Is eye surgery needed? 1 by elumen Greetings astrologers; A friend has asked me if surgery is necessary and beneficial for her teenage son. He was born with an eye defect, so one of his eyes has almost no vision (right eye) and the other one had normal vision until recently. Now the left (good) eye started to lose vision and the doctors recommend surgery. My friend is concerned especially because this eye is the primary eye her son can see with. As far as I understood the deterioration of vision is not very strong but somewhat concerning. The chart was cast in the hour of Venus which does not agree with Asc or its ruler, Saturn. I still proceed to judge the question b/c it is obviously radical for my friend. My friend is L1, Saturn in H9, in exaltation, her son is Mercury in Sag, L5 placed in H12, son's 8H. I find this placement repeatedly in the questions about surgery. I am sure it signifies that the son is worried and stressed out. Mercury is in terms of malefic and in its fall, which shows certain weakening of his vital energy. I take this a sign that he is in danger and surgery maybe necessary because of the 8H association. The Moon co-signification of the question is in the late degrees of Aquarius peregrine, applying to a conj with Neptune (dissolution) and changing signs soon. The moon also rules the left eye in man, and given its application to Neptune, it seems to show the dissolution of his vision is going to continue. The moon is not making any applying aspect except with the Venus, L12 of the sun (L4 radical), from that it seems that not much activity is going to take place now, perhaps the matter is already solved, although it did not seem this way from my friend inquiry. I think that the Moon application to L12 is not favorable sign for surgery, although it will be received by Venus. Mercury, the son is applying to Jupiter, L7 by a square, L7 are his doctors, seems that they are able to help somewhat, but with much struggle and in this case possibly recovery time. Jupiter is strong in the 10H, which I see as the sign that surgery will ultimately be beneficial for him, but perhaps will be postponed (need to be postponed). L10 (cure, surgery) is Saturn in Libra, it is dignified, but has no aspect with Mercury, but Mercury is in terms of Saturn, which indicate again that surgery maybe bring beneficial results. My sense that it is will be needed and helpful, but perhaps should be postponed. What do you think about son's significator in 8h in detriment -- a sign that he is too weak for having surgery now or a sign that he is in vulnerable position and surgery is necessary? What do you think of the timing: do you agree with my interpretation that it should be postponed? Quote Sun Jan 09, 2011 2:49 am
by Olivia It worries me a bit, too. The eyes are represented by the lights, so I'd expect to see some aspect from Mars - Mars is the knife, and Mars is dignified, but combust - I think it may be indicative of the doctors not yet being able to 'see' quite what's wrong. I'm also a bit worried that Mars is going to sextile Jupiter from Jupiter's detriment. I agree that Venus on turned 7 is a good sign, but for this moment - I'd postpone. Did you run up the parts of sickness and parts of surgery here? Those might show something as well. Quote Sun Jan 09, 2011 3:24 am
by handn Hello I'm not experienced with illness/surgery horaries, but about Mars.... I understand it ruling surgery and knives, which in this case are being proposed as the cure or at least to stop the worsening, but Mars is ruling not just the turned 11th (which would presumably be beneficial? Or might it just signify nothing but the hope?) but the turned 6th.... 6th being illness not cure. I'm interested in Venus and Mercury.... both are at greatest elongation from the sun.... 8th and 9th January respectively. Regards H. Quote Sun Jan 09, 2011 6:20 am
by cor scorpii Hello, all Elumen:The chart was cast in the hour of Venus which does not agree with Asc or its ruler, Just a quick note on radicality - I think there's nothing to worry about, since Venus is a day time triplicity ruler of the earth signs Interesting horary, hope to return to it later when I find more time. Which is perhaps reaffirmed by the contact between Venus and Saturn (L1 in the domicile of Venus). I find it difficult to come to a conclusion in this chart because of contradictory indications. The Moon applying to the conjunction of the 2nd House of the radical figure possibly shows the impending expenditure for the querent. Venus rules the 12th House of the son?s turned chart and she is placed right on the entrance of his turned 7th House ? an indication perhaps of the impending confinement for medical purposes. Mars rules the son?s 6th House and it is not a good thing that he should be exalted whereas the son?s own significator is so weakly placed. Yet fortunately for the son, Mars will be burned up by the Sun who, by just having risen, is strong. It is also fortunate for the son that Mars is not placed in his turned 8th but cadent in his turned 9th. But Mars is about to become oriental. Jupiter more or less shares with Saturn the status of Almuten of the figure. It is fortunate for the son that Jupiter rules as well his 10th as his 7th Houses (medicine, treatment, doctors). In the son?s turned chart, both Venus and Jupiter are angular, Jupiter being the strongest in the 10th. In my opinion, neither the querent nor the son is in the circumstances where they could or should take decisions about whether the surgery is needed or whether it should be postponed. I would have confidently said that this figure suggests it is the doctors who ought to be taking the decisions and the querent as well as the son should listen to them and go along with the medical judgment. But I can?t say that because both Jupiter and Venus also rule the so-called evil Houses ? Jupiter rules the son?s 8th and the mother?s 12th; Venus rules the son?s 12th and the mother?s 4th. It?s also noteworthy, I think, that for the son, Mercury rules as well his ascendant as his 4th House. For the mother, the lord of her 8th House is conjunct her Ascendant. For the son, the lord of his Ascendant is in his 8th House. The chief aspects are: The Moon separates from Mercury and applies to the square of Venus. Mercury separates from a sextile of Saturn and then applies to a received square of Jupiter. Venus is in opposition to the son?s ascendant. Jupiter has a sextile of the son?s ascendant. The Sun is applying to a conjunction of Mars. Considering all this, I would say the querent and her son should perhaps wait a little and, more importantly, take a second medical opinion. Despite clear signs of problems in this figure, I don?t think there is anything of terrible urgency that threatens. Regards, Mansoor Quote Sun Jan 09, 2011 1:34 pm
by elumen Thank you everyone for your responses! It really helps to hear other point of views. A small addition: the surgery is not necessary, it is recommended, and has a small risk of making the vision in the querent's son eye get even worse. Both of them are afraid that it may happen! But my friend, responded to me that she is going to take a few different opinions and no surgery is going to take place at least until summer. I advised her against it now, although told her that it looks like it will be necessary and beneficial at a later point. This is a complex chart, indeed. So I'm interested in other opinion's or continuing discussion on this one. We can take into account the dispositors of quesited so Mercury is desposited by excellent Jupiter, although Jupiter is with Uranus, still it is a favorable sign that the son should be OK. The moon is disposited by Saturn, also dignified, and ruling the querent, a well-weighted decision can be made. The Moon is not appling to any aspect except square with Venus, so she will get another opinon on the surgery in spring, but does not look like surgery is going to take place. And as Olivia pointed out, Mars (gen. significator) of surgery is combast, so it is better to wait until his condition reveals itself more. I did not use the parts in this chart, but I think i need to include it in my practice. Quote Mon Jan 10, 2011 7:00 am
