World's Tallest Building Officially Opened 1 by Andrew Bevan The World's Tallest Building 'The Burj Khalifa' was officially opened in Dubai 4 January 2010. The building that has 160 floors streches 828 or half a mile up above the Earth's surface. Location 25N12 55E16. The inauguration ceremony seemed to be well under way today at 16.30 GMT. Can anyone confirm the exact time? Watch the Cermony: Businessinsider Background: Wikipedia, BBC News I am confused why someone would want to open a building of this magnitude with Saturn square Pluto, and both Mercury and Mars retrograde. A chart cast for 16.30 GMT gives Asc 21LE31 MC 19TA23 - that puts 19 Scorpio on the cusp of the 4th!!? Retrograde Mars, who is Lord of the 4th, is in the 19th degree of Leo, square the Meredian and on the cusp of the ascendant. Mars is the focal point of a finger involving the Sun and Uranus. Mercury, who disposes the Moon, is in his inferior conjunction and cazimi. We have another thread running at Skyscript on 'The World & Dubai' which touches the financial crises of the region. 2 by Andrew Bevan The exact height of the building was kept secret until the figure was made public during the inaguaration cermony: The world?s tallest tower, developed by Emaar Properties, was unveiled last night to a crowd of thousands and the world in a crescendo of fireworks, lasers and fountain displays. The official height of the tower, unveiled as ?Burj Khalifa?, was announced as 828 metres (2,716.5 ft). A closely guarded secret, the official height of Burj Khalifa was flashed onto a giant screen before an estimated crowd of more than 400,000, as lasers and fireworks lit up the night sky. Source: dubaicityguide.com The official arrangement appears to have been scheduled for 16.00 GMT: As per the informations received to me, the opening ceremony to be attended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-MaktoumMohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the vice president and prime minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai at 8 p.m. Source: Allvoices.com http://www.astronor.com Quote Tue Jan 05, 2010 2:19 pm
3 by amandaW The closest I could find when I read through the reports was "just after 20.00" (so just after 16.00 gmt -something like 16.03 or 16.05 i'd guess) Mercury and Mars retrograde It was originally scheduled for completion a month or so ago. My assistant's son has been working on it. Quote Tue Jan 05, 2010 7:04 pm
4 by Andrew Bevan Pluto in Capricorn square exalted Saturn in Libra makes this a monsterous piece of architecture. First thing that comes to mind is a Battleship, a Death Star, the lodgings of Darth Vader or something like that. It is out of this world but I suppose I'll get used to it. As cermonies are concerned, there is often a cermony before the cermony - so it actually takes time before things get going. The official announcement, big cheer ad round of applaus was probably made just before the fireworks set off with lighting up of the building. The time for when the Tower revealed it's identity and secrets - when its true height lit up on the screen - that could be the moment to be selected. http://www.astronor.com Quote Tue Jan 05, 2010 7:34 pm

It is out of this world Maybe a modern version of "the Tower of Babel" ??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Babel The twin towers (WTC) were destroyed on the 911 event, just when Pluto was opposite Saturn (in Gemini). Maybe the combination of these two planet has something for tall towers? As for the Dark Battleship, here's what one can find in the above WikiPedia Article about the Tower of Babel: Kabbalah Some Kabbalistic mystics provide intriguing and unusual descriptions of the Tower of Babel. According to Menachem Tsioni, an Italian Torah commentator of 15th century, the Tower was a functional flying craft, empowered by some powerful magic or technology;[8] the device was originally intended for holy purposes, but was later misused in order to gain control over the whole world. Isaac of Acre wrote that the Tower builders had reached, or at least planned to reach the distance of 2,360,000,000 parsas or 9-10 billion kilometers above the Earth surface, which is about the radius of the Solar System, including most Trans-Neptunian objects.[9] Similar accounts are also found in the writing of Jonathan Eybeschutz and the ancient book Brith Menuchah,[10] according to which the builders of the Tower planned to equip it with some shield technology ("shielding wings") and powerful weapons. Many Kabbalists believed that the ancient peoples possessed magic knowledge of the Nephilim, which allowed them to construct such powerful devices. Moreover, according to some commentaries, some Talmudic sages possessed a manual for building such a flying tower. According to another mysterious Kabbalistic account, one third of the Tower builders were punished by being transformed into semi-demonic creatures and banished into three parallel dimensions, inhabited now by their descendants.[11] Quote Thu Jan 07, 2010 7:58 am

I hope they don't build too many... In Norway we have one tall building, the Oslo Plaza, that is 117m tall - and that's about it! The building know as the SAS-hotel built in 1975, in its time Oslo's tallest building, has a height of 67metres. It is today ranked as Oslo's third tallest building. The tallest building in the Nordic countries today is the Turning Torso in Malm? in Sweden and is 190m tall. 7 by AquaStella My assistant's son has been working on it. About 12000 workers from dozens of different countries have been working on it. I do think that the building of such a construction is an accomplishment, even though it scares the wits out of me. I hope they don't build too many... I've just read that Saudi Arabia had announced they intended to break the record and build a 1.1 Km tall tower, that had already been planned a long time ago, but only recently approved by the king (after having been canceled because of the world economy crisis).
