What natal chart specifics makes physicians and surgeons?

Please elaborate on this as I remember Valens mentioning something about finding Venus ineffective in the 6th house unless it's located there with Mars (in its joy, of course) and that makes those in medicine or physicians.

If anyone knows anything else, please jot it down. Don't hesitate to talk about orthepedics and orthepedic surgeons because I'm personally interested in what distinguishes different doctors/surgeons.

Cornell's "Encyclopedia of Medical Astrology" has extensive natal indications under the headings of "healers" and "surgeons".

Using my own natal chart as an example (Dr. of Medical Science in Homeopathy; active in alternative therapeutics for the past 27 years-over the past several years making increasing use of medical astrology), my natal Asc is right at the 3rd decanate of Virgo, Mars conjunct, rising, trine to the Sun (applying aspect), Uranus in 11th House conjunct Part of Fortune.

Mercury makes Physicians and Mars makes Surgeons. Mars would be the professional significator and Mercury or Saturn would be involved. I would also look for strong luminaries and angular planets to distinguish between a surgeon and a butcher.

Saturn can be a traditional significator for doctors, scientists and persons of learning. It is the measurement of Mercury mixed with the knowledge of Saturn that makes the cut of Mars the mark of a Surgeon.

Interesting about Saturn/Mercury and Mars. It was my dream to be a cardiologist, though I went into microbiology. I have a late start, but I am attempting admission into a post-baccalaureate program to try to get into med school. I have Mercury (in the 11th) in Taurus trine Saturn in Virgo (in the 3rd), Mars in Aries in the 10th, trine Saturn and conjunct Mercury (though out of sign in classical).

Well, since we are discussing surgeons, there is at least one interesting case in my life as astrologer.

When I was still a begginer, a friend of mine asked me to take a look at a chart and tell what I could about it. Turned out that I did not like the chart even a bit, but I was fearfull that it could be the chart of someone dear to him, so I tuned down my comments. Still, I was able to indentify the person as proeminet to some degree, mainly because of study and recognized mental traits, althought possibly dangerously twisted (Mercury ruler of 12th). Close to family (generalization at the time, due to Cancer risign and my modern background). What really stunned my friend was when I moved to profession significator, and told him that he could be a doctor (dealing with death through Mars on 8th). Turned out he was really an (in)famou surgeon:

I find this chart quite interesting even now, cause there is Mercury detriment at MC and Moon opposign Venus detriment. I might be wrong, but Venus may be an all important significator of Medicine practiced in it's righteous way (as indicated by the first post in this thread, Venus + Mars in 6th of diseases means comfort brought to diseased trought means of Mars).

He also has Pluto in the 12th square Mercury, and Jupiter in Scorpio retro trine Mercury. Jupiter in Scorpio is something I've run across quite a bit in some well-known criminals, when coupled with some other dark influences: Ted Bundy, Al Capone, O.J. Simpson, Jeffrey Dahmer to name a few. Though, a lot of peope have Jupiter in Scorpio who don't behave that way of course. If you compare these guys' charts, you'll see some commonalities though.
