From the BBC News website.
In a news conference Chief Constable Craig Mackey said the murders of 12 people by Bird were the "tragic and complex" incident had had dealt with in 25 years as a police officer. .........

Mr Mackey said Bird's activities could be divided into three phases with the first being the killings in the early hours of Wednesday of Bird's twin brother and the family's solicitor Kevin Commons.

Their bodies were not found until about 1100 BST, he said.

The second phase started at 1030 BST and lasted about an hour, covering the shootings in the Whitehaven area.

The third phase lasted from about 1135 BST until 1230 BST when Bird used back roads to go to the "isolated" Eskdale area where he eventually took his own life.
It appears the Police still have no idea when the first shootings occured beyond 'the early hours' of Wednesday.

Gunshots were heard at 10.20 BST when the family solicitor was killed. However the first killing of his twin brother happened much earlier on and without a precise time ( 'early dawn' is mentioned), all that can be said for certain is that it was prior to 5.30 BST when Derrick Birds car was coming back from his twins farm and to park outside the solicitors house.

Did we ever find out Derrick Bird's TOB, Mark?
I haven't seen it anywhere in the public domain. Although as a twin the time of birth should have been recorded. It would be especially interesting to compare with his brother's chart. An interesting issue of freewill and determinism. I suppose we need someone to do the work and seek out the birth certificate. :)
