by Morpheus Via Combusta is different from Combustion. Combustion is when a planet is in proximity of Sun within 8 degrees and 30 minutes and within the same sign. Lilly mixed art with discretion. Here is the definition of Via Combusta Via Combusta - The area between 15 Libra and 15 Scorpio is termed the Via Combusta: 'Fiery Road' or 'Combust Way'. It is considered to be a debilitating area, particularly detrimental to the Moon. Al Biruni wrote of it: "The combust way is the last part of Libra and the first of Scorpio. These two signs are not congenial to the Sun and the Moon on account of the obscurity and ill-luck connected with them and because each of them is the fall of one of the luminaries. They also contain the two malefics, the one by exaltation (Libra, Saturn) the other by house (Scorpio, Mars)." This may be a very ancient aphorism, originating from the period when 15 Libra corresponded with the autumn equinox. (Deborah Houlding) I dont know how chart may be posted in this forum. But you could have posted time and place of the query alongwith exact degree and minutes of the ascendant. Regards Morpheus https://horusastropalmist.wordpress.com/ Quote Sun Apr 29, 2007 10:41 pm
by Morpheus Hi Gunhilde! So there appears to be a controversy. However, i depended on this. A planet is said to be combust of the Sun, when in the same sign where the Sun is in, he is not distant from the Sun eight degrees and thirty minutes, either before or after the Sun.........(CA p113) underlined by me A case could be developed. Lilly has written when he is not distant. Every body knows. Moon is lady Regards Morpheus https://horusastropalmist.wordpress.com/ Quote Sun Apr 29, 2007 10:49 pm
by Amanda Hi, Time and place 4:00pm April 17th, brooklyn, NY Asc: 15 degrees in Virgo 25 47 minutes Plus I forgot to mention POF is in the 1st house Hope you can use this info. Amanda Quote Sun Apr 29, 2007 10:53 pm
by Morpheus Hi Gunhilde! Note he doesn't say 'they have to be in the same sign', he says 'combustion'. Why should he say so, when he has already defined combustion on p113 Last edited by Morpheus on Sun Apr 29, 2007 11:20 pm, edited 1 time in total. 17 by Morpheus Hi Amanda! I have seen the Chart. So, i stand by my conclusions which i have posted above. Further points worth considering -Saturn conjuncts 12th house. -Saturn was going to a stationary position. Whenever a planet stations it highlights its issues. And his issues are 5, 6 by Lord and 12th by position. -POF is disposed off by under the sun beams mercury in 8th house. -Jupiter is in square with POF. Forewarned is forearmed. Zeus (Jupiter) has no honourable intentions (Rx-Retro). Regards Morpheus https://horusastropalmist.wordpress.com/ Quote Sun Apr 29, 2007 11:18 pm
by Gem The idea of combustion originally comes from the actual visibility of the planets in the sky. So even the planets are in different signs, they can be regareded as combust. It`s true there was a discussion on this before but I can`t locate it right now. In this case as the Moon is exalted it may retain its virtue to a certain degree but would be hidden or not obvious. 19 by Gunhilde Hi STJ, Why should he say so, when he has already defined combustion on p113 Heh, I missed that one, clearly; I had my zip-drive copy open, which is more difficult to reference than flipping through pages! It seems to me that combust is combust is combust; 8 degrees is 8 degrees. Otherwise, how can a planet Under the Beams still be Under the Beams across different signs, which it frequently is? If the two luminaries were switched, with the Moon in Aries and the Sun in Taurus, the Moon would be considered combust, wouldn't it, as it in applying aspect? I don't know how many astrologers wouldn't consider this to be the case, simply because they were in different signs. There *was* a debate about this, but I believe the planets in question were the Sun and Venus, sometime last year during one of Venus' conjunctions. It seems to me that it is even more relevant to consider the condition of the Moon, since she is the principle player in every chart. Do I hear an argument brewing? *rubs hands together gleefully* Quote Mon Apr 30, 2007 10:12 am
by Gem Regarding the New moon, the affliction is lessened after the conjunction. Worst, when the Moon is applying. Quote Mon Apr 30, 2007 10:13 am
by Gunhilde Regarding the New moon, the affliction is lessened after the conjunction. Worst, when the Moon is applying. Absolutely. I would think that in the case of this particular chart, with the Moon in Taurus separating from the Sun in Aries, it makes sense to examine what is 'coming to light', e.g. out from under the combustion, and across the different signs. Nothing is an accident in a horary chart, is it? GH Quote Mon Apr 30, 2007 10:30 am

by MarkF You're Mercury, he is Jupiter. You're about to apply to Saturn, prohibiting the contact with Jupiter. That plus the Moon being combust (or under the Sun's beams at least) means the answer is a no. Plus Jupiter is retrograde. Mark F Quote Mon Apr 30, 2007 1:25 pm
by Morpheus Gunhilde & Gem: I am sure that there must have been some discussion regarding combustion as Lilly specifically mentions that combustion occurs within Sign and he doesnt mention the same condition for under the sun beams situation. My idea about the Moon is also little bit different. -If combustion depends upon observabe astronomical phenomena then as compared to other planets, Moon appears to be of same disc size when observed from the earth. -No planet dares reveal his existence in day light. Moon is the only one who some times can be distinguished in sky in the broad day light. -Moon is the only object who frequently obscures Sun. Solar eclipse. Anyway, separating combustion (which is evident in Querent case) is not as bad situation and it exactly tallies with the circumstances of the Querent life. Remember she told that she was in the mid of despairs when she met that Man, who may be (not precisely a new moon-observed phenomena) a ray of hope (but technically speaking a new moon) but she is not clear sighted about the fact (L! under the Sun beams) and is fearful (south node conjuncts ascendant). P.s experts say that applying combusted Moon is good for matters where secrecy is required (the evil me, thinks about the benefits of astrology and elections) Regards Morpheus https://horusastropalmist.wordpress.com/ Quote Mon Apr 30, 2007 2:56 pm
