Hi Everybody

My partner and myself recently entered a songwriting competition on our local BBC radio station and I asked the question on June 1st at 12.59 Liverpool, England, 'Will we have any success with our entry? I looked at the chart (though I'm definitely no expert!) and had others look at it also.

Virgo is rising so Mercury is the significator together with the Moon. Mars rules the third (writing and singing?) and I used Venus ruling the 9th (competitions) also. The only contact I could see between any of the significators was a wide square (out of orb) between Mercury and Mars so I took this to be a negative answer. Others who looked at it came to the same conclusion.

I also spotted the Part of Fortune in the 7th conjunct Uranus. Now I know traditional astrologers don't use the outer planets but I thought this could indicate radio broadcasting - Uranus (very apt) - and conjunct the part of fortune so perhaps a positive answer? Then I thought, perhaps the chart should have been turned as I was asking about my PARTNER and myself.

Well, fantastically- it was announced yesterday that we were runner ups with our entry and will be performing it live on radio in the near future. This bodes well for our future as songwriters too as it has given us some recognition and also will give us the exposure we need when we perform.

Where did we go wrong in interpreting this chart? Should it have been turned or is it something else that we missed?

You are represented by the first house. Your husband is repersented by the 7th house. Mr&Mrs (husband and wife--a status recognized by society) combined is 10th house. Winning a competition or recognition is 10th house. 10th house from 10th house is 7th house. We have to see any positive aspect between Mercury/Moon ruling 10th house of the radical chart with Jupiter ruling 7th house.

Moon is conjunct Jupiter. POF is in 10th house from 10th house i.e 7th house of this chart. The answer was positive. Had you posted the chart in skyscript?

Hi Mia, here is my view of chart.
This is infact like sport chart, "you" against "them".
You, and your husband are "we" and we gets 1 house and its ruler. Hm, that South node in tight conjuction with ASc is a bad sign. But let's see further...
Ruler of ASC is Me in 10th house, peregrine, accidently dignified, but in another sign of the house cusp, so it is not so strong.
Moon is in angular house too, but unforunately in house of fame for "them" (turned 10th house from DSC).
Let's see ruler of DSC. That is Ju rx in his own sign, accidently and essential dignified in their house of fame, with Moon ruled by Ju too. Thay have POF in their 1st house ruled by Ju too. North Node in tight conjuction with DSC.
So in my opinion someone of them will be winner with ultramodern song (Ur in 7 house) while your song will be traditional (Me in Can) but will be also very popular (Sun conjuct fix star Aldebaran and conjuct MC). In fact, you have better accidental dignities, from them, but Moon is in their 10th house, so I believe "thay" will win, luck (POF) is on their side.

Thank you both for your comments. Yes Gryffindor, I did ask the question and I hadn't posted the chart on Skyscript as I think I may have posted charts relating to our songwriting before and didn't want to bore anyone!

Goca, the situation is, there has been an outright winner and there were five runner ups. We were one of the five and were given some very positive comments/feedback regarding our songwriting on live radio which was wonderful and so unexpected. You get used to someone else winning all the time and so it's a nice surprise when it's your song that's had some success! We have changed our material recently though - for no other reason than that's the way it came out!

I know we weren't the outright winner but us taking part in the live broadcast of our song will give us some publicity and we can also now say that we got this far with our material. The way the judges were talking, we have a good chance of being very successful with our writing and this is so encouraging.

What do you think the South Node conjunct the ascendant means then Goca? Is it just that we weren't the outright winner?

South node is indicator of some kind of loss. So, probably you will not be outright winner, but your song will be very popular for reasons I said in previous post. I am glad you made it! Keep working! All the best!

Yes Goca, you could be right about our song. The songs have been judged very much by their lyrical content. I'm very much into melody/harmony as well as song lyrics and having heard the winning song, (which is lyrically very good) I think ours is most definitely better melodically and therefore, maybe more appealing. Of course, it all depends on personal taste and I really don't want to sound conceited and self important when I say these things but I think you could be right.

I'll let you know what happens anyway. The radio people will probably be in touch soon as they said that they want us to perform the song on live radio which will be exciting and frightening at the same time!

Just to keep you up to date. A producer from the radio station has phoned to say that she is in the process of organising our broadcast. There were four other runners up, two of whom are away at the moment and I think she wants to put a kind of show together. She has to make a decision on whether to do it live or pre-recorded also and she said the whole thing may not take place until August/September but it will definitely go ahead! We're being featured in the local press this week also which is great for getting us 'out there'.

So Goca, we will have to wait a little longer to see what the response is to our song!
