The problem with hard and fast rules, e.g. always use the ASC ruler or always use the domicile ruler of the solar eclipse, is that the ruler may be weak and ineffective and if other planets are more influential, we miss a lot by sticking with the domicile or ascendant ruler for that matter. They should never be ignored, but there may be other places to look for information.

But I'm not at war with Morin. Just what a pity he writes that way. I have his comment to Centiloquium translated in Italian and I cannot understand what he means.

Anyway Morin lives when Arab astrology was fading so it's obvious he is nearer to Ptolemy than he wants :)

I've been trying to pin a time on possible Katla eruption. I was aiming for uranus conjunct IC.
Hello eudaimonia,

Welcome to Skyscript and the mundane forum in particular. :D I hope you enjoy using this site. Do take an opportunity to utlise all the features of the site including the excellent selection of articles.

I admire you having a go at a prediction! And we will not have long to wait either. :)

However, I am a little confused by your methodology. Since the angles are constantly shifting ( roughly a degree every 4 mins and a sign every two hours) Uranus will obviously fall on all four angles during a 24 hour period. Is there a particular reason you have selected April 19th for the eruption time?

Its more common to try to link techniques like transits to a fixed chart prior to an event. For example, the Aries Ingress chart, or a national chart.

For example below is a Biwheel chart. The inner chart is the most popular national chart for Iceland (1944). The outer wheel is for the transits at the time of your prediction time for the eruption of Katla.

Incidentally, if you or any other members need help posting a chart drop me a PM message and I will put it up.

All the best,

I have to oppose and question the accademic reasoning and warning issued in eudaimonia's chart:
I've been trying to pin a time on possible Katla eruption. I was aiming for uranus conjunct IC. From what i can see, Katla is 19.05w and 63.63 so this chart is not entirely accurate, but I wouldn't want to be in Hvolsvollur on Monday 19 Apr at 11.30 pm ...

Eudaimonia will not have to be in Hvolvsvollur on Monday. Uranus is conjunct the IC once every day. In which way does this chart relate to anything? It is not as if this were a competition in trying to guess the birthday of a baby and the matter has to be approached prudently. It would appear that eudaimonia is calling for an immediate evacuation and that I believe is wrong.

katla eruption 1918

Dear Andrew,
Misnaming the chart was a big mistake. The chart I put up was for Holsvollur 1918, 12 Oct, (the last Katla eruption) with transits. I was not looking at the 1944 Iceland chart.

If you put up this chart for noon, you can see Pluto is part of a grand square with Moon and Venus, and Chiron exact at the Aries point. The noon time was apparently when eyewitnesses observed the glacial outburst.

I do understand traditional astrologers don't usually work with outer planets, but this chart doesn't look particularly dangerous without it - Saturn close to regulus maybe, with the noon time giving Scorpio 21 asc?

Pluto in the 1918 chart is at 6 Cancer, with Moon opposing at 9 Cap, and Venus 7 Lib.

By transit Moon will conjunct the 1918 Pluto tonight and oppose itself. Of course it will do this every month.

But what sets this clock time/ day/month/year apart is the Sun making an exact YOD with Chiron and Saturn all at 29 degrees with with Saturn at the apex opposed by Uranus where the 1918 Chiron lies.

So the Sun and Moon are potential triggers at this time if you work with outer planets. Mars is also 1 deg from 1918 Neptune which exactly inconjuncts the natal Moon.

I had not thought of raising an alarm to Hvolsvollur, rather raising for the attention of more experienced astrologers than I.

Ok. I would never have guessed so thanks for clarifying! Its just you never mentioned this was your base chart. I will put it up. What time?

Transits? There was just a basic chart from you. Are you asking for a biwheel with transits for 11.30pm tonight surrounding the 1918 chart? No problem if that is what you want.

Iceland's Television RUV gave everyone a shock this afternoon at 16.30 GMT when they warned that the volcano Hekla was about to erupt. Hekla is Iceland's largest volcano, 63N59 19W42, and the television team thought they had observed smoke rising from volcano.

However, it showed that there was something wrong with RUV's web-camera located 12 km from the volcano. News of the eruption was distributed world wide, but was later proven to be false.

Separate from Ingresses and Eclipses, believe that Mars and its recent retrograde cycle is relevant here. Mars went retro on Dec 20 when the rumbling started; went direct on Mar 11 and first eruption shortly thereafter. On May 17 Mars will occupy the degree of its retro station on Dec 20. Would conclude on this simple cycle that the eruption will continue until May 17.

What also makes Mars a relevant significator in this case, besides its nature, is the mundane choreography assignment of Leo to the EU. Ptolemy assigned Leo to Gaul which is modern day France and Belgium. Belgium is home to the EU capital. Have found that Leo works quite well for the EU in empirical work. Both Mars stations were in Leo (as is its current position).

Iceland is one of the few western European states not in the EU. :???: I presume you are referring to the impact of the second eruption on neighbouring EU countries?

Thanks Mark, a chart would be great.
12 Oct 1918 Hvolvollur Noon time for the eruption event. If possible with transits for 11.30 tonight.
I find biwheels bit stressful to look at, and prefer 33% reduction in orbs.

I know the noon time sounds artificial but I read around, and 'around noon' was the time eyewitnesses observed the glacial outburst. Will try to find the exact reference - didn't keep a brilliant site trail alas - but there were named expert eyewitnesses in some of the subsequent geological research from that time, so I may be able to get more reliable info if I keep looking.

Apparently most eruptions from this volcano have been later in the year. The earliest one so far has been 8 May 1860. Perhaps someone could work out which SAROS series that one is connected to?

Will also check for the Mars contact with Neptune.

Finally, I am putting this up as a Biwheel. Sorry eudaimonia but there are other members here who do find them helpful. Gosh if you find Biwheels stressful what must triwheels do to you. :D

katla eruption 1918

Hi Mark,
Great to see the charts. No chiron?
Can I dare ask you to post a triwheel?(daresay my reading glasses will melt with the heat of my straining eyes)

There is lots to compare with the 1613 eclipse posted earlier.

I have actually found a reliable eyewitness reference from The Annals of Glaciology 1996 for a time of 1pm for the glacial outburst of Katla 12 Oct 1918 so this time should be used. (see link)

This gives an ASC/DSC of 29.33 Scorpio Taurus. ie almost conjunct 1613 eclipse at 28 Taurus.

The Sun - MC of 1918 Volsvollur eruption with 1pm time is now 18 and 16 Libra. (cf ASC of 1613 at 20 Libra). Wide, perhaps.

The libran Venus (10H)and Sag Mars (1H) sextile of Volsvollur 1918, both at 7 degrees are inconjunct 1613 Pluto at 5 Taurus. 2 deg orb - again wide?

http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cac ... czkNneCRug

Please could you include chiron?[/ which is now in the 3H with the adjusted time, (sign ruler Mars is also chart ruler and in 1H. 3H ruler Jupiter is in 8H with Pluto, both disposited by Moon).

Both Leo and Aquarius (2/8H) are now 'hidden'.

Not sure what order to put the charts -maybe...
1613 eclipse centre
So Volsvollur middle, (I missed out the 's' earlier)
Current transits for 11.30pm ( if only for academic reasons...)

I do hope this isn't wasting your time.
