What significance - if any - do aspects which are applying, but not yet within orb, have in a horary chart?

Hi Tara,

I've had a few raps on the knuckles (as it were) about this. Basically because horary deals with immediate events and works in a (relatively speaking) short timeframe, only aspects within orb show potential. If the aspect is out of orb then it's just not relevant to the question. Of course there are grey areas, but generally speaking this is the rule. With horary we really need to keep things simple to get clear and correct results. This means focusing only on the planets involved, and not trying to pull in everything in the chart. I think there are a couple of past threads involving this issue, I certainly remember one where a horary I posted taught me to keep things in orb! Often we end up looking around the chart and not following method when we want to see a "yes" answer that is just not forthcoming. (I know I'm guilty of this!)

You are quite right -- it is wanting to see a 'yes' answer that led me to think in terms of potentials. With one particular chart a number of relevant aspects were just out of orb and I was seeing it as potentials rather than the simple fact that, as it turned out, the relationship my client was asking about was, in fact, out of reach.

Simple is best and it is, as you say, all too easy to get lost in a sea of irrelevant details.

To be technically accurate, if the aspect is not yet within orb it can?t yet be called an applying aspect. (I learned that here.) That removes any temptation to use the aspect.

Must not consider out of orb aspects, must not consider out of orb aspects.
