The outer planets are informative because of their general influences. I consider them only when they are either very tight on an angle, or very close in aspect to one of the main significators. Otherwise it?s best not to give them too much attention. It?s probably a good idea to take a similar approach to the parts too ? although I realise that will probably hurt you to begin with If you start off by talking everything back to the planetary contacts and angles then you?ll keep your focus on the heart of the horary. The most telling aspect in this chart is the applying opposition between the Moon and Mars ? that is going to be a key influence in this chart.

Opposition aspects are also strong in horary, but they are difficult, and usually separative. Oppositions show problems, conflicts of opinion and opposing viewpoints ? but you know what they say: ?opposites attract?! Unless there is reception and the two planets are in good places and dignified, oppositions are more likely to describe problems that could destroy relationships rather than problems that are overcome.

If you can download Vol I of Christian Astrology, read what he has to say about ?whether a thing demanded will be brought to perfection yea or nay? on pages 124 ? 128. Many students skip that passage because it is outside the main horary volume, but it is a critical passage, and well worth studying. It is based on passages in older texts so you?ll find something similar in other works such as Bonatti?s Liber Astronomiae. Also, I don?t think the meaning of the aspects have shifted over time, the opposition has always been seen as a strong and forceful aspect that needs a lot of control; it is just that it has specific meanings within horary that might not be so obvious in natal work.

BTW, not everyone agrees with my own approach to outer planets and parts, so you'll probably get other clues too

Thanks for the hint. I was thinking it would be key, since the Moon is a general significator, and Mars is my own significator, as the querant. If this were in whole signs, the picture would actually be much clearer to me, since the opposition would occur in my 7th house, and his 7th house. I'm a bit thrown off by it falling in the 6th/12th of both. The Moon is applying to the opposition, and the houses are cadent, so does this in some way indicate the timing of the aspect?

Would some of those unfamiliar elements in the chart, happen to be the second ring from the outer ring of signs, on the chart? Those are Hephastio's set of terms. This is why I love this free program. I do wish that it would allow me to display the faces and the bounds at the same time (I'll have to write the software designer about that; it wouldn't be the first time).

Approach this with an open mind and consider how it describes your position. We already get a sense of the other person being interested in you by Venus being in the 1st; and you are Mars in its own sign, so again, this chart describes you as the one needing things to develop on your terms, not on the other person?s terms.

If you are Mars in its own sign and angular in the first house, you are described as not only powerful in the relationship, but also confident in your sense of ?self? and mainly concerned about your own interests. If you are Mars in the 12th house, then you still know what you want, but you are described as much more insecure about yourself, quite secretive or reserved about demonstrating your emotions, even possibly self-destructive because of fears and insecurities. The 1st house describes your position as strong and confident; the 12th describes you as feeling weaker and more inherently trapped than you would normally be ? and the 12th house also warns that this relationship could bring you trouble.

So there is a big difference in the meanings connected to the use of houses in this chart ? big enough, I think, for you to get a sense of which is right.

I'm sorry to randomly babble here, but I'm quite astonished (although unable as of yet to judge) the symbolism presented in these horary charts.

I have, thus far, cast three horary charts, asking different questions, about the same person, and each time, have had Mars as my significator, and Venus as his.

I have Mars on my natal ascendant, in his own bounds; he has Libra rising, with Venus angular.

Although I would not call either of these our strongest planets, they do play very large roles in our nativities.

I'm going to take a guess that this sort of stuff is normal, and perhaps helps to verify the validity of the horary chart cast?

I think you'll find different approaches to that matter. I'd say that most of the astrologers here on the forum follow the principle that a Horary chart is a chart for itself. You can find the informations on how to determine whether a Horary chart is radical or not here on this site which can be rather helpful for you at this point of studying Horary but non of them, really, suggests comparing Natal and horary charts. If we accept the fact that every question has got it's own time of birth (which we obviously do, otherwise we wouldn't be here! ) then it allows us to cast Horary chart for the moment it was born; The Querent (the one who gave birth to the question ) and the question get their Ascendant, rulers and houses - there are so many informations to harvest there even without looking at the Natal chart. Some Astrologers suggest to pay a lot of attention to situations when an important point from the Natal chart is conjucted or otherwise strongly emphasized in a Horary chart but in cases when the Querent doesn't know his/her exact time of birth, we can't do that. (I tried searching for these "things" a while ago and comparing a few of my Horary charts with my Natal chart just to see whether I'll be able find anything significant and- everything seemed to be important! ) Of course, you'll find all sorts of approaches if you just Google a bit! ) You'll here the opinions on this matter from other people here as well , I'm sure. But, taking this forum as a huge source of informations and experience, I had been reading, comparing and analyzing, reading some threads over and over again and i've seen a great number of neat and clean Horary readings with no help from the Natal chart or even informations about the Querent's personal life what so ever.

And as for the same rulers pattern you're mentioning, my Virgo rising simply doesn't allow me to exclude the common sense here- I recently realized that almost all Horary charts I had casted in one period (a while ago) have had the same Ascendant. But, guess what- it was a "morning shift at work" period and the only time I was free and able to concentrate on Horary questions was from 6 to 10 P.M.
