new employment

:) Hi

Having recently given up my well salaried but extremely stressful employment, I approached a former employer for work. I am kind of 'sitting off' at the moment and considering my options and needing to recuperate but I would like to get back into the above work again. It was teaching Performing Arts at local FE college and it would be such a pleasant job compared to that which I have just left.

My former employer indicated that there may be some work available and advised me to contact the Curriculum Manager etc - it's sounding quite hopeful. The person I spoke to has said that she will put in a good word for me also as we worked together in the past.

I asked the question 'Will I get some teaching hours here?' on March 2nd at 6.11pm Liverpool, England. Mercury representing me is in the sixth house which is apt but also rules the MC - I wasn't sure whether to use the sixth or tenth house here. The Moon also representing me, is in the twelfth house and again describes my position at the moment. Mercury is moving away from an opposition with Saturn which rules the sixth house of work. I'm not sure if this represents my past employment situation as Saturnian which it very much was.

Mercury makes an aspect to Venus in the eighth house (not sure what this is - I think it's a semi square. I'm not sure if this is even used in horary - I'm looking at the chart on Astrodienst). However, Venus trines Saturn in the eleventh house and also Jupiter in the fourth house (the end of the matter) which is positive? Finally, Mercury is 1 degree away from an opposition with the moon so could this mean that employment is coming to me in about 1 month? I say a month because Mercury is in a cadent house. However, Mercury is retrograde so I'm note sure how this works out. Maybe I'm just being over optimistic here!

I realise that my interpretation could be very simplistic and I have overlooked stuff but I am learning more as I go!

Thanks for any comments

Mia

:) Hello

Could I ask if someone could please tell me if the Moon void of course in this chart? Someone has said it is but I thought it didn't go void of course until around half an hour later?

Many thanks
Mia

Hi Mia,

Sorry, I've been meaning to get around to this chart but one thing or another got in the way!

In your chart the moon is most definitely VOC. It is posited at 28 deg 18 Leo; its last aspect was to Mercury, your ruler which at the time of the chart was 27 deg 04 Aquarius.

It makes no other aspects to any planets before changing signs (I don't include Pluto in this as it is an outer planet).

So it looks in essence like 'nothing will come' of the question. :-?

:' Thanks for that Gunhilde - very much appreciated. Oh well, I'll try something else in my job search but it's good to know anyway. Do you use a table or something to find out when the moon is void of course? I looked on several sites and was a little uncertain as to whether it was or not, the information seemed to be conflicting and not very clear or maybe it was just me not understanding it properly!

Many thanks and kind regards
Mia

Hi Mia,

VOC moons are actually fairly simple to figure out without a table; but of course there's always disagreement on what makes a moon VOC in the first place! One of the first things you do in a chart is look at the Moon, its sign, and the number of degrees. You then compare these degrees to the degrees of all the other planets in the chart (and my personal preference is to ignore the outer planets at first, unless they are screaming 'Look at me!', on an angle or something).

In your chart, the Moon has already completed its last aspect to any of the major planets in the chart, most especially the planets representing the significators of your questions, and has separated from the other significators. I think the 'official' separation from an aspect is something like 6 arcminutes; your moon is well past that number. A moon can be VOC at any degree, but it's more often seen, I believe, when it's in the very late degrees of a sign, which I feel means there's something about the situation that is in flux. Your significator, Mercury, is also retrograde in the chart; you may find that circumstances change around you (or you change your mind) as you are soon to go direct again.

Some will then argue that the Moon *isn't* VOC if it immediately applies to another planet from the beginning of the next sign (in your Moon's case, it would be from the first degrees of Virgo). My *personal* view is that if a planet has completed all its aspects from a particular sign, it's VOC, and if it is applying after it changes signs, then something in the situation of the chart must also change before whatever-it-is can manifest. Again, this is a personal view and you have to make up your own mind through testing your charts! I'm not yet 100% sure myself, as I am still very much a student, but I'll go with what is tried and tested and then change my mind later on if experience proves it wrong! :D

Hope this helps!

:D Again Gunhilde

Thanks for replying and explaining the void of course moon for me - I think I was making it more complicated than it is! However, like other aspects of astrology, there sometimes isn't a consensus regarding what's what eh. What you say about the Moon changing signs and something having to change before whatever comes about if this is the case - makes sense - I will look out for that.

Do you ever used fixed stars in your judgements? And if so, how accurate do you think these are? They look quite interesting but I would imagine that they don't stand on their own and that other things would have to be taken into account also.

Best wishes and kind regards
Mia

Hi Mia,

I'm really happy to help as I find I learn the most when I explain the few things I know to someone else! :D

I do use fixed stars, although inconsistently; I like to think of them as the sprinkles you put on top of the frosting on the cake. Many would agree that certain fixed stars pack more 'oomph' than others: Algol, especially, and Spica, Sirius, Regulus, Aldebaran, Antares, a few others. The key is, I think, that the significator has to be conjunct the star within a *very tight orb*, less than three degrees, for it to work properly. I don't think the experts count applying trines or sextiles; only conjunctions.

I know that Algol works. Once I did a chart for a very tempestuous, obsessive extra-marital love affair between two people who 'couldn't live with or without' one another. The Moon in the chart was directly conjunct Algol in the 5th house, applying with strong reception from the other significators in the 7th. This, clearly, was a love affair where the couple had 'lost their heads'. I think it turned out that they lived 'without' one another...

My feeling is that most people use them to fill in a chart, lend it extra colour, rather than as explanations in themselves. Fixed stars conjunct the significators and the angles should be paid attention to, if they lend a deeper understanding or meaning to the other aspects in the chart.

That's my two-penneth worth, at least!

Best wishes,
Gunhilde

Hi Gunhilde and Mia,

Consider Deb's article "The Moon as Transmitter of Influences" on this site. http://www.skyscript.co.uk/moon2.html I was really impressed with her thoughtful approach to the Moon. She takes into account current astrological thought and lays out quite clearly the bases of the differences between modern VOC interpretations and those of the classical and medieval practitioners. In particular her thoughts regarding the Moon in horary were very engaging to me. An article like this will never supplant a personal 'feel' regarding a chart, however.

:) Hi 1000 Camels (love the name!)

That is such an interesting and informative read. It also makes you aware that interpreting the void of course moon is not as straightforward as it first seems. I think it makes a lot of sense as it takes into account other circumstances which may affect the outcome of the judgement such as the transition of light from other planets and such. Thanks for bringing to my attention!
