Since you're using my thread, what do you think of the chart I posted? Care to add anything?

I went back and read the first post and it sounds like a pretty generic 'will we be in a relationship' horary, so I would probably treat it as a 7th house question if I was delineating it.

Sorry about hijacking the thread. :)

Heh. This wasn't half the problem. The issue is that Mercury/Venus/Mars/Jupiter palaver that just occurred. MarkC and I agreed it was a flummoxing aspect.

No probs with the usurpation, though. I always learn something from these tangents. :D

Well, I don't want to speak for Chris himself but I'm pretty positive I know how he would have interpreted the chart in this case. (He is the astrologer who drew up that confusing chart of mine, Gunhilde and he gave me his interpretation of that one. So since ours are similar it would most likely be close to the same interpretation)

With Chris' technique your two significators would be in the 12th house and cadent. I believe he would say that a relationship looks promising but that something/someone could get in the way of it happening and there could be some type of trouble/delay before it happened if it did. The Moon changing signs before it makes the conjunction with the significator means that there might have to be a change in circumstances before it happens as well.

Um, thanks, "Chris", for your input...

My friend agrees with the 'friends, possibly more but maybe not' prognosis, in any case. She said there's definitely a mutual attraction between herself and her dishy boss (that reception in the chart), but she's unsure as to whether he will be willing/able to compromise professional boundaries (everything pointing to Saturn). They work in an open plan office, which is a real killer for rather gossip-worthy office romances...

Stay tuned.

Hello all

I have been reading this thread for the last few days and it has given me a lot of food for thought in many ways, but for some reason I am still confused about the 7/10 house part of the question. Although the querent asked about a possible romantic development, the quesited IS her boss, and he may never be anything more than that. If, for example, the same person asks next week "Will my boss (whom I have a crash on) give me a good recommendation letter?", will the quesited be L10?

Please don't take my comment as an argument, I am too new to horary to have strong convictions, but I 'd like to hear your thoughts on that please :)

Oh, but it's so much better than television! I absolutely won't be able to rest until I know if she ends up doing it with the boss or not.
Kirk, your sarcasm is like a sweet spring flower. Save it for someone who needs a bouquet.

Aphrodite,

This was the initial conundrum: 7th or 10th. The 7th got the winning vote because, although he is her boss, she is interested in a relationship with him, and asked the question about a relationship. Being that she is looking at him as a man and potential mate of some sort, this garners a 7th house significator. I had considered, like you, giving him the 10th, but this seemed slightly 'off' even as I asked.

Hiimnotcool, a note: Being that I drew this chart in Regiomontanus houses, it seems most logical to read it from Regiomontanus houses, and not start trying to interpret it with Whole Sign houses or Porphyry or whatever. It's all well and fine for the significators to be placed in one house or another house using different systems, but not necessarily helpful. I am asking for input on this chart using this house system, and in this chart the significators are clearly placed in the 11th, giving a strong testimony that the matter will come to be. The 11th house is considered by Lilly to be nearly as strong as an angular house.

Even if we were to place one or another of the significators in the 12th, however, this wouldn't necessarily deny perfection of the matter, as the 12th rules secrets and illicit things. A dalliance with the boss, in my friend's case, certainly falls under 'covert alliances', especially since her job could be compromised otherwise. Perhaps it could be seen this way. But in my chart, they're in the 11th, and that's a different matter altogether.

Edit: Having said all of that, the fact of the matter is that Mars still squares Jupiter before any other translation is made. That Jupiter is the 5th house ruler in this chart may provide some mitigation, and being a relevant house ruler I don't view this as an impediment as I might if Jupiter were lord of some other house, but Jupiter is not in good shape...in fact it's downright 'yucky', even if it's in Mars' exaltation. I wonder how this influences things?

I appreciate that, hiimnotcool. I'm sure Chris is able to speak for himself, however. My point being, he was utilising my thread for a debate about houses, so I thought I'd ask him to participate in the thread itself. You had already voiced your own input.

7th, 10th, or other? Update and full moon question...

Hi folks, back again.

My buddy and her boss are apparently two peas in a pod (they have a natal Venus conjunction and some other quite harmonious aspects between their charts), and are becoming, to her eyes, 'Very good friends', although she is still quite attracted to him sexually. She is unsure whether he feels the same about her (he is a double Aquarius, so no telling whether he has feelings at all  ) but the chemistry between them is quite strong, she says, so she feels that he does. But a development:

He is leaving at the end of the year for another job. She cast a chart from her place of work and gave it to me to read.

RC, if you are here could you *please* tell me how you attach charts. I've tried Goca's instructions but can't seem to get them to work for me. :sg

She wants to know whether they'll stay in contact (as friends, co-workers, or otherwise) after he leaves.

13.57 Aquarius rising.
L1 Saturn at 16.50 Virgo in H7.
L7 Sun at 21.38 Libra in H8.
Moon 18.51 Aries on cusp of 2nd (Regiomontanus)

What is interesting is that the Sun, at 21.38 Libra, is not only in Saturn's triplicity and face but in the exact degree of Saturn's exaltation, so he is obviously quite receptive to her. Saturn, curiously, is utterly peregrine. Perhaps this describes her [admitted] ambivalence about Mr. Boss?.

The Moon is in the triplicity, face AND exaltation of the Sun, so we might be safe in saying that on one level or another the feelings are mutual, perhaps in different ways?

There is no applying aspect between Sun and Saturn, but there is a collection of light(?) between Sun, Jupiter, and Saturn. Jupiter rules the 10th, so it might be fair to say that it is possible they will maintain a 'work' relationship, or a connection through work. Jupiter also rules the 11th; part of her question was whether they would maintain a friendship (although of course aiming for more!)

But why would the 10th/11th ruler be in the 12th, the house of secrets? :???: A 'secret work friendship'?

There is also the case of this being a full moon. Lilly says, of course,
The application of the Moon to a Planet in his Fall, signifies anguish, trouble and delays in the thing demanded (CA 299)
and
When the Significator of the question is...in Opposition to the Sun, he will then signify nothing of the matter, no good, nor is he able to bring anything to perfection. (CA 300).
So I guess it's not looking too good for my girlfriend's love life with her boss. :?

So, if there is a collection through work, but an opposition between the Moon and his significator, how to judge, if not the outcome, the 'meat and potatoes' of the chart?

I'm a little confused...the receptions are there, sort of, and a collection, sort of, and an opposition...sort of...

Anyone take a stab at it?

Thanks,
GH :)

I just wanted to pop in with, I have found when I have done a horary for someone in past in this situation, 7 and 10 have almost ALWAYS had the same significator. ;-) as in Jupiter or mercury ended up being significator of both 7th and 10th house. I feel it is also a sign that you are ont he right track with the Horary because the boss would certainly be in both of those arena's. wouldn't you say?

granny_skot, I'm a bit busy at the moment so I only gave a quick look and I'm as confused as you are. The very moment I saw this Sun/Moon opposition I remembered the same quote you have posted yet, with the Moon being the best translator of light, separating from one and applying to the other significator I can't help but considering it a good sign. There are a few discussions here on the forum regarding combusted significators (is a significator really combusted if it is applying to conjuction with the Sun but in situations when the Sun is the other significator). There's still a debate going on concerning one of my own charts with such an aspect. Many members here say that the planet (the significator) is not actually combust in such position for, it is an applying aspect we are looking for to bring two parties together. I wonder if it applies to situations such as this one as well. It is an opposition but it allows the Moon to make a connectuion between the main significators. I, myself, don't have enough experience to judge.
Another thing that surprises me is to see the Moon and his significator placed along 2nd/8th axis, what could that mean? (for a moment I thought I had opened the wrong chart- the one where you're asking about the money!) :D
