What the Heck are Mercury and Saturn?

1
I was doing this horary for a friend of mine who was wondering if this man she has sort of been seeing for a bit would come and see her on this little date of theirs Monday at 10. He's a pilot and so is flying people around much of the time. This pilot is also married, but he and his wife have a weird relationship that I don't quite understand (even though I've had the story recounted to me several times). The question was "Will this date happen?". Basically the main concern is that they made the plans to meet at this time on Thursday and she hasn't heard from him since then, so she's not sure if they're still on or what. So here's the chart...

And here's my attempt at interpretation.

So, the Ascendant is very late, which I just took to mean that since the question was asked so close to the time of the meeting that it was sort of set in stone and it's too late to really change the situation. So Mars is the querent and Venus is this guy, but the first thing I thought was weird is the Moon's position in the Eighth house. I thought it a bit of overkill for her to be here, as I at first didn't think it was appropriate. We're just wondering if he's going to be there. It became apparent to me that the real question here is something more like "What's going to happen?" and the eighth house Luna just shows the fear and uncertainty going through the querent's mind.

I found it interesting that Venus (him) is depressed in Virgo, perhaps suggesting that he is unable to act too freely and feels held back by someone (his wife, perhaps?) or some feeling (guilt?). I also found it strange that Mars was in the depression of Venus. So, what my friend somehow affects him negatively. Perhaps he feels she is getting in the way of his marriage and is now starting to feel upset about that, I don't know for sure. I found it very strange that there is NO reception or aspect whatsoever between Mars and Venus. Taking secondary significators as Luna for the querent and Sol for the man, there is still no reception between Luna and Sol/Venus or Sol and Mars/Luna, there is, though, an applying Trine, so that may be promising. Also, I found Sol's placement interesting. Sol in Leo is only concerned about itself, but is still attractive. Being in a Fixed Sign suggests he isn't likely to move to meet the querent, but then his primary significator Venus is in a mutable Sign, which suggests a lot of movement. Also, Sol and Venus being in the Fifth house is appropriate as there isn't really any inclination on either of their parts to make this a serious relationship. So yes, his focus is on fun, romance, and sex as opposed to a committed relationship.

So, looking to see if he'll be there, I found the lack of receptions unsettling and the idea that the only aspect is between secondary significators (though a trine) didn't really seem like enough to cement the deal. It seems that Venus wants to come to meet Mars, but she'll get to Saturn first. So, I wonder, who or what is Saturn? Is it his wife? I also think it's interesting to note that by perfecting this conjunction to Saturn, Venus will be frustrating Mercury who is seeking to conjoin her, but she'll get to Saturn first. I took it as a "no, he won't be there, something's going to get in the way", but I'm not sure what that "something" is.

I thought, at first, I was looking too deeply into the chart and didn't get concerned about the frustrated Mercury and all of that, however, I had to stop and notice how much Mercury is on the mind of the querent and queisted. Both are in the house and exaltation of Mercury, so it has to be important in some fashion, but I just don't know what Mercury is and why it's on the minds of the main significators. My suspicions are that Saturn or Mercury are his wife, but I'm not sure which one and I'm not sure what the other one would be if not his wife. Unfortunately, I don't know anything much about his wife to be able to match her up to either planet based on personality or appearance. However, I have reason to believe she is represented by Mercury. As I understand it, his wife has a serious illness and it was this illness that first took him away from the querent. He pulled away from her to care for his wife. I believe she has gotten better now since he is off making dates again, and since Mercury has just left the Sign of Leo (where it was peregrine) and moved into Virgo (domicile and exaltation) it shows that Mercury's situation has improved greatly, which I feel is an interesting coincidence if Mercury does not represent his wife. However, then I'm not sure what Saturn is, and I figure Saturn is important since it is inbetween the querent and quiested, and Luna even translates the light from Saturn to Sol, so it's just double-Saturn here.

I hope that explanation was coherent, I've been under the weather lately and my processors are still kind of muddled. Any help would be greatly appreciated as assigning significators in this way (basically play who's who with the planets) is a concept I'm trying desperately to grasp.

Hi Sei no Senshi,

It's not unusual to see significators with no strong mutual reception in this kind of chart. The lack of strong MR (positive or negative) merely shows that there are no strong bonds here between querent and quesited, only a passing interest if that.

You make some good points in your post. Some additional observations:

Notice Mercury is conjunct Venus and applying to perfect. This sounds like the perfect description of the ill wife. An ill wife who has plenty more power over him than the querent - not only is she more important to him (L7 in sign and exaltation of Mercury), but she has prior claim to his time (Mercury applies to perfect the conjunction).

I've also learned that it pays to be mindful of charts where Mars is the woman and Venus is the man - it often shows a situation where the woman is the agressor in the relationship - and not for the best. My advice to her would be to back off, let him take the lead - and be prepared for it to go nowhere. His wife clearly is of the greatest importance to him and she should not underestimate that.

The Moon applies to trine the Sun - yep, a nice trine - but again, no mutual reception, and the Moon is weak in the 8th. They may meet and it may be sexually charged (Sun) but he's not really interested in her - only his own sexual desires (Sun in own sign).

Her mixed feelings to him are aptly shown by L1 being in L7's triplicity (comfortable with) and fall (damaged). So she's comfortable in this situation and sees no real need to change, even though it is damaging her and will continue to do so. Hopefully now she is beginning to realise that the damage is larger than the benefits.

Keep us posted!

Hi Keren, thanks for the response.

I should be able to give feedback as to whether the date happened or not later tonight or tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to say why it didn't happen if it doesn't.

Anyway, I'm glad you agree that Mercury is his wife, makes me think I'm starting to get this after all, but what are your thoughts on Saturn? Mercury does apply to Venus, but Venus is going to reach Saturn first. I also can't make much sense of it in this judgment. Lilly's proverb of "two dogs quarrel, a third gets the bone" doesn't seem to really apply here if Mercury and Venus relate to the wife and husband respectively, and Saturn to something else.

All thoughts appreciated. :)

Saturn could be here in his "General Malefic" role: the application of L7 to conjunct Saturn is just another testimony for "No way Jose!" Given that Saturn is often significator of the betrayed spouse, it could be that the wife really has total control over him.

I'd advise your friend most strongly to move on and find a man who is actually available and attracted to her!

Good point about Saturn being in his general role, sometimes I look too deeply into things, trying to connect planets with people involved in the situation.

Anyway, we were right, the date didn't happen, he never showed up. Don't know why yet, but when I figure that out (if ever) I'll update.
