Detriment and Fall Lords

1
Hello,

I listened to Maria Mateus lecture on her version of Profection and she uses domicile and exaltation lords (no problem there) but she also uses detriment and fall lords!

She uses all 4 lords (domicile, exalted, detriment and fall) of the profected sign of the ascendant (and she profected one sign per year). So, when the profected sign of the ascendant reaches say, Aries, she would use Mars, Sun, Venus and Saturn as Lords. She says that while Sun may want to exalt the native, Saturn would want to make him fall. So, take the house that Sun rules as the area of life that native will be "exalted" and houses that Saturn rules as the areas of life that will pull the native down (for that year as profection governs one year period).

Is this traditional? If it is, which text should I refer to? If it is not, do you think this method has merits?

Hi, junaid (and steven)!

I don't think i have ever heard of this approach but I was wondering - what does she suggest in cases when the Lord of the detriment ( :???: ) is powerful and the lord of the dignity powerful? Let us assume that someone's profectional ascendant fall into Aries (the fall of Saturn) this year; her method would label houses ruled by saturn negative. But, the ruler of this debility (I really don't like this construction :D ) is exalted at the moment - would that mean that the dangers and negativities described by Saturn win and that the native is most likely to have a lousy year?

I disagree with this, though we probably have to go into what a "living sentient being" is. Do agree with you on rejecting the Frawley take on the essential dignities, totally his own creation.

I might be wrong but I think Junaid that you might be referring to the Youtube video here?

It's from the Blast conference 2007 and the web page for that conference gives an email address for Maria. Have you checked with her, maybe she'd be willing to discuss your first two questions with you?

Maria Mateus also has a listing at the International College of Astrology website here, so I presume she'd be wouldn't mind being contacted about her lecture. It says that she lectures on the history side so presumably she can help you out with traditional text references for her lecture.
