1915, and
MC oppose Saturn in April-May 1920.
In August of 1915 my family was forced to flee Europe due to the War. We relocated in the US. My mother is an American.

On October 21, 1921, my mother died from stomach cancer. However, she was diagnosed with the disease in 1920 when my family was considering a return to Europe.

Hi Folks,

Temperament might have some bearing on the question of the birth time, especially if one humour is in the extreme. Using the 9am time, I find a strong choleric temperament. Slightly earlier gives a Pisces ascendant and a dramatic change in temperament to phlegmatic/sanguine.

Alex

I just realized, looking deeper into your site, that you really prefer midieval or traditional techniques to modern practices. My background is in modern practices so I should have just kept quiet. Now I know why I received no feedback or discussion. I'll just lurk for a while until I see how this works.

Alex and Tom,

The 9 AM time certainly seems to produce accurate hits for major life events in childhood. If I were rectifying the chart, I might move the MC a tiny bit to get the IC/Pluto conjunction by primary direction to occur in August, but that would involve less than a minute (I haven't done the calculations yet). On the other hand, the June-July time may be accurate and the family move may have been the culmination of events that occurred earlier in the summer. In that case the time may be quite exact.

Like Alex I was concerned that a birthtime just 4 minutes earler would have changed the ASC and MC, and thus have significantly changed the temperament since the rulers of the angles would all be different. Given the events and dates that Tom listed, a difference of 4 minutes from the stated time does not make sense astrologically. In other words, I think we are working with a valid chart.

Hi Libra,

Skyscript welcomes all kinds of astrology, but it is true we attract more traditional minded folk than others, and this is the traditional forum. I thought your posts were well done and well informed, and lacked a lot of the new agey stuff I particularly dislike. ALso you'
re really close and I didn't want to give that much away. Frankly you've forced me to rethink Aquarius a bit. I've responded more to Tony because he is using primary directions and I have an interest in that technique and I thought by adding what I added it would help both of us refine what we do know. And I'm trying to help; Tony, I think, does the calculations "by hand" I have a computer program. Lurk if you prefer, but be assured your work is welcome - although you won't see much Chiron around here, and I occasionally make sarcastic remarks about modern astrology, but it isn't personal - it's the modern astrology that annoys, not the astrologer. Yours wasn't annoying though.

Tony:

I tried monkeying with both the birth time and the various keys and could not get the first year of life move and the death of the mother to have tight hits with one birth time and one key. In fact in order to get a precise hit on the death I had to adjust the birth time by about ten minutes and then nothing else worked. There are other events in the life that coincide nicely with the primaries. Kolev says we need as much as a six month fudge factor for many events, even though others will be right on time. I think thats true.

Also we're working mostly with directions to angles. There are other primary directions that I can do on the computer and I'll see if they give us more insight. Directions to the angles seem best for rectification.

After the New Year I'm going to use primary directions to attempt to rectify the birth chart of one of my favorite historical characters, Wyatt Earp, March 19, 1848, Monmouth Illinios, time unknown. Maybe we should do it on list.
