A Horoscope's fee in the Middle Ages and in a Renaissance

1
I found a very impressive passage in Jean Baptiste Morin "Astrologia Gallica" book XXIII, page 54:
"... and I received a thousand livres for judging the nativity of a certain most Serene and Magnanimous Prince whose very famous name I have omitted here."
The translator, J.H.Holden, argues that at this time 1000 livres were equivalent to 62 000 dollars in today's money. :o

Does anyone know what was the usual fee for a horoscope at that time?

Patronage was the order of the day, not fees. Lilly is the only major astrologer I'm aware of that made a living reading charts largely for the common folks. My guess is that Morin was paid for more than one reading.

The biography Cardano's Cosmos, puts an interesting light on how an astrologer had to make a living during the Renaissance and we need to keep that in mind when reading these astrologers. They could not afford to offend the person who provided them with a livelihood.

I think you're right.
For example, in the life of Luca Gauriko is an interesting episode. After he successfully predicted that Alessandro Farnese becomes a Pope, and when in the year 1534 Cardinal Farnesse was elected as Pope Paul III, he made Gaurico his unofficial astrologer. In 1539 Paul III made Gauriko appointed Bishop of Giffoni and 6 years later, in 1545 - Bishop of Civitate. After the death of his Patron, Gaurico abandoned these duties.

yes,but we don't forget that life of an astrologer was full of risks and the road to arrive to Papal court is full of obstacles.

The same Gaurico was tortured in Bologna because another of his prophecies.
And just the most important astrologers arrived to the courts; the rest - as other men of science, lawyers, doctors should be satisfied with very little less.

People are usually not aware of how low was the standard of living before the 20th century.
I remember reading in a book that even in the early years of the 20th century, in the US, a great % of the population almost never saw any money, trading on products, and even in the 20s, to buy clothes for kids would be something that only the rich would do, most people would sow them in home.
