Dear All:

Any of you know if Astrodatabank runs under Windows XP 64 bits? I think it didn?t but I want to be reassured.

I know that. But I have the software and I use it a lot. They discontinued because Vista was not able to run the program and it would be so expensive to adjust it to Vista, that the owners gave up and sold or give the data to astrodients. I still want to know if someone is running Astrodatabank in window xp 64 bits. It runs in 32 bits, but I was thinking in improving the ram memory because I work with images. Windows xp 32 bits does not support more than 2 giga. My technitian suggested to install the 64 bits windows xp, but I?m afraid that it will not run Astrodatabank software.

I heard that Astrodatabank went bankrupt along with Astrology Software Shop. Several properties were sold off in summer of 2008 and one of these was Astrodatabank to Astrodienst.

I can't believe that it would be that difficult to convert Astrodatabank software to be compatible with Vista+ security rules. It is a very simple program. It only took me a couple of days to set the alternative directories away from Vista secure zones in Delphic Oracle / Timaeus for my chart databases to work with Vista / Windows 7. I have Astrodatabank myself but haven't found much use for it, but it did have a useful launch tool to redirect the data to show in other astrological software. It would not be that difficult to rewrite the database.

If astro.com has the data online then using ShellExecuteEx() from the windows API would work for getting it to launch into other software, but I think that they bought the database so that you would have to visit astro.com to get the data which would boost their traffic and possibly advertising revenue if they have taken that approach to funding their site which I am not sure of (that is a typical strategy that many SEO's use to boost rankings).

I doubt that it would hurt to try to run it on your system just to find out if it would work (back up your system first and set up system restore just in case). I have a practice of never changing the users OS to run my software, but I can't say whether Astrodatabank followed that same rule.

You are really gifted in informatics so maybe you?re right.
Anyway the historic version is that they gave up because of Vista.

I subscribed in a forum of astrodatabank users, and now I know it do not run in Windows XP 64 bits. There are people there running it in Windows 7, but with a big effort.

I ask myself why astrodient did not adapted the software to sell, since there are really many people wanting to buy it untill now. Just browse the internet and you will see people buying used disks desesperatly.

I don?t trust many features in ADB and I don?t use it anymore to do statistics. They waste a big time calculating asteroids and minor aspects and do not give option to calculate the LOT: this is terrible.

But I like to be able to have the alcholics list, or depressives, painters and musicians, etc. I like to study their charts, even if ADB gives wrong positions when I ask for exemple for some planet in an angle. I chose the valid examples.
