House size ? 1 by Yikkes! Hi Folks, A friend was asking me about their career. Using Reg it gave small house for 10th. ie the slice of the pie was very small. I've always assumed that refected negatively on the house in question. I'm wondering if it could in fact have a concentrating effect. I've never seen anything (I think) writen about the meaning of the different size of angles allocated to each house. Is the house size reflected in the outcome of a chart ? H. Yikkes! Small Houses 2 by Julie K Yikkes, I think you are dealing with chart data for a person born at a high latitude. There is a definite distortion of the Houses using most systems - it does appropriate to the person's life style. Try Alcabitius or if that doesnt help go for Equal Houses. 3 by Andrew Bevan Norway calling! I spent 18months north of the Arctic Circle which gave me ample opportunity to pounder on the problem of extreme latitudes. Olivia Barclay used to tease me at the time saying she couldn't understand why I moved to a place where astrology didn't work. North of the Arctic Circle you experience some unusual headaches like the midnight Sun during Summer and midday darkness during winter, which is caused by the rather unfamiliar phenomena of portions of the ecliptic that do not intersect the horizon. This provides the astrologer with some theoretical problems but that are well worth thinking through; 1) Excessive large or small houses occur in quadrant house systems when the ascending degree occurs either close North or South. This is the same phenomena that causes an early Sunrise during Summer and short days during Winter. It is a question of how far South or North that portion of the zodiac rises up from the horizon. 2) In the Arctic the Midheaven, or culiminating degree in the South, may be located below the horizon, which places the Nonagesimal somewhere in the direction north. This is really confusing. The Nonagesimal is at a right angle and 90 degree seperate from the Ascendant. 3) During the interval where the Midheaven is under the horizon, and the center of this period lies at 0 Capricorn, the Ascendant will retrograde dramatically through the signs of short ascension. This movement always reminded me of the toppling of a dish out of balance. 4) For the periods of the midnight Sun and midwinter darkness, where the Sun is located in those degrees that do not intersect the horizon, I had to work out a different approach for planetary hours. This was only required for those intervals where the midheaven was below the horizon causing the ascendant to topple backwards through the signs of short ascension. At other times the chart appeared as normal. 5) I must also mention the problem of refranation, which means that while you may be sat watching a beautiful Sun set in the East, the reason you still can see the Sun is only due to the bending of light caused by the atmosphere. The Sun has actually set and is below the horizon. At northern latitudes where the ecliptic practically may lie parallell with the horizon, you may look deep into a great number of degrees of the zodiac which lie below the rational ascendant. As a consequence I do not pay too much attentions to the problems of planetary latitude, as I believe that planetary location should be measured along the ecliptic. From that point on my philosophy applies a rational horizon and a quadrant house system, where my choise is Regiomontanus because I believe that the equator is our most obvious circle of reference for the mundane. We all agree that charts look strange when house cusps get bungled together. Some houses almost 'disappear' altogether while others appear to stretch and involve up to 3 or 4 signs. It is strange how our concepts on house division are changed because we know that all housesystems are based upon an equal division - and all the houses are of equal size - but then at extreme latitudes the celestial circle of the ecliptic departs from the normal boundaries of quadrant and diurnal cycles. Being presently resident just outside Oslo at 59N56, I do not have to worry about waking up in the morning with an Arctic hang-over . But on the other hand, it takes Pisces no more than 20 minutes to rise at this latitude, which means that during the short interval of 40 minutes.. Boff! Gone! Both Aries and Pisces are history! While this provides no theoretical barrier to casting a chart, it is much harder to come up with an ascendant of any credibility. If one degree of arc lasts less than 1 minute in time, is close to impossible to come with an ascendant where minutes of arc are worthy consideration for anything. It looks neat, though! To the point Now the question that Yikkes refers to is concerning a horary - one specific question. I see no problem in applying the MC as cusp of the 10th house and using this cusp and its lord, to resolve the question. Planets in the sign on the cusp of the 10th does also give meaning to the entire sign. I might consider looking to those planets that contain the cusp of the quesit, regardless of their distance to the cusp - and consider whether this provided any significant information. An equal house system can be projected from any given point along the ecliptic, whether ascendant or planet (arabic parts), midheaven or cusp of the 2nd or 11th, etc. But to pass judgement on any mundane affair, adjust your approach but try not to give up on the quadrant system of your choise. The alternative is to consider the collapse of systems as a stricture and refrain from passing judgement. That makes it easy! http://www.astronor.com Quote Tue Nov 06, 2007 11:12 am
4 by Morpheus Hi All! After 3 months of practice with Whole Sign house system. I am forced to confess, perhaps the secret of astrology lies in simplicity. Keeping it as simple as possible has given my astounding accuracy to go almost professional (but there are more things in heaven and earth, i admit) . But every body is free to make his/her own decision. I have done further research. If you can not fish an answer within 5 minutes then i fear that chart would confuse further. One should try to ascertain the physical characteristics of the parties involved. After exhausting books in arabic, persian and hindi, i must say that nobody has been able to write on horary as Lilly has done. One has to extract >principles of prime importance< out of his treatment of the subject. P.S If one wants to attain mastery over horary, the guiding principle is NOT to analyse petty question, questions asked on whims and fancies. It is better to avoid questions asked by acquaintances and especially own questions. . The goddess of horary is ficke. Her seductive charms are best reserved for Astrologers analysing only questions of genuine nature. P.P.S if the question does not relate to 7th house. Then virtually every planet in 7th house is capable, especially one conjunct 7th angle acts as an enemy or obstruction to the querent, unless receive the L1 (if L1 is strong) or Moon (if L1 is weak). Every planet first of all is a person if not then its action of that planet. ...back to tea..... Regards Morpheus https://horusastropalmist.wordpress.com/ Quote Tue Nov 06, 2007 2:20 pm
5 by Andrew Bevan Back to Horatio's initial question - House size! My wife has two signs intercepted in the 12th house and likewise in the 6th. She always felt this as if 'God' had let her down. Why couldn't she have more planets in 'fun places'. However, she works as a physiotherapeut at a psychiatric hospital - so any way you look at the chart those planets in the 6th and 12th are put to good use. This weekend I cast a horary to locate the whereabouts of my mislaid earplugs to my mobile phone. I include the chart to show an example of distorted houses. The earplugs are indicated by Gemini on the cusp of the 2nd (Taurus asc. They're mine!!). Mercury intercepted in Libra in the 6th in mutual reception with Venus, also intercepted in the 6th. The Moon last passed over Saturn - so they are mislaid. The significators of the earplugs are cadent, so I can't find them - they are found indirectly or by someone else. Mars, lord of the 7th, is on the cusp of the 4rth - so my partner finds them. Cancer on the cusp of the 4th - Moon intercepted in Virgo in the 6th. They are in the washing machine and my wife found them there after all the clothes had been taken out. The thing is Mercury is intercepted in Libra and the earplugs WERE in my trouser pocket, but during washing they fell out (reception to Venus in her fall) but were STILL in the washing machine. In this case TWO SIGNS INTERCEPTED in the 6th ACTUALLY MADE SENSE!! Fortunately, Mercury was with Spica offering protection - and great was my relief when I plugged them into my mobile phone again and they still worked! http://www.astronor.com Quote Tue Nov 06, 2007 5:04 pm
6 by Yikkes! I'm not sure if I've advanced my understanding of houses from this. It wa suggested that I was at a Northern longtitude but I"m in the South of France. Is that so North ? I think house size does offer information and I'd take it simply as a small house suggests a small or short career, in this case. It might suggest an intense career but of a smaller magnitude. You'd expect somebody like Churchill to have a big 10th house. H. Yikkes! Quote Sat Nov 10, 2007 10:59 pm
