House for mattress 1 by The alchemist Hi all, I am out on the look for a good bed mattress and today I found one that seems to be what I'm looking for. So I cast a chart. The trouble is I'm not sure which house to use. Most people use the 8th for purchases of this kind. Any other ideas? Which house rules furniture and sleep? :-) Thanks. Quote Thu Sep 23, 2010 7:23 pm
by astroswift Interesting irony here--the title for your post seems to suggest that you are looking to buy a house that you can put the mattress in, hehehe. Seriously, if you have not yet bought the mattress, your question should be a matter for the 2nd-8th House axis. You want to know whether you will be getting at least equal value from the purchase, or whether you are going to regret it later. I'd look to see whether the rulers of the 2nd and 8th House are getting along well together, and whether they make good aspects with the Moon(for comfort) and Venus(for value and durability), and then again the ruler of the 4th House. For a specific house, I agree I would look at the 8th, as the mattress is something that you do not have(as opposed to 2nd for things that you do have)--and you are prospecting to acquire it for yourself. Would it be harmonious for me to make this mattress my own?? Let us know how this works. Astro Swift Quote Thu Sep 23, 2010 7:57 pm
by The alchemist Hi Astroswift, thank you for your help. Unfortunately, the lady of the 8th is Venus in her detriment. Saturn is right on the cusp of the 8th (I was looking for a very firm mattress). :-) Quote Thu Sep 23, 2010 8:58 pm

by The alchemist The Moon is in Aries opposing the Sun and Saturn. Maybe next time, I'll find something better (it's really difficult to find a good firm mattress nowadays). :-) Quote Fri Sep 24, 2010 1:33 pm
by Deb I'm not sure that what is being done here is best defined as horary. Maybe this is simply putting electional astrology to work. There are some basic electional rules for making good purchases, and they usually involve strengthening the Moon, the 2nd house, and getting benefic indications on the angles. (Or just avoid making expensive purchases when your birth chart is beset with malefic transits, etc). Quote Fri Sep 24, 2010 1:50 pm
by The alchemist I am not electing a time to make a purchase. My problem is that I cannot find a good, firm mattress. Most mattresses on the market are too soft for me (in a while I'll start sleeping on the floor). And because in the past I made some unfortunate purchases, where I paid lots and lots of money for two mattresses that within a couple of months turned out to be defective (due to a problem with the bed as well), I cannot afford to make the same mistake again. That's why I cast the horary. Quote Fri Sep 24, 2010 4:36 pm
by astroswift Though it is probably against principle, I will attempt to judge your chart without actually seeing it(if others here will forgive--I am an eager beaver when it comes to horary). Correct me if any of the placements are incorrect(for example I really don't know when you made the chart, and I don't know the Moon's position in Aries, if indeed it was there). I use Whole Signs Equal Houses. By the data you've given, Pisces rises in your chart, and both Neptune and Jupiter are in dignity, the former by house(12th), the latter by sign(Pisces)--Jupiter also rules the 4th in Sagittarius. Moon is in 2nd(exaltation) in Aries, so you are looking out for your comfort. Pisces with Neptune in the 12th, and Mercury in Virgo, you did show concern about repeating errors. Venus rules the thing you are seeking to purchase, as you said. Venus also rules Saturn by term and sign, Saturn being in his own exaltation. With Mars ruling your 2nd and apparently pursuing Venus, and Venus being in Mars' sign and face, and in the 9th, you seem fairly certain that you want to buy this mattress. Venus is even in your own term and house(9th). Fairly, because I can't deny Pluto's hand in this--and Pluto, in 11, in Capricorn, is squared on both sides, by no less than the Sun and Pluto's own ruler Saturn, and your own ruler plus Uranus on the other. Pluto also falls in the 11th. I think that you're going to be disappointed, in the long run, because the mattress will seem at first what you want, with Venus being in Jupiter's house and term, and Jupiter in Venus's exaltation Pisces, but shortly after it can deteriorate, given Venus's detriment in Scorpio. With Saturn and Sun conjunct 8th in Libra, you need to watch out making the purchase out of honor and loyalty to the seller(you may have made a tentative promise to purchase it). Forgive me if I am completely and utterly wrong. Astro Swift Quote Fri Sep 24, 2010 5:37 pm
by The alchemist Hi astroswift, thank you very much for your help. I think you' re right as far as your judgement is concerned, but since we're breaking the rules, I don't want to pursue this any further. I only started this thread because I wasn't sure which significator to use. In "Should I buy this item" horaries, some people use the 2nd, while others use the 8th, so that's what got me confused in the first place. Many thanks again. Quote Fri Sep 24, 2010 6:14 pm
by astroswift Sorry I got a little carried away. From this point on I will be content with waiting for the next chart challenge. But definitely the 8th is the house you want to look at regarding what you don't have as opposed to what you do have(2nd). You are using what you do have(money) to purchase something that you don't have(8th). I acknowledge that one of the things that you don't have is comfort, so you want to see if there is a positive connection between 8th ruler, the Moon, 2nd and 4th. If there is a house to assign to furniture, particularly beds, I would put it in 4th. A place where we can be safe to sleep--which is what homes are for in the first place. Merry meet.
