Hi everyone,

Would appreciate your insights into a chart I cast for the question:

Should I do volunteer work for World Society for Protection of Animals?

Chart data: Feb. 20/08; 12:45 pm EST Toronto, Canada.

Considerations: Early ascendant (1 Cancer 13) and L7 retrograde.
But there is also Hour Agreement.

L.1 = Moon 26 Leo 29 in 3rd
Quesited - the organization = L.11 - Mars 26 Gemini 33 conjunct Asc.

It is fitting that Mars is intercepted in the house of large animals as much of the organization's work involves shining a spotlight on roadside zoos (large animals trapped in small cages).

Arguments of perfection:
* a very close (4 minutes!) applying sextile between L1 and L11
* L.11 conjunct Asc so there is also emplacement

Negatives are:
* L.1 peregrine, cadent and conjunct South Node
* L.11 peregrine
* Saturn angular and opposed Sun which disposits L.1
(yet Saturn and Sun are in good aspect to Asc)

My judgment at this stage is that I could probably get involved, but would I be glad that I had done so? Moon conjunct South Node and cadent is most concerning, along with the lack of ED of both primary significators. Lilly says about South Node (CA, p.83):

...when he chanced to be in conjunction with any of the Fortunes who were significators in a question, though the matter by principal significator was fairly promised, and likely to be perfected in a small time; yet did there ever fall out many rubs and disturbances, much wrangling and great controversies that the business was many times given over for desperate ere a perfect conclusion could be had; and unless the principal significators were angular and well fortified with essential dignities, many times unexpectedly the whole matter came to nothing.

Seems like volunteering for this organization might be more trouble than it's worth then?

The considerations for this chart are:

Asc. near Sign of Boundary,Moon VOC, Moon is fast.

These are telling you, the question has been asked too early. As the Moon is VOC and within 3 degrees of moving into the next Sign, nothing will happen until after this occurs.

Wait a while and ask the question later, word it a little differently.

Point well taken about the early ascendant which is a red flag for sure. I am more of the red flag school than the strictures school of thought on the Considerations though and the fact that the Moon (L1) applies so closely to the ruler of the quesited which is conjunct the ascendant seemed to warrant a closer look at the chart.

The Moon is not VOC, therefore, as it is applying to sextile Mars on Asc. I follow Lilly's definition of VOC which is based on being within orb of an applying aspect regardless of sign boundary, but even if I didn't, this Moon would not be VOC.

I'm interested in your comment that the Moon being fast is a Consideration. I've never heard that one before and would like to hear more of your thoughts on this.

I was most interested in this chart's mixed message -- primary significators closely applying is normally a sign of perfection, but L1 being conjunct the South Node I thought would spoil things.

My apology, I have been using the Paralax Moon and Mean Node for Natals. I've just changed back - the Moon is not VOC using Geocentric.

Solar Fire considerations includes the Moons rate of travel - she is travelling @ 13 deg + 19 mins pd - quite fast. In just 4 mins she will conj Mars. You mention the Mon conj S Node - not such a good thing.Mars is oob- but thats not a consideration.

The early Asc. would deter me.

Hi there,

I would also wonder whether Mars on the Ascendant means that the question is somehow 'hasty'; I've seen a number of charts recently with this aspect, where the querent hadn't quite thought things out in a thorough manner. But wouldn't this be given to the 10th, anyways, and not the 11th? Although it is a charity, it is a structured organization, and functions much the same way as mainstream businesses do (although sometimes less effectively; my husband used to work for the RSPB ).

The early ascendant would deter me, as well. Have you started an application for this job, even? The early ascendant (and Mars being there) would suggest this isn't the case...yet...although an applying sextile would certainly suggest the possibility is there.

Yes the early ascendant probably means the question is not sufficiently "cooked" and the penny just dropped for me this afternoon that Mars on ascendant could also refer to me being hasty, as Gunhilde suggests.

My thought was that the 11th house represents groups you align yourself with because you share common aims -- maybe that's a modern concept, but it works for me. I thought about the 10th but it's not a paid job I'm considering so they wouldn't be my employers.

You're right, Gunhilde, I haven't gotten past thinking about getting involved with the organization and based on this chart am not encouraged to do so. There are Considerations - early ascendant and L7 retrograde - as well as contra-indications - Moon conj. SN being the one that deters me the most, although angular Saturn is not too encouraging either, mutually applying to oppose the Sun which disposes my significator.
