Hellenistic Astrology

1
I was thinking about this today and I thought I would share.

The word "Hellene" is the word "Greek" in ancient Greek. This is also the root of the word Hellenism, which is used to describe the spread of Greek culture throughout the western world during the time of the Alexander the Great.

However, it wasn't only the spread of Greek culture that marked this period but also the spread and mixing of other cultures through a process called cultural synchretism, which is basically combining different cultural traditions to create a new one.

If we describe Hellenistic Astrology as the astrology practiced at the time of Alexander until the Roman conquest of Egypt, we can see cultural synchretism manifested in the astrology of the time, which is an amalgamation of Greek, Babylonian, Chaldean, and probably a great deal of Persian methods. The Persian culture was incredibly strong in ancient times, and probably would have dominated many others.

Through history, we can actually pinpoint the time period of Hellenstic astrology. 345 B.C. - Alexander begins his conquest of Persia and civilised world, and 30 B.C. with the Roman conquest of Egypt. Anything after that would be influenced by Roman culture (Pax Romana) and have become something different.

Anyway, just something to think about. Hope everyone is doing well.
