37 by Deb Sounds like a whole new discussion is coming up. Can I suggest the start of a new thread for that one? The influence of Ptolemy is cropping up in a number of threads, but the points are getting scattered and interrupting other discussions. Let's keep the focus of this thread on Vedic astrology. Anyone want to expand this and kick off a thread that gives Ptolemy and his influence a discussion to himself? Quote Thu Mar 13, 2008 4:44 pm

Not everything that was done is this period is bad, as examination of what Lilly and Morin did shows, but I'd argue that most of it was, and this made it that much easier to disregard astrology altogether. Then as consequence, the 19th century manifestation also found it much easier to mold what was left of astrology into something more appealing to the philosophical and political doctrines of that time, e.g. the Theosophical inspired musings of Leo, Rudhyar, et al. The bolded phrase was meant as tongue-in-cheek: I wasn't assuming that Ptolemy was the source and main document of horoscopic astrology, but I wouldn't argue that the Renaissance astrologers ended up damaging their astrological knowledge and judgment in their attempts to reform astrology, so I don't think they made it easier for others to disregard it or for Theosophists to muse about it. I see Renaissance astrology as simpler (or more straightforward) yet more systematic than (for example) western Medieval or eastern Vedic astrology. It's just a perspective. 39 by Pete The discussion about the Nakshatras has been really interesting, especially where it touched on a possible exaltation sign for Ketu, but I seriously doubt that we can find it simply using this method, anymore than we can explain Saturn's exaltation sign by examining the Libra Nakshatras. Bonatti tells us that Ketu is exalted in Sagittarius, Braha states that both nodes are exalted in the signs of Mercury. In my view only observation and work can give us a clear picture, far and above all the discussion and debate. My original post asked about the influence of Ketu when in conjunction with another planet. How does Ketu alter or affect the expression of that planet and the house involved? Examples will help us to find an answer to that question. This is how we learn. Cheers, Pete Quote Tue Mar 18, 2008 3:32 pm

If Braha writes it another way out, it's his own opinion, not supported by tradition. Actually, it is supported by at least one tradition: the Jyothishgranth Jataka Chintamani states that Ketu (Cauda Draconis) is exalted in Mithuna (Gemini) and fallen in Dhanu (Sagittarius). 42 by Andrew From a modern perspective, A T Mann has written: The North Node is exalted in Sagittarius where the ultimate community spirit is manifested in religion. The South Node is exalted in Gemini where the ambivalence of Gemini is contradictory to group realities. I wonder whether Mann was familiar with the Jatakachintamani when he wrote that? 45 by bkhardeep we shall consider 1- what are rahu and ketu, 2-their natur and charateristics, 3-their influence in various houses, 4-their effects through aspects and conjunctions and 5-their role in predictive astrology. as rahu and ketu do not own any signm they represent the lord of the sign. but the point to be noted that rahu and ketu will act as a strong agent of the planet with which they conjoined. it they are not conjoined with any planet, then they give the result of the planets which aspects them, only when they are neither conjoined nor aspected by any planet, they represents the lord of the house. if rahu or ketu were to be occupy the beneficial houses 5 or 9 and if they are in conjunction with or aspected by the lord of death houses 2 or 7 , then they causes death in their period, even though the lord of the houses 5 or 9 are in 10 producing rajayoga. if the nodes are in 2 or 7 - the death houses and if they are conjoined or aspected by the lords of 5 or 9 , they do not cause death., but they increase ones wealth , improve one's health and contribute for a long span of life. but if nodes are in 2 or 7 and its lords are conjoined with them or aspect them, they cause death. therefore rahu and ketu offers the result of the planets with which they are conjoined or aspected by or by ruler of the sign in which they are posited. hs nagi MAY YOU ALWAYS BE HAPPY-HEALTHY AND WEALTHY Quote Fri Aug 08, 2008 3:41 pm
46 by bkhardeep if rahu or ketu were to be in gemini or virgo or sggitarious or pisces, or are in common signs conjoined with the lords of 1 or 4 or 5 or 7 or 9 or 10, then the person enjoys life gaining wealth , promotion and power and becomes influential in their periods and sub periods hs nagi MAY YOU ALWAYS BE HAPPY-HEALTHY AND WEALTHY Quote Sat Aug 09, 2008 2:25 am
