Figuring Out Each Party in a Love Triangle

In a horary chart in which the querent has a choice between two men, how can we figure out the significators for the men involved?

Here is an example:

The querent is torn between two men, one of whom is significantly older than she is and with whom she has an intense platonic friendship. There is love but there is a huge obstacle between them taking the relationship to a next level. The other man is someone the querent dated recently and is still interested in, however, he may not be marriage-minded. He is close to her in age. None of the parties is presently married.

In a case such as this I would be very tempted to use the actual physical descriptions of the men instead of any house significators. The older one, for example, would likely fit Saturn, and the one who is her age would be represented by the Sun, as a man in his prime.

See how the Moon opposes both of them?

You would have to check descriptions of the men with the querent (besides age, I mean), and then look at the relative dignity and state of each 'man' significator, see how they relate to the querent's significator, where the Moon goes, what she does, etc. to get a clearer picture.

And speaking purely as a Sadge, why does she *have* to choose either one at this moment in time? :wink:

She doesn't. It's just been on her mind a lot and she is worried that her indecision is keeping her from being good to either man.

Saturn would describe the older man as he is in a position of authority over her.

The younger man is a lawyer.

So if the Moon opposes both Saturn and the Sun, she is not inclined to like either one? Who does L7 describe in such a case?

First thought was:
1st for her, 7th for current guy. 1st for the new guy (7th fom 7th - enemy)
Which would provide an interesting interpretation

I guess seen as though shes dating the new guy, you could assign the 5th to him. You say the new guy is not marriage minded? Pisces ruling the 5th, with Neptune opposing Venus (ruler of 7th/8th and 12th)

I think the older man was never the marrying kind and hasn't had a relationship in nearly 20 years. The younger man's situation is a little more complicated bc he is on one of those "sow your wild oats" tear. Although he's not THAT young, he's in his late 30s.

I don't know if that's a clear answer at all, though. Someone told me that a horary chart cast during an eclipse is not very accurate. Is that true?

Hi Venussquare,

From your descriptions I think Saturn and the Sun will both work nicely, or Saturn and Jupiter (since he is a lawyer and sowing his oats now, that's definitely a fitting description of Jupiter in Sagittarius :wink: ).

Horaries done during eclipses aren't necessarily 'bad' or unclear because of the eclipse, but they are definitely affected by the Moon's placement in relation to the Sun. New Moons are particularly difficult because the Moon is utterly burned up in the light of the Sun, and in Full Moons (like the one that has separated in your chart) we see the tension between the male/female dynamic due to opposition.

It doesn't render a chart unreadable or unclear, however. Usually the answer is very clear!

Just from reading your descriptions I would think both men are lost causes if the querent wants something sexual AND meaningful, but this isn't my horary question! :???:

I thought I'd give an update. Maybe as an exercise to those who are interested, we can work backwards given the new info.

After much consideration, the querent chose the older man. Given some complications, they are not entirely safe being open about their relationship and that causes some strain between them but, surprisingly, none of the querent's original fears about the older man have borne out (ie, the carnal or the commitment). They share a deep love and they feel lucky together. Oddly, the fact that both have had such stormy relationship histories seems to work in their favor since the constraints in starting a relationship meant that they had to consider long and hard about whether each was ready to take things to the next level. I think this is a good example of Saturn being (oddly) almost a benefic!

Hi Venussquare, thanks for the update.

In this chart you cast, the ASC is still very early. I can't quite decipher the aspects in the chart (e.g. the moon has already opposed both Saturn and the Sun and applies to oppose Mercury), but I note that the Sun is near the South Node, so if we took the Sun for the younger man, this would not be a harbinger of much happiness.

However, with that very early ascendant, it may be that there was no predestined choice, and that up to the decision-making second, there was always Free Will involved. Sometimes the early ascendant means, "It's up to you to decide."
