Horary Question Re: Asc and 7th Rulers

1
Hi all

If the Ascendant ruler (Querent) is in the 7th house does that mean the Quesited is most interested in the Querent?

And, if the 7th ruler (Quesited) is in the 1st house does that mean the Querent is most interested in the Quesited?

I've seen it used in the reverse and am confused as to which is the right way :-?

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated, thanks :D

Hi

I would think it would relate to any question regarding the Querent and the Quesited when dealing with Asc/7th house matters. And, of course, depending on the aspects, if any, between the rulers.

I want to know which is the right way to read the ruler of one in the house of the other.

Opinions differ about this question. Here on Deb's site I believe it says, yes, the 7th person in the 1st means 'more keen', and vice-versa. I'm pretty sure this is how Lilly read it. Frawley, however, doesn't think it makes any difference; the 7th significator in the 1st could mean that s/he is more into the querent, but it can also simply mean that the significator of that person is in the 1st's house because the 1st is asking a 7th-house related question and has that person on his/her mind.

From my experience, I think this is basically correct, as I've done several charts where the querent is obviously more keen than the quesited (gathering information from the context of the question), but the quesited's significator shows up in the querent's house.

It would also depend to some degree on the condition of the 7th significator: fall? detriment? exalting the querent?

Good question!

That helps...somewhat.

When you said, "Here on Deb's site I believe it says, yes, the 7th person in the 1st means 'more keen', and vice-versa. I'm pretty sure this is how Lilly read it," who are you referring to as "more keen," the Querent or the Quesited?

Thanks for your response, I'll have to search the site and see what I can find.

L1 in 7H or L7 in IH is not a favourable condition for healthy 1-7 horary relationship question, as the significator would be in his detriment.

The concept has come from Emplacement, which in my opinion in 1-7 relqationship horary is not keenly looked after unless and untill you want other party to be powerless.

I would like my GF or wife to be understanding rather than hopelessly trapped in a detriment sign.

Hi Marg,

In her horary course Deb teaches that L.1 in 7th means querent is keen on quesited, and L.7 in 1st means quesited is keen on querent. Neither condition is inherently "unhealthy;" this depends on the rest of the chart, whether there are indications of reciprocal feelings for instance. And of course the all important moon.

Hi Marg,

Tara summed that up quite well. You should also consider which planet is moving most quickly to apply to or separate from the other ? this usually describes the one who makes most of the moves to develop or end the relationship. Also, the superiority, natural signification, and dignified state of each significator says a lot about how people conduct themselves in relationships. The one who appears ?most keen? might not be the one with the most genuine sense of commitment. As Horatio says, when a planet is placed in the house opposite to its own, it will usually be in the sign opposite its own too, therefore in detriment. Amongst the things this might describe is an unhealthy state of dependency, especially if the planet is peregrine and otherwise afflicted by being retrograde or combust.

But on the other hand, let?s say we have the 7th-ruler in the 1st house or close to the ascendant. There is a good chance that this planet will be in detriment, and planets in the 1st house are partly descriptive of the querent, so if this planet is otherwise afflicted it may not be a good indication for either party. So you can see how this could have alternate meanings, depending on how the situation is described by the rest of the chart. My own experience is as Tara described it. Planets are in their own strength and describe someone with a good sense of independence and self-worth when they are in their own signs and houses. When they are in the territory of ?the other? I see this as an indication that they give something of their energies to the other.

How about if the ruler of the Ascendant is in the first house? Ie, if Jupiter is in Sag and the Ascendant for the horary chart is in Sag? Does this mean that the querent only cares about himself?

Sorry, no matter how many times I read this stuff, I can't seem to get horary into my head.

L1 in the 1st in a relationship question shows the querent in a strong position, i.e. they have good self-esteem and are secure in themselves. This may or may not translate into a lack of interest in the other person - it really depends upon the Moon and the placement of the Sun and Venus (if it's a romantic relationship). Basically I think of it as being secure in one's own company - there is not the desperate need or overwhelming desire to pursue the object of affection, as there would be with L1 in the 7th. As Deb commented, L1 in the 7th can show a less genuine attraction because there is this theme of desperation which is not present otherwise. Also, L1 in the 7th shows the querent is under the power of the other person, in whatever way, literally or emotionally. L1 applying to the 7th cusp, however, would show the querent putting pressure on the other person. I have seen this in a chart where the querent wanted to know if the relationship could become romantic. L1 was just on the 7th cusp and it became clear they were putting a lot of pressure on the other person to take it to the next level.

As an example of the Jupiter in Sag placement: I recently did a chart for myself where L1 was Mercury in Cancer and L7 was Jupiter in Sag. I thought he was better than he was (exaltation of L7), and he was a nice chap but just not particularly interested in me (L7 strong in own sign, detriment of L1). He was very Jupiterian, very generous and kind - just not that into me! L1 and L7 being in non-beholding signs was another clue that it wouldn't come to anything.
